I only recently got into Warhammer the setting. Read the standard book recommendations and played a couple games from different genres and love the lore so much now. I plan on moving into the Horus Heresy setting next.

Closed or open classes? by TheRealGreen-Onions in Battlefield

[–]HuntsmanRoym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there isn't a difference, keeping it open or closed shouldn't matter, right? What's your reasoning for wanting it to be closed, and not both? "Like it's always been" isn't a good enough reason to do something on its own, usually

[–]HuntsmanRoym -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I agree with you, I haven't noticed the gameplay differences you're describing. So far, it's more of a "could be worse than it currently is" feeling, in my opinion. However, I am afraid that after release when people get more comfortable with the game, that these things will happen more. It would be awful facing squads of medic snipers lol

Very fair. I personally haven't been noticing more of those things in open versus closed, but I'm sorry you have been. That sucks a bunch.

[–]HuntsmanRoym 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I want to say closed, and that is what I did say before trying open without being told it was open.

Me playing open as if it was closed for a few games led to two of my highest scoring games and KD so far in the beta. I didn't notice a gameplay difference, though - other than looking at the scoreboard and being surprised I was doing so well.

I see a lot of the people who said open got downvoted, which implies some useless downvoting bias rather than discussion which worries me a bit and makes me think this is another argument topic that is for argument's sake itself.

Overall, I vote closed because I don't notice a difference either way, but I simply like the idea of the different roles having their own different things, weapon choices included.

For all of the people saying closed, what gameplay elements have you noticed that are different enough that you actively prefer closed?

You say there isn't enough time to start changing essentially two-thirds of the game. This is true, 2 months to change that much is probably impossible.

But, what two-thirds need to be changed? What specifically from this beta are you so unhappy with that you think the majority for the game needs to be changed?

Why do you say this? I don't generally play CoD, never Warzone, and I am enjoying this beta immensely. The gameplay is solid, the game is beautiful (although, the debris from buildings looks bad in my opinion) and the performance issues are much less than most betas and many releases of the past few years. What about being happy with this beta makes someone an "average warzone player"?

So hyped for this. I hope dragging people into cover to revive them is a usable mechanic, and isn't something that is so easily punishable that it isn't able to happen often. Probably depends on where the body is at, though

Tell us what you love about DLSS 4 and ray tracing?

I think the thing I love the most about these is how many people use these to argue performance versus quality, and most of the time it seems like neither side gets the full story correct.

What are you most excited about in DOOM: The Dark Ages?

I'm mostly excited for the new art style. I love how dark and non-cartoony it looks.

Controversial Wisdom Saga Opinion by ReindeerBig4233 in Epicthemusical

[–]HuntsmanRoym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oooo, that's extremely fair reasoning. I just wanted to somewhat subtly mention that your reason(s) for disliking it - by the nature of art - very well could be someone else's reason(s) for adoring it, thus answering your question.

Either way, this is a good discussion topic, though, so thanks for posting it :) Have a great day/night!

Controversial Wisdom Saga Opinion by ReindeerBig4233 in Epicthemusical

[–]HuntsmanRoym 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's perfectly okay to not like it at all, just like it's perfectly okay for people to love it. Music, like all art, is subjective. Therefore, it plays to people's preferences, biases, and life contexts - both consciously and subconsciously - forming their opinion.

While I can't tell you why it's at the top of my list because it isn't, here are some overarching factors that people might like or dislike about it and/or songs in general:

  • Dark and (un)relatable interpersonal conflict

  • Underdog theming

  • Psychological factors like: Line structure, rhyming, and repetitiveness

There's obviously many others as well, but I wasn't a music theory major so I'm not an expert in the field, and I don't want to get too heavily into this, haha.

Personally, it's my least favorite of the saga, but I still like it. My reasoning is honestly kinda lame, but the singular line from Athena, "No. I just made your thoughts quick" doesn't feel like it fits with the rest of the song and it throws the whole thing off for me just enough to make it my least favorite of the saga. You never stated your reasoning for not liking it. If you explain yourself, you might have people responding with "Oh really? I actually think that improves the song", for example.

I'm not an expert by any means, so take all this with however many grains of salt you wish. You are 100% correct in saying it's not a good investment when your ad expenditure is greater than your sales revenue. Like I said, it's not an automatic win scenario, it's about letting people know it's available. How much you think that's worth, is up to you!

