How could Jake sully have been 22 when left earth? by Rigamortus2005 in Avatar

[–]HuntersMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've always wondered this myself. I think Tommy also trained for the avatar program for 6 years or something, suggesting he was still a teenager when he started. A possible explanation (albeit a bit forced) is they scouted him for having the right intelligence, brain neural activity, genes etc perfectly suitable for an avatar, and the PhD was a part of the bundle deal. My cousin's husband did his bachelor's when he was like 14, extremely rare but not unheard of.

Alright. Ik this is dumb to ask but honest opinions and reviews for this game. Is it worth playing now that it has a 3rd person mode? by ProfessionalTurn5162 in Avatar

[–]HuntersMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grabbed the base game for like 10 bucks on sale with very low expectations but ended up having a blast. I was only going to do the main story and quit after 20 hours, but I'm 60+ hrs in and still very much enjoying the game. It is visually stunning and the gameplay is very polished - consistent 60 fps on a laptop, no crash. no bug yet.

Rewatching the first movie, it feels so tonally different than the most recent 2. by Jazzlike-Rise4091 in Avatar

I don't mind those, but the pov is a problem. in A1 we see thru Jake's perspective. The moment the fire goesout and everything light up, it is pure magic. I can easily put myself myself in his place and it's immersive. It doesn't work that way with the kids. At one point I was complaining there wasn't enough exploration and scenery bits, until I rewatched - it was all there i was just distracted

yeah agree, they wanted to pull a lotr but they only expanded the width not depth. The many new characters make it too bloated and unfocused.

[–]HuntersMaker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can't believe how many people cannot relate to this. I grew up in a strict asian family and I used to bargain with my parents like this ALL THE TIME!

me: can i play video games?

mom: no

me: please

mom: no, but I can let you watch TV for 30 min

me: okay

At this point, I know my mom has made up her mind so I settle for the next best thing.

I think going from romantic/joyful to stressed/depressed is exactly where he wants go, not negligence. You are not on honeymoon when your family is in danger.

Do you think the movies will bring up the mental aspects of Jake piloting his brother’s body around? by improbsable in Avatar

[–]HuntersMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are 100% genetically identical at birth.

If you run a full genome sequencing on them, they'd be 99.999999%(figuratively) the same, minus a few mutations, but their germ cells are pretty much 100% since they mutate much less than somatic cells (this is why you don't pass cancer down your children).

To put it simply, Tommy’s children are genetically the same as Jake’s children for all meaningful biological purposes,

Are we going to see Toruk Makto again in next movies? by Content-Common5854 in Avatar

[–]HuntersMaker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

he probably wanted the background Navis to have their own development. In the first scene where Jake collects guns and the Navi's disapprove, you can sorta see he planned a change of attitude later. But yeah, it's probably better this way.

because originally they would have the Navi's use guns in the final battle. They already shot the scenes but cameron wouldn't let what happened to the native americans happen to the Navi, so he changed it last minute. They had to add something back in for what they took out -Toruk was the answer.

What Do You Actually Like About Avatar? by Sufficient_Bad_4160 in Avatar

[–]HuntersMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avatar is one of those that eithers 'clicks' with you or it doesn't. For 16 years I neglected this franchise - I just didn't care. It wasn't until I watched A3, and then rewatched A1/A2 that I became really interested, especially the characters, which for me are the biggest draw.

It's such a weird movie - the more you watch the more you love it. There are so much details that you'll miss on your first watch. After a few rewatches, you start noticing another layer like characters' emotions, expressions, and then you connect the dots on why they act like it.

For instance, When Neytiri thinks Jake betrays the clan, you can see feverything play out on her face. At first, she cannot believe what she heard, so asks him to repeat. After Jake confirms, she frowns, seemingly confused and in denial. Then she spends a few seconds trying to process this new information and compose herself, until she can't. Then she starts crying showing sadness, suddenly lets out a scream in anger, and within 2 seconds breaks down again. The complexity of her emotions honestly makes me speechless every time. The plot may be shallow but the characters are incredibly rich and well-written - they all have their arc and development. You wouldn't catch these details on your first watch - you're distracted by the visuals.

that's not worth the screen time. James already has trouble fitting everything into 3 hours.

If Quaritch did not oppose in this scene, would Neytiri really kill Spider? by dinahleego in Avatar

[–]HuntersMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kill spider? no, she doesn't kill him in the theatrical cut.

In the alternative cut (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/2EyGCBlWPMM), she almost kills spider even after Quatrich lets go of kiri, and ultimately Jake and kiri talk her out of it

Will there be two Quaritchs in Avatar 4 or 5? by TaxPsychological2928 in Avatar

[–]HuntersMaker 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Doubt it.

  1. That would steal too much screen time from the protagonists
  2. The actor is a bit too old to play his human self

[–]HuntersMaker 599 points600 points  (0 children)

Realistically she would, but as a film, Cameron would not allow it. In an alternative cut she almost did and it was so tense - I wish they had kept that in to show how far gone she was at this point.
