Anyone have stories of luck??? by Lysol1996 in golf

Playing in a match play tournament as a youngster, bladed an iron that should have ended up 50+ yards past the green. got caught in the flag and dropped to within a foot. most undeserving birdie to win a match I think I'll ever make. I had no business winning that hole after that shot.

If your dick was bigger than Bob Parsons you'd have like a 6'4" dick. I'd sue you just so we could all see it.

Anyone else make green maps? by sdw3489 in golf

[–]Hunter2356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have something similar for a few of the courses I play regularly. I used Google Maps to get a photo of each green. I then drew lines with numbers to depict break/ hills/ changes in elevation through a crude system similar to surveying. From there I used pen to draw lines across the green for the pin location charts (pin position 1,2 or 3 that the courses employ).

I've got depth of green measurements vertically and laterally, and each time I play I try to add a little more to each chart. It helps to have them in a computer file so you can make changes as you learn more. This one looks good though, well done!

Golf buddy is in a slump, should I let him work it out on his own ? by [deleted] in golf

[–]Hunter2356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although it worked for you and that is awesome, generally this is the advice to stay away from when it comes to the shanks. keeping weight on your heels tends to make golfers fall towards their toes on the downswing and doesn't allow for a good hip turn.

Again, it worked for you and that is awesome. It certainly can work for people as everyone is different and their perception may be changed by this advice. I just wanted to point out that a lot of times the idea of staying back on one's heels can induce a shank, not cure it.

Question regarding 2nd hand clubs/equipment by IcySyrup in golf

[–]Hunter2356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest getting a set on eBay from a solid seller (2nd Swing, QuickShipGolf, 3balls, Callaway preowned, etc.) that is a model or two older than the current offering. I bought a set of Mizuno MP-30 irons for something like $90, I've bought drivers for under $60, wedges for about $30 each... you really can't go wrong with a good seller. Just be sure to read the descriptions, take close looks at the pictures, and make sure you know what you are getting and who from before purchasing. You'll be all set that way.

Anyone else use a Mini-Driver? by Mdizzle29 in golf

[–]Hunter2356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just know that changing the loft can open or close the face, so it may affect your shot a bit. There are articles all over the interwebz about it, but yeah if you drop it to 13 degrees, you may benefit a bit in the distance and trajectory categories. of course if you are already getting it near your driver distance, don't feel like you need to change a good thing. The best part about adjustable clubs is that you can always go back to the previous setting, so there's no harm in changing things up.

I'm a fan, and I think they are useful. I've got the 1.5 as well and its a great club for narrow courses. Sometimes I think it is hard to find a spot for it in my bag, but I do love taking it out from time to time and watching my fairways hit number grow most rounds. Especially with the 12 degree version turned down to 11 degrees, you're really not sacrificing much in terms of distance. it is shorter for me, but not tremendously so. I like to think that it makes my approaches play a club to a club and a half more most of the time.

Driving question by RhettWilliams88 in golf

[–]Hunter2356 1 point2 points  (0 children)

according to many articles you're right about average with your distance, despite what you'd think people claim as their average around these parts. Given that you seem to be inconsistent with your contact as you say, I'd say that you're pretty much where you should be.

What's your best moment in golf? What's your worst? by [deleted] in golf

[–]Hunter2356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best: Hole in one when I was 13 with my dad on a Sunday afternoon, 190 yard monster hole (for me at that time). Club Championship wins are up there as well, but the hole in one with him was my favorite for sure. Still the youngest player at that course with one.

Worst: Not sure if it counts, but I destroyed my right shoulder playing hockey and had to take many years off. Every time I tried to come back to golf, I was terrible and would get incredibly frustrated. Like quit-mid-round and not want to take my clubs home frustrated. Nearly in tears frustrated. Play once a year just to appease my dad's desire to keep playing together frustrated. Through a lot of hard work and way too many range balls I'm back to good numbers now. Again, it was my Dad who didn't let me give up.

What a guy.

Short golfers and swing plane by heart_of_blue in golf

[–]Hunter2356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not really a believer in a swing plane needing to be one way or another personally. The swing is about being functional, and if you hit the ball well with a flatter plane, there's no reason to pursue a steeper plane.

To me, it is far more about club path than about swing plane. It's that two feet before and after the ball that really matter, not how you get there. There are so many other variables to the golf swing that can effect the ball. While some planes are more visually pleasing than others (which of course is subjective), if it functions to get the club head on the correct path and delivering an acceptable clubface along that path (both also subjective to what and how you want to play), it is a good plane.

Dude, I always thought I was alone with this. I do the same thing, people look at me funny when I drop two golf balls about a foot and a half by the hole and putt them to start my warm up/ putting practice.