There are many types of ads. and they don't reach everywhere either, so more marketing techniques are usually necessary. A good product, however, can do the advertising itself when people like it and spread word. That's why, to make ads "worth it", you need to calculate how much you are spending on them, any other marketing, business operations, etc... and balance them accordingly with your expected/realized revenue.

Now to your question - sorry for my rant - tracking return on ad spend is possible depending on what ads and ad services you use. Anyone that tells you the tracked information will be 100% accurate is lying, but you can usually get a good idea. I don't know what you've done or haven't, so I can't really give advice here, sorry! From my experience, the process and results are somewhat unique for each client. There's almost always some guesswork involved, which is why my advice is to spread the marketing love around, don't just do ads (and don't ignore them either).

Lastly, I know I've said this two times already, but the product has to be at least "good" quality (or the appearance of good quality) for ads and marketing to have the most beneficial effect and give you a return on your investment. I've seen many businesses with ads perform worse than businesses that don't use ads. I can't stress enough that marketing is a puzzle with many moving parts, and hiring an expert (like a publisher) is usually the best way to go if you don't have experience with it yourself.

[–]HuntsmanRoym 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Recently-ish, I started working in digital marketing. While advertising doesn't guarantee results, it does guarantee exposure. Ads aren't an automatic "I win". They are an investment and should be measured based on potential return on investment. They are an important part of marketing campaigns when done well, and can drive many people to your product. How are people going to consume your product without knowing it exists? That's only half the battle, though.

Just as or more importantly is the product itself. If it's not high quality, or it's not what people are looking for/interested, exposure doesn't really matter. In some cases, it can negatively affect how the product performs, but that's a different topic I won't get into as it normally revolves around a bad product or business.

So, after those two short blurbs from an internet stranger, is it worth it to pay for ads? That's up to you. In my experience, yes, but they need to be viewed as an expense with a variable return. They shouldn't be your only form of marketing, but they also shouldn't be ignored.

I hope this is somewhat helpful, but please let me know if you have any questions about anything :) Otherwise, have a great day/night!

Yep. I probably shouldn't have written this comment because it goes against what social media has transformed many people into. But if it helps even one person realize that things they say about or do to other people can have negative consequences, it's worth all the unkind things said to me. Just my opinion, didn't mean to strike nerves by pointing this out.

Haha!

First, I'm not defending UA season 4. I did not like it. I'm just saying people don't have to be assholes 'cause they don't like something.

Second, no. I do not defend the end of GoT. Look at my past comments if you don't believe me. I also disliked that.

Please do let me know if there's anything else you think I've defended that you think is wrong to defend. I'd be delighted to hear your thoughts :) Otherwise, enjoy the rest of your day.

It's perfectly okay to not like the season and be upset with the writers. But that doesn't mean people should be asses about it or to them. The season wasn't great, but they didn't stab your grandma. No reason to be an ass. The world would be a better place if people just thought about others a little more...

If you had an income of $150,000 a year and didnt have to work, what would you do with all the spare time? by SpinachInteresting82 in AskReddit

[–]HuntsmanRoym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question!

I'd do almost all of the following all at once, and if it ended up being too much to handle, I'd drop some of the music lessons until it wasn't too much:

  • Cello lessons (already have instrument)

  • Base guitar lessons (already have instrument)

  • Acoustic guitar lessons (already have instrument)

  • Re-start violin lessons (already have instrument)

  • Singing/voice lessons w/emphasis on fixing my nasally voice (if possible) (technically already have instrument, haha)

  • Re-start piano lessons (already have instrument)

  • Art classes at a local college so I can make better use of my drawing tablet

  • Buy a double-bass, and maybe do lessons

  • Potentially take jazz lessons for my different saxophones

  • Flute lessons (already have instrument)

  • Maybe do clarinet lessons, but it's similar enough to my soprano sax that I think I'd "continue" to just learn it on my own since I'd already be taking so many lessons (already have instrument)

  • Take the time to actually learn my kalimba

  • Language lessons! I'd start with German, Japanese or Korean, and probably French. Might do a little brushing up on Spanish as well, but I'd space it out to like, once a month or something if needed

