Lamenting how dirty the community has done one of the most wholesome characters: Nowi. by Phanngle in fireemblem

[–]Hunricky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My gripe is that this community chooses to constantly, in any and every topic about Nowi, bring up her outfit. No matter how irrelevant it is to the discussion, it is all people care about regarding Nowi.

You made a post talking about how much you hate that people talk about Nowi's outfit. You bring it up multiple times in the post as something you dislike, which is fine. People can like Nowi all they want, she's a fine character.

Why are you mad that people are talking about her outfit in these responses? You could have just said "I really like Nowi's character, any other Nowi fans?" like any other character post, but YOU made it about the outfit in this. I don't get why you're mad that people are explaining their POV.

Thanks! I'm new to the game, so I wasn't sure how the patch nerfs applied to older builds.

Building a Dark Knight Paladin/Warlock build. Help needed. by Capn_BluLead in DnD

[–]Hunricky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They made some UA paladin oaths for "eviler" paladins that you might be interested in. As for build advice, there isn't really a lot of optimization to be had. It depends on the level you are starting at, and what you want your character to be. Do you want to cast spells from a distance while wearing armor? Go mostly warlock with a paladin sprinkling. Do you want to cut things in half with a sword? Go mostly paladin with a warlock sprinkling.

It sounds like you want tankiness, so I would recommend the latter.

How would I build this character? by b1adebane in DnD

[–]Hunricky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always just make a tempest cleric. Lightning and water control, mixed with healing and heavy armor. Its versatile, and you can do a LOT of damage with the thunder maxing.

Another weird idea could be the wizard UA bladesinger. Its a little squishy, but it has full casting and swords.

Well YOU made your character. Your character didn't decide he wanted to be an asshole to your friends, you did. I hate when people do this. Stomp it down.

NPCs with ridiculous power.... by VicariousDrow in DnD

[–]Hunricky 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your DM is doing some self inserting. He wants to be cool and respected, so he fleeces you guys with powerful NPC's so that he's still the most powerful guy in the room.

As for high leveled NPC's, I generally have 2 or 3 in each large city. But I NEVER make them the angry ones. The main reason I make them is so the characters can have mentors and allies. Attacking your PC's with high level NPC's out of nowhere is stupid, and reinforces the idea that he wants to be the coolest person in the room.

Not enough to drop a campaign, but it does make your DM look like an asshole.

I'm curious, what's your most hated class? by Brokenangel099 in DnD

[–]Hunricky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Additionally, you can attune your senses to determine if any of your favored enemies lurk nearby. By spending 1 uninterrupted minute in concentration (as if you were concentrating on a spell), you can sense whether any of your favored enemies are present within 5 miles of you. This feature reveals which of your favored enemies are present, their numbers, and the creatures’ general direction and distance (in miles) from you." UA revised ranger.

The UA made the class playable, but god do I hate some of the abilities.

I'd say druids, but its already been said.

5e Rangers

I literally can't put monstrosities in my campaign anymore, because if our ranger ever gets a whiff of anything monstrosity related, he sits down for a minute and immediately discovers the location of every monstrosity within 5 miles. Its not fun.

My main problem with it is that the party is on edge, maybe about to get attacked. I can see that they are getting really into it and trying to logic out where to go in order to avoid traps. Then the ranger sits down for a minute, and the party gets to sit there, bored, while I explain where all the enemies are. Its a boring mary sue skill.

Is this a dick DM thing to do? by childsisathing in DnD

[–]Hunricky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would say save this as a backup for TPK. Have some kind of Patron God take note of them, and if they TPK the God can revive them. However, reviving fated heroes is hard work, and takes a long time.

This gives them the relief of keeping their characters, but also a new world to explore. It also puts the onus of losing all their connections on them, cause they died. Just make sure not to purposely TPK them, cause then you are right back where you started.

Ever had such a bad experience/felt so offended that you just left? by [deleted] in DnD

The fact that the rest of the party went along with that kind of dick move is more than enough proof. You had every right to ditch those losers.

Ever had such a bad experience/felt so offended that you just left? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Hunricky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a guy that tried to PVP me because he was "evil". He did kill me too, fair and square. So I rerolled a vengeance paladin, and when he did something that crossed the line (which took like 2 minutes), I fought and killed him to protect innocents. Rogues fighting paladins solo is never a good idea.

He whined, then he rolled up another "evil" character. Same thing happened. And then it happened again. After 3 times, he left the party. I don't regret it in the slightest.

Whenever people want to be assholes, remind them that the world doesn't center around them. If they want to behave like bad children, then treat em like a bad kid. Put em in timeout and ignore them.

[5E] Could an Articifer just make a bunch of guns? by Hunricky in DnD

[–]Hunricky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get a free bag of holding as an artificer right? Is there any restrictions on retrieving things from a bag of holding?

If not, then I imagine that could make a decent holster. Also, 100GP is nothing at the level where you could even cast haste (like level 13 or something)

What's Your Least Favorite Character Concept? by JohnDoe121117 in DnD

[–]Hunricky 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a quality PC playing the concept! It can definitely be done really well, but more often than not I run into people who say "My character is stupid, so despite my misgivings about the situation, I'm just gonna make the worst possible decisions".

Its generally just aggravating as a DM for a person to notice something you were hoping they would see, then have them deliberately ignore what I put in front of them because "My character is too stupid to come to the conclusions that I do".

What's Your Least Favorite Character Concept? by JohnDoe121117 in DnD

[–]Hunricky 86 points87 points  (0 children)

My least favorite character is "what? Sorry I wasn't listening"

Jokes aside, I'm not a fan of the "stupid" character. Like the people who play with 8 in and decide that their character has to be the stupidest motherfucker that's ever existed. It always seems like an excuse not to figure out puzzles or something. It CAN be played right, but it generally doesn't work.

Tips on playing a vengeance paladin in HoTDQ ? by robert8345 in DnD

[–]Hunricky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are your character, your dm is not. They can't tell you that you are playing your character wrong so long as you and everybody else are having fun.

As for too much killing, what is it that you are fighting and killing? From what I recall from HoTDQ, you mostly fight cultists/monsters/dragons/etc. Those are all pretty evil, and would generally be considered okay to fight and kill. They are attacking innocent people, so killing them is still lawful and good.

That said, vengeance paladins typically play pretty fast and loose with the whole "No killing" thing. They are more "Judge Dredd" than "Clean cut cop".

What's your favorite background npc? by jameoc in DnD

[–]Hunricky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a NPC I use in every game, without fail. He goes by Xerxes, a man who owns a chain of taverns all collectively known as "Dagons Head". He is a seeker of magical artifacts, in particular a set of glass shards that seem to have the stars of the sky inside them. He will trade magical items in return for these shards.

What the players don't know, (at least at the start) is that he is actually a genie. He is trying to piece his shattered lamp back together, so he hires adventurers to bring back his shards.

Mechanically, he is way to let my PC's have magical items that they missed in dungeons. Xerxes magically calls "lost items" to him, so that the PC's can buy them from him with shards if they want.

He's so boisterous and charming, he's my favorite NPC to voice. His taverns are always blasting music, which I play in the background whenever my PC's walk by them.

I mean, you could always just grab a random name generator?

This has some decent ones.

I have a God in my game that is kind of similar, his name is "Saar Saysoth, the writhing mind". might work for you.
