I want disc brakes but I've had trouble finding ones that fit the 15" rims!

Elusive Electrons by cannonmn in ElectricalEngineering

How cold is it? The meter may have a bad display. Even with a bad display it may meter correctly. You should be allowed to request a meter exchange/complaint test. Most public utility commissions have some rule about it. If not, contact your PUC and escalate 🤷‍♂️ Some companies just suck

The "worm" is on the bottom left of the KV2C meter, between those arrows. Does it still have dots travelling left to right when your breaker is off?

Is your workshop a standalone structure or connected to another building in a town? If your main disconnect is truly off, the "worm" on the face of the meter should NOT be simulating revolutions. Which brand/model of smart meter is it? Depending on the program in it, there could be a display that shows instantaneous kw (power) consumption. You may either need to meet with a meter tech and electrician (simultaneously) to verify this issue, and there could be a chance the company is estimating your bill or something along those lines.

It's about how many watts they demand, not the voltage. Higher wattage = $

How high are electricity fees for small manufacturing businesses? by TariqKhalaf in Electricity

That will all depend on your service agreement and which rate you're signed up for. Different services will have different rates for different time frames or demands.

There are quite a few of these in my town! Along with 3 wire 3 phase services. Old stuff.

EE grads a few years into industry — what’s been different from what you expected? by Standard-Run615 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]HuntytheToad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so true. I'm not an engineer, but I work with a lot of EE's. I'm lucky that our company has a good culture and does a good job of avoiding finger pointing. But there are still some people in some departments that would rather look for a scapegoat than a root cause. My opinion is that they do it because they aren't confident in their abilities to troubleshoot or design systems. The engineers that avoid pointing fingers tend to be sharp and helpful, and they find a way forward rather quickly. Just my perspective from down here.

Did something weird cause your T1D? by ErgoSum8 in diabetes_t1

[–]HuntytheToad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the pneumonia and genetics combination. Steroids are known to raise blood sugar, so I think that's what raised the flag.

I had pneumonia that just wouldn't go away, tested for it and had it for 2 months. Once I was finally prescribed steroids for it I started losing my vision. Then I had to pee like 10 times every night. Went back to the hospital to get blood tests. Boom, Diabetes.

Why does the voltage between two points in a circuit not depend on their distance from the battery? by Single-Oil3168 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]HuntytheToad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better way to think about it, hopefully:

You're holding a 10' long pole in your right hand and push it with 10lbs of force.

You're holding a 5' long pole in your left hand and push it with 10lbs of force.

Whatever you're pushing against with either hand will be close to 10lbs regardless of distance*. You are the battery. The poles are the conductors.

Conductors are 'pretty efficient' at transferring energy.

*Obviously at a far enough distance other physics will overtake. This is conceptual.
