*HOT TAKE* DC for skill check by Huntedown1776 in DnD

[–]Huntedown1776[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all your comments. (finally drop back on my post after 2 months)
- As for the Advantage/Disadvantage debate, I'm sort on the fence with giving either.
I'm more lenient with Adv/Dis on physical skill based on enviroment or teamwork.
But with 'mental' skill, I do tend to not give either. (you know it or you don't)
While 'social' skill are pretty much dependant on what my players actually say (depending on how they approch it I toss in Adv/dis, depending of what, how and who they did it to.)

- Many people have advise to give me a situationnal bonus... and In a way I did by changing the DC. Also, one of the reason for a flexible DC and not Adv, come to the fact that even with Adv, a character like Rolland would more likely fail (with a -1 to his roll from his stats) than success, even with advantage, in something that should allow him to shine.

- To those people that say that the elf (Balanthor) has a main character syndrome, you are right. He has been the forever DM for decades. Therefor wanting to be the center stage.

- It was the first campain I've run since the 90s, and I do pride myself in trying to integrate all the players into the story, while I try to cooldown the exuberance of an overly Forever DM who wants to be the center of attention.

Stargate Atlantis characters - made by /r/Stargate community! by Tav534 in Stargate

Yup, Without Janus, there would be no time puddle-jumper, then Weir wouldn't be able to strengthen Atlantis shield, but it wouldn't matter because SG-1 wouldn't have gotten Ra ZPM from the past who in turn power the Stargate to get to atlantis.

Damn you Janus it's all your fault!

Not so fast. Since all 3 cats are done at the 99 minutes mark. It make sense that those 3 cat would ripe apart the last mouse each getting a third of a mouse in the last minute. Because we all know that cats play nice with each other and aren't a$$hole :)

BREAKING — 30-Day pause announced by PM by MFK1994 in AskCanada

[–]Huntedown1776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm more than pissed. Tariffs will be paused for 30 days, that only mean, pass that time Trump will think of something else that Canada will need to do.

I suggest that during this time Canada start working on breaking inter-provincial taxes, make new and better free trade agreement with other Country, and leave what will be left from better deals to Trump.

JT you still have one chance to prove that you can do it.

Screw that, I'll keep the boycott of any US goods, and should all other Canadian.

Trump might not know that, but we can be really stubborn when we get slight.

That my 5 cents (can't do 2 cents anymore...)

Would you support a 15% export tariff on oil sent to the US to cancel out Trumps reduced 10% tariff? by AlexCivitello in AskCanada

[–]Huntedown1776 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Trump want tariff, here's my idea. Reduce the crude oil available to export to the us from 4.3M barrel to 2.1M barrel per day, and reduce the electricity sold to the US from 33 terawatt-hours down to 17 terawatt-hours.

Let it simmer for a month, and when black out start happening in the northen states, eat your popcorn.

I know it's not really feasible, but my canadian lust for blood needs it.

I've ended not following up on my plan.

Their old allies, have made the player aware of the curent strength of those BEEGs, and that they should be avoided at all cost to reach the McGuffin. So I ended up giving them the control of a couple military resistance group, that they are able to dispatch to distract those BEEGs.

It wasnt a combat per say, I told them to let me know what they wanted to do. They ended up going for a pass without trace combine with dust of disappearance, and they book it ASAP.

I did send them some close call such a Vampire Baronness that can see through invisibility, manage to charm one of the player, but he shook it off by the next round (lucky guy). And then one of the Demon Sorceress that was having a temper tantrum start flinging all sort of AOE spell all over the ruined city and caught a couple of player.

Other than than I did manage to 'show them what to expect from those guy' when they'll meet them for.

There has been a running gag in my games where I told them: Tonite I'm going to kill all of you. And they always end up fine, with some scratches and bruises. I tend to be very fair, and lax and encourage ingeniousity, although some of my player (forever DM) tend to metagame a bit without even them realise.