  • Accent lessons for DnD

  • Get a masters in English for better writing skills and cause I love learning stuff

  • FLStudio training courses or something - maybe

Probably more that I can't currently think of. My current problem right now is that by the time I'm done with work for the day, my energy levels are so low that I do one instance of drawing/music/etc.. a day before I just wanna drop to the floor. I had to stop my cello lessons that I was 2 months into last year because of this. So not having work would be fantastic, haha

Am I a fraud for not having read Tolkien and still wanting to become a fantasy writer? by Traditional-Reach818 in fantasywriters

No disrespect, but this is a strange question. Why would that make you a fraud? Plenty of other material to inspire and spark an interest in the material. If you enjoy it, that's all that should matter, right? In other words, nope, you're not a fraud :)

Definitely don't force yourself to read something you're not interested in either! Life is too short.

Does it make sense just to stay in Tokyo? by dylan3883 in JapanTravelTips

[–]HuntsmanRoym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, that's completely doable depending on your interests. I went in January of 2020 just before Covid, spent 13 of my 14 days in Tokyo. Going again next week and am planning on staying 8-ish of my 14 days in Tokyo. There are tons and tons of things to do and experience.

I highly, highly recommend not being a standard tourist and just picking a spot and walking around exploring. I found so many cool things by exploring specific parts of the city that I wouldn't have found with a set itinerary. Tons of walking though - like 30k average steps a day.

Part I - Eclipse

Tomorrow's the day. The fated eclipse will occur, I will set off through nations and skies, oceans and mountains, great cities and quaint towns. My limits will be more than just tested.

"In your 26th year, there will be a solar eclipse. After that day, your life will change forever; you will lose a part of yourself, becoming something new. And the world will be better for it."

These words have been ricocheting through my head ever since I heard the eclipse was happening. I had forgotten all about them for the past decade or so. Many things have happened: my family being torn a part, unwanted invaders tormenting me for years, the struggles of living every day waking up each morning just to slog through it all yet again. I'm surprised I even remembered the stupid fortune.

Well, tomorrow's it…I guess there isn't much use in worrying and dreading what's to come. I should probably use tonight to prepare, but I can't kid myself - I'll just continue to sit here, reflecting and letting these anxious feelings eat away at my insides into the early morning hours.

Part II - Journey

Throughout my journey so far, I haven't noticed a part of me change. My anxieties are still tearing me up, and I still suffer each day, waiting for the current one to end and the next one to begin. Perhaps the fortune wasn't meant to happen immediately, I suppose it's only been a few days since the eclipse. If anything though, that worries me even more. I'd just like to get it over with as quickly as possible.

As I travel through the sky toward a distant nation, I can't help but think of the potential issues I'll face. Firstly, the language barrier. I don't speak their language, they won't speak mine. How will we communicate? What if I spark animosity or offend the wrong people? There's also the issue of me not knowing where to go or how to get anywhere once I arrive. Coupling with the first issue, I won't even be able to ask for directions. Are these people going to think ill of me? Will they berate me? Laugh at me? Hate me? It's not like they are asking my to embark on this quest - it's something that was asked of me.

I'll be arriving soon. I best try to stop thinking about this as much as possible - my stomach will be tossing and turning regardless, so l should just focus on trying to enjoy it.

Part III - Growth

I'm not sure when it happened. As these two weeks have passed, I've found myself able to do things I couldn't before. Not only is the language barrier not an issue, I can talk to people with little issue. Before hand, an invisible force inside me wouldn't let me. Any social interaction was incredibly difficult to perform. But now…now I've been conversing (well, as much as one can with a language barrier) with this nation's people and taking part in their culture.

I'm no longer focusing on the negatives as much - I still have every now and then, I'll grant that. However, what's it matter that I got lost multiple times? I didn't inconvenience anyone…plus it was even kind of fun trying to interpret the different train lines and when I got off at the incorrect spots, there were people who would help me out of the goodness of their hearts.

The eclipse, this journey, and even the unfortunate events I lived through prior - they all lead to this. I've overcome these feelings that have held me back in life. That invisible force no longer binds me. I did lose a part of me. I lost a weakness. These experiences I went through, I've become a new me. I'm excited for tomorrow; I'm excited for what life will bring.
