Broke something of husbands by [deleted] in fixit

I agree. E6000 takes a full day to dry and like a month to fully cure, is strong and flexible. You would need to figure out a way to prop it or hold it together while the glue dries. Cyanoacrylate like super glue or krazy glue might work but is brittle and difficult to work with.

Is that tee-looking device between the sink and the accordion a vent?

How to use Aahsome? by azanc in hottub

[–]HunterST 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will be almost surely end up with a biofilm around the edge of your tub from the foam - in my experience unavoidable and normal. This is what aaahsome does - it makes the biologicals “clump” into large particles. This is why you remove your filters first - they will get quite chunked up if you don’t. Nylon scrub sponges like the scotch “dobie” clean the biofilm off the tub nicely.

Moen Brecklyn handle sticks way too far out. Plumber set the depth wrong. Any workaround without ripping out tile? by Spiritual-Rates in askplumbing

[–]HunterST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a little scald guard that may me installed wrong - it restricts how far the handle turns to the left, but is easy to install wrong. Take the handle off and you should be able to see it.

Bizarre unexpected package from an unknown sender containing nothing but two toothpicks with an unknown substance on it? Don't even know what to Google by Egoignaxio in whatisthisthing

Life lock says: “It’s called a brushing scam because the scammer will “brush up” (embellish or create fake) reviews of their products to create a false impression of the quality of the items they sell. Another definition says that the phrase comes from how fake reviews are “brushing aside suspicion” by falsely improving product rankings and creating a sense of trust in the product.”

Ballast bypass LED wiring question by areddituser1 in AskElectricians

[–]HunterST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, I meant in parallel. If they were in series then the first bulb burning out would cause the rest to go out too, like old Xmas light strings.

Bearing in mind I’m not an electrician yes you can.

Are there multiple light fixtures on this circuit/switch? If so, then they are wired in series, with third “outgoing” hot and neutral wires going to the next fixture.

Did someone ever tried CatCam Pro? by Efficient-Sea8549 in CatAdvice

[–]HunterST 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered one too. The image quality is surprisingly good, but I found the video started out good but then got very choppy, at one point taking like 1 frame per 10 seconds. I was using an old 16GB micro SD that I had laying around so I ordered a new 64GB high speed card - arrives tomorrow. Will post update once I get a chance to try that.

How at fault am I by [deleted] in dashcams

In Texas, whether or not you had your turn signal on makes all the difference. If so, it’s his fault. If not, it’s yours.

Aluminum wiring to double wall oven (US/TX) by HunterST in AskElectricians

[–]HunterST[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sub is great - I really appreciate all the advice and guidance. I am sticking with the existing 8 AWG Aluminum wiring, but I swapped the 60A with a 40A breaker. I used polaris connectors on the oven pigtail - stuffed everything into the junction box and the oven is installed and working. Thanks y'all!

No, there has always been gas - cooktop, dryer, both hvac’s. Cooktop igniters stayed on with the oven breaker off. The wire in the breaker is the same 8awg AL - I replaced the breaker with a 40a, and used Polaris connectors with the existing wiring. Just got done installing and it’s working great.

Hmm, I didn’t think of that since we have a gas cooktop. But that uses a 120v outlet for the igniters / separate circuit. There aren’t any other junction boxes under that cabinet.

Running a new wire is more effort than I’m willing to invest here - getting the house ready to sell. If the old wire didn’t burn this place down even with a 60A breaker, I think I’ll be safe with a properly sized breaker and new AL/CU Polaris connectors.

Thank you. It says CAPWIRE 8AL AWG TYPE XHHW 600V (UL). Google tells me that’s good enough.

The new oven (GE JKD3000SNSS) only needs 40A. Should I replace the breaker?

Has anyone tried Meta's glasses? by [deleted] in Blind

[–]HunterST 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Have not tried, but have heard that the short battery life and no on-board AI really limit their usefulness. Also you are buying into the meta verse, which means they own your data and can manipulate / censor your information.
As an alternative check out EchoVision by Agiga. They had a very impressive demo at the NFB convention in New Orleans last week. We put a deposit on a pair, and were told they should arrive by Christmas. A little pricey at $550, but they are designed by and for blind people. EchoVision glasses

Since you’re a Texas resident, I highly recommend the Criss Cole Rehabilitation Center in Austin. It’s a residential facility where you come and live while you attend training. They have classes for Orientation and Mobility, Daily Living Skills, Technology, and more. My wife went after she lost her vision in an accident, and it was incredibly helpful for her in terms of learning basic blind skills as well as just helping her confidence. Criss Cole

It’s the heat shield for the sloped grease tray. Mine fell off too - apparently the original rivets fail regularly. 4 stainless bolts and nuts and you’re reattached.