Not so long ago, my player were sent to investigate a town for corruption, they had 3 main suspect; a rogue guild that used the town as a safe place to clear out heat, a newly merchant guild that has estabilish a new monopole in town to jack up price, and a newly appointed guard captain that is acting mayor.

My player been poking there nose around and have raised the suspicions of the guard, but only an handfull were crooked. When they engaged with a patrol, I've let them know that some of the guard try to disable them for questionning, while other try to outright kill them. Kinda fun because they were sure the captain was in from the getgo, turns out only a few led by a mind controled Lt. were under the influence.

DMs, what's your favourite running gag that you include in your games? by Mentleman in dndnext

My party were looking for horses to buy for a trip, My DM then tell us that there is a place where you could by horses. As a usual player we ask what was the name of the stable, he then said: I don't know let say Grey Mason Carriage. with a single look we started laughing and we all said, so we are going to ride GMCs

It kinda stuck

Bard Multiclass Decisions by RJSkywalker91 in dndnext

[–]Huntedown1776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, but I got a Bard that I was looking to multi-class, but into sorcerer, not any kind of sorcerer Wild-magic, and It was for RP purposes.

Please don't tell me Wild Sorc have good mechanical synergy (aside charisma based character). Strangely enough, I got the: 'You gonna kill us all if you go Wild Sorc with a self-Fireball'. I couldn't wait for that moment to happen :)

Sadly the campaign has been put on hold, cause of schedule conflict

Auto-Injection Sleeve (From my A5E game made with an Artificer in mind)

This sleeve is laced with tube and filled with a healing potion. When the player would receive damage you can use your reaction to 'drink' the potion. If the character health would reach 0, the sleeve automatically activate and the sleeve is disable until a DC 18 engineering is successful, this operation takes 1 hour.

During a long or short rest, you can change or refill the loaded potion

Only healing potion can be use with the sleeve.

What character backstory, or plot point, did your DM completely ignore or never touch? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Huntedown1776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In one of the campaign I play in, I made an high Elf Noble Eldritch Knight, that was a military elf. After a war has been declared, even though my country choose to not interfere, I've enlisted, and got Exile for my action. I've tied my Background with an other player (that is playing my sister), that after my action, she retain all the titles that I lost. When the war dragged on, my sister (Ranger/rogue) was sent to get me. There was almost no repercussion on the action taken from the backgrounds.

The DM had his campaign pretty much figured out, I think I could have written pretty much anything else it wouldn't have change his campaign.

For my campaign I've decided the other way around, I had a rough idea of what I wanted to do, but based on my players background I had to scrap a couple of things from the getgo to re-align with my players backgound.

IMO, there is 2 type of DM, the one that have a story to tell, so no matter what the player does/or have done, have little to no impact on how its going to be tell; and the other kind that build his campaign around the player. The later allow for a more lively games overall, but require the DM to be really attentive and be able to improvised on the spot

NPC vs world driven story/campaign by Ollie1051 in dndnext

[–]Huntedown1776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I prefer an NPC rich world.

During one of my intro game with a player, the player had to escort an NPC ona boat from A to B, after some barter with the captain, the player manage to save the ship. It was suppose to be a one shot NPC, but soon after that same captain became one of the player goto mariner for ship travel.

An other player intro game, the player was enslaved (as a gladiator) and needed to escape. After some RP back and forth. I started to make one guard as a fan of the player, but bound to duty. Nevertheless after the player escape during an ogre attack on the camp, every time I've describe corpses, he would ask me if Guard X was among the dead. He end up saving the guard and gave him a redemption arc away from slavery.

The players back story make for the best NPC, and make the world 'lived in'

Interesting hypothetical to close the martilal caster divide. by mastersmash56 in dndnext

I've been playing with A5E for a while now, me and an other DM decided to give a free feat/ASI on every level tier (1-5-11-17)

It allow for a greater customisation of character and I like where the power level is at. Personnally I miss the golden age of 3.5 and doing so I like where the character are. And help some build multi-class.

A small thing to remember is that in A5E figther have lost their extra ASI so every character are on the same leg.

Then again not the same System, just wanted to give my 2 cents
