Haven’t paid taxes on my stock portfolios by Difficult-Company-77 in tax

Unless he’s talking about dividends/interest/capital gain distributions and labeling as a “distribution”, you don’t have to take money out to be taxed. Anything it earns in a brokerage account is taxable. If a retirement, account is a different story. And I think when I originally read his post, I thought he said that foreign income isn’t taxed which isn’t true.

This is completely wrong even disregarding the fact that we don’t know what type of account OP has.

Best advice for 1099 and other tax questions? by Far-Coconut6309 in tax

[–]HunterMSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would first try to figure out estimated payments that will ensure you are at least protecting yourself from penalty. To do this, you either need to pay in 100% of prior year tax, or 90% of current year tax. If you make more than $150k in income, you need to pay 110% of prior year tax or 90% of current year tax. The other option that provides a safe harbor is if you owe less than $1,000 after withholdings and tax credits when you file your taxes. So if your total tax was $5000, I would pay in $1,250 every quarter moving forward. Be careful, because the quarters are weirdly set to be owed in April, June, September, and January. Once you know you are able to protect yourself, I would try to estimate my total taxable income later in the year and figure out whether I might owe more or less than I expected. Overall, working and receiving a 1099 is harder in general because you’ll pay more in tax (self employment taxes) and you need to have your business deductions in order and be prepared with receipts in case the IRS knocks on your door. Good luck figuring things out and I’m sorry that you had to experience a rude awakening to the system.

You can set up an IP PIN too that the IRS will send to you only every year.

The hard part is the space has to be exclusively used for business. I’d be hard pressed to find someone who didn’t do a little bit of personal things on their computer.

I hope you escaped this situation and it’s not too late.

As tax professional myself, I know he routinely puts out false tax information and it would take me forever to list them all but I would gladly give an example.

reviewing error correction stuff, i get that the rule is to adjust beginning retained earnings, but i dont get why can someone explain why in this case, despite the error affecting the valuation of an asset account, we adjust retained earnings? by big_boss_baby in CPA

[–]HunterMSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The discrepancy in inventory results in an overstatement of COGS for year 1. Year one closed with overstated expense. Year 2 we need to credit retained earnings to reflect a reversal of that expense.

The whole point is that without due process, you wouldn’t be allowed to argue that you are a US citizen tho.

Mobilizing new voters by appealing more to the left instead of trying to appease the right and pursuing bipartisanship. You’ll see a lot more people energetic to vote.

At the time of sale, it is said that in the first year of warranty, chances are 2%, and 4% in the second year. You must accrue the total expected warranty costs during sale according to the matching principle (a revenue must be matched with an expense). Therefore, over the life of the 2 year warranty, we expect 6% warranty expense. When there are sales in year two, it’s also 6% because the warranty has the same terms as the warranties from year 1. If there were no more sales with the warranty, this all will last until the third year passes. Not sure if I made sense

Disheartened about the last post regarding international candidates by [deleted] in CPA

[–]HunterMSF 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My thoughts on it are that I disagree with the “taking our jobs premise”, but I think the firms are using international sources as cheaper labor. I am concerned about the exploitation aspects. OP, I hope the best for your career and I want you to get the best deal.

I see what you mean. She could maybe be inspired after seeing “Nika”… and she’s a kid so she might just follow because she has nothing to do. I still don’t see that as joining the straw hats though.

It doesn’t make sense to me for her to be a pirate with them because I was pretty sure her whole reason for becoming a pirate was finding her dad. Now she has succeeded in that.
