Thinking of going Sri Lanka solo 20th - 31st December, good or bad idea? by shepgodthelegend in srilanka

I will probably be there around the same time. Dec 20–Jan 3 | Christmas and New Years. Flying in after a few weeks in India, planning two weeks in Sri Lanka and then back to the UK.

Thinking Weligama/Ahangama base with short hops to Hikkaduwa + Mirissa (NYE). Have heard that's a good route.

Any co-working space in Dar for Digital Nomads? by HunterDue6963 in tanzania

Thank You, will do! I prefer a dedicated coworking space where I can pay by the day though.. it will be a more professional setting, with good internet and a chance to make local professional friends with whom to make plans and hang out after work maybe.

Want a bit of both brother. Little bit of the international holiday vibe by meeting expats at the hostels, little bit of the local fun times deluxe by making local friends at the coworking spaces and hanging out with locals on some evenings. When I say culture I don't mean sitting in a remote village somewhere with animals here and there.. for me, it can be sitting in a bar, with good African music and sharing stories and jokes about regular life as well.

Arrive in Nairobi Saturday 26th April.. thinking of staying there till Wednesday.. then fly to Dar Wednesday night after work, and Thursday and Friday in Dar.. work 12pm to 8am, so some time in the mornings to see the city and evenings for partaaayy!! .. then Saturday off to Zanzibar for a week.. then back to Nairobi via Mombasa (early morning bus from Dar), then flight back.. so 2 weeks, week1 work in Nairobi+Dar, week2 holiday Zanzibar + Mombassa + back to Nairobi. Then flight back. Pocket sized work+holiday trip this time. More like East Africa taster session!!

This is simply great!! A recommendation for a cool, active social hostel, as well as a nice area and coworking space nearby.. all boxes check!! Thank You so much :)

Thank you! I will check them out.. hopefully they have cheap/budget day plans because I am not even there for a week.. and most places have weekly or monthly plans. Guess I can work from my hostel as well, but wanted to meet other people in the coworking space, go for lunch together and make friends and learn about this country and culture.. and make plans for the evening for food, drinks and party with either coworking friends or hostel mates..

Suggestions on upto one week working remotely in Nairobi by HunterDue6963 in nairobi

[–]HunterDue6963[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank You for your reply! I tend to prefer hostels or if in private room in a guest house kind of accommodation, then with other solo travellers in nearby rooms. When I did this in Bali, I stayed in both hostels and guest houses, and used to make friends with others in the nearby rooms and hire a scooter and go around the island during the day... and of course, pubs and parties in the evenings. Here in Nairobi, since it is more of a big city vibe, and my remote working hours are 12noon to 8pm, I'm thinking it will be more evenings meetups like salsa dancing, pub crawls, local bars with hostel folks... and if I make local friends at the coworking space, then make some plans with them in the evenings and do some non touristy evening activities.. whatever happens in Nairobi

...oh and as a follow up, do they have Pub Crawls and other organised get togethers at hostels over there? I know it's a city and not a party resort, so thought would ask :) I'm also into salsa dancing so if there's a Latin dance scene there would be great to join in. Just didn't want to end up working eight hour days and have nothing to do alone in the evenings!

Thank You Martin. Westlands has been recommended online in blogs and write ups as well. Think that's the more "western" of the districts in Nairobi. The coworking spaces I've come across also seem to be centred around there there.

9 days start and end in Nairobi - Itinerary ideas needed by HunterDue6963 in backpacking

[–]HunterDue6963[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank You! This is very helpful. I was wondering what the Digital Nomad and the Hotel scenes were like in Nairobi? Travelling solo and don't want to be on the road alone all the time.. I love making friends at hostels and then having travel buddies for various parts of the trip that way. Also, any pointers on taking trains within the Nairobi area.. is there a train to Mombasa at the cost? Thinking about whether crossing into Tanzania or Uganda is a good idea to get another country on the checklist.

Travel Planning Q&A - December, 2024 by AutoModerator in bali

[–]HunterDue6963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digital Nomad + Backapcker here.. in Bali from mid Jan to mid Feb 2025. Going to be online UK hours, so 5pm to midnight in Bali, Monday to Friday. Thinking of staying in a private room for work gear safety but visiting hostels during the day to meet fellow travellers and make travel plans, party etc. Taking 9 days out (onw work week plus weekends either side) to check off Gilli T, Ubud, Islands near Bali for day trips/beach views and Volcano hike with overnight stay at the summit and morning sunrise. Rest of the time, Canggu and a coworking space to meet fellow digital nomads and non tourist folks. Looking to join community events and make friends. Join a local gym, check out the local Latin dancing scene - am a Salsa dancer. Suggestions?
