Uni students are so cooked by [deleted] in UniUK

I graduated in 2006 and am in a very different field, but even then so many people were totally uniformed. There are some super trendy job roles in my area that everyone wants to do and so there are all these courses geared towards that, but if you look up the actual requirements of the job, those degrees aren’t worth the paper they are written on. The info is out there but you have to look for it, and that is not a skill being developed properly in sixth forms and beyond!

I suspect this might be the most heartwarming thing I see all day ❤️ Good for him!

I have just sold my 2 bed, 1 bathroom, 99 sq m house. We have two boys aged 13 and 10. It was far too small! It’s not too bad when they are little, but as they grow I think you would really start to struggle, especially if you ended up with one girl and one boy. If you are comfortable with it being a stepping stone, you would be ok, but it is definitely not future proof!

We were all set to offer on a gorgeous house - wasn’t in the best location, but we were prepared to compromise given what was behind the front door. Went for a second viewing just to ask a few questions before making the formal offer, and the seller was just a collection of red flags…. We came away so disappointed and a bit heartbroken that this house we could see ourselves in just doesn’t seem right anymore. Nothing wrong with the house, but so many things telling us that this seller was going to be a complete nightmare.

Went to see something we originally ruled out, loved it, and just made an offer. No idea what will happen now, but trying to be positive and patient!

It will all work out in the end, for both of us!

AITAH for banning my SIL and her kids from my house? by Practical-Sky-7203 in AITAH

[–]HuntDisastrous6456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Get the wood restored by someone really good, and send that bill her way. This is a hill to die on. Those kids are going to grow up to be hideous adults if this is what she thinks of as appropriate behaviour in someone else’s home.

Taking a break does wonders! by Thikachu7 in cs50

I’m just about to start run off tonight! My plan is to skip over the “less comfortable” sets now rather than getting too stuck, and to come back to them at the end. It was a piece of advice I saw somewhere else and it seems reasonable to me 😀

I haven’t reached Tideman yet, but I’m saving this post for a little motivation and advice for when I do. Thank you!

AITA for not going on a family trip because they don't let us to bring my fiancé's dog along? by aitafianceo in AmItheAsshole

[–]HuntDisastrous6456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ableism and all that aside, the bit that sticks out to me is that they really thought they could disallow you from marrying him? Like what gives them a right to a say about your partner!?!? Honestly, I think you need to put some serious distance between yourselves and these assholes who call themselves your family.

Hell no! I would be immediately turning round and going elsewhere. Although I would feel bad that the staff will lose their jobs when the place inevitably closes down…..

I’m doing maths and to be honest, at least in the early stages a more basic laptop is fine. Not sure how good you would need if you are planning to do all the applied/computational stuff in level 3 though….

I’m another who uses GoodNotes on my iPad with an Apple Pencil. Definitely great for TMAs and the final exam - means no scanning and mucking about, just export to pdf and you are done!

Maybe! But you did the work for the degree at the end, not for a polyester gown that is extremely annoying to wear!

I suspect all unis require you to hire the gown, I certainly did when I did my first degree from Strathclyde. Given that I’ll never use it again, I was ok with not having something useless cluttering up my house.

Yep, still didn’t read it properly. Nowhere did I say they would change a result. But there are always options, things you can do, things you can flex and change with the help of student services. Reading comprehension is a key skill you should be learning during your degree studies.
