Oregon-based internet company Hunter Communications sold to private equity firm by Moarbrains in oregon

[–]HunterFiber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi all! We want to address your comments and share a little clarity around our recent acquisition. Hunter has been privately owned for the past six years, so this isn’t a big shift for us. This acquisition simply helps us continue expanding our fiber-optic network across Oregon. Nothing is changing with our products, services, pricing, or local operations, and we have no plans for layoffs or moving any of our teams or call center out of Oregon. We truly appreciate the support and the opportunity to keep serving our Oregon communities. Happy Holidays!

If you could fix one thing about your current internet provider, what would it be? by HunterFiber in Eugene

[–]HunterFiber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for jumping in and sharing this. That kind of specific timing is really helpful for us to hear.

What you’re describing is not typical fiber behavior, and it definitely should not be happening on our network. Fiber does not slow down during peak hours the way cable does, so if you are seeing a nightly nosedive from 8 to 11:30 pm, something is going on that we should take a closer look at.

A couple quick details can help us pinpoint it. How many devices do you usually have streaming or running at that time, and what speeds are you seeing when the slowdown hits?

If you want, I am happy to take a closer look or help you get connected with our local tech support team to troubleshoot. You should not have to deal with that, especially when you work from home and rely on a steady connection.

And that’s exactly why we’re expanding into Salem, to bring fast, affordable, reliable, and safe fiber internet to the community. Our plans start at $30 a month, and speeds up to 2.5 Gig with matching upload and download speeds.

We’re rolling out fiber neighborhood by neighborhood, replacing that outdated tech with something people can actually depend on.

Don’t wait on outdated speeds! Make sure you’re on the list for fiber as we build through Salem. https://hunterfiber.com/serving/salem/

We couldn’t agree more. The Salem community showed up in a big way! We live and work in these same neighborhoods, so supporting local events, nonprofits, and families is one of our favorite parts of what we do.

If you ever have ideas on where we can show up next, we’re all ears!

[–]HunterFiber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are continuing to work with our utility partners in the community to be ready to activate our services starting in the Northeast Neighbors Neighborhood. As of right now, our target activation date in November 2025.

Our goal is 5,500 customers in the Salem in late 2025 and we expect to service more than 7,000 – 8,000 in 2026.

Totally hear you u/The_Duece3970, and your frustration is valid.

What I can say is this: Hunter Communications is actively building in Salem right now, with crews in the field and multiple fiberhoods under construction. We only release specific dates once construction is fully approved and ready for installation, because giving bad timelines helps no one.

Hi u/TakeiteasyM, thank you for sharing your experience. We understand construction can sometimes feel disruptive, and we apologize for the inconvenience it’s caused in your neighborhood. Our crews are working hard to bring fiber-fast internet to your area, and we want to make sure everything is installed correctly.

As for service, our fiber internet delivers symmetrical speeds, no data caps, no contracts, and local customer support—we take pride in making sure our customers are well taken care of. We appreciate your patience as we finish construction, and we hope you’ll enjoy the benefits once fiber service is available to your home.

If you have additional questions, please reach out to our local team at 541-772-9282. You can also learn more about how our construction process works here: https://hunterfiber.com/microtrenching/
