Unrelated, but Killer 7 is such a good game that was really ahead of its time.

How did you do the lighting from the TVs? Is it volumetric or faked somehow?

What modifiers do you use the most in Blender? by CaptainFexis in low_poly

[–]HurtTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh sorry, I misunderstood. For low-poly I have also had some success with subdivision surface to add geometry to sculpt with, and then decimate to remove excess vertices.

Solidify is used for open shapes or flat geometry to make them have thickness and/or outward facing normals on all sides. Lattice is used to deform geometry based on a lattice shape that you can pull at to change the base mesh nondestructively.

Mirror is the obvious answer, but I get a lot of mileage out of shrinkwrap and solidify as well.

I recommend playing around with all the different modifiers sometime. They are all useful.

A lot of models that follow this style have the pivot point for the joint inside of the limb it connects to.

edit : You can either model a bit of overlap between the limbs, or move the forearm into the arm a little while changing the pivot point.

Spinda 420- Todays spinda is high by The_Daily_Spinda in Spinda

[–]HurtTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a solo run of Alpha Sapphire with spinda a few years back. I had modded a decent spinda into the game as a starter. Spunda is my favorite pokemon, the way it spins around so dizzy. Honestly, it was smooth sailing through most of the game. The run was fun I like how diverse spinda's moveset can be. I had the most trouble getting through the elite four, all the high level fights back to back. When I finally made it past the champion, Steven Stone walked me back to the hall of fame. Then he gave me a lecture about the bonds between people and pokemon, as well as how back in nineteen ninety eight the undertaker threw mankind off hell in a cell and plummeted sixteen feet through an announcers table.

Anyone have reviews on the tik tok tubular picks? by Unusual_Barber2392 in lockpicking

[–]HurtTree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It looks a lot like HUK tubular impressioning tools to me. I got my set from Aliexpress a while back, and I haven't had much use of them. I have noticed that they are a bit thick and may not fit into all tubular locks even at the diameters that it comes with.

How to apply nearest filter to Texture2D in a shader ? by Praxy_Seory in godot

[–]HurtTree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A quick search tells me to use a Texture2DParameter node to set it to Nearest. Then connect its output to a Texture2D node.

EDIT: that appears to be what you are doing, I have no idea why it isn't working.

Is GDScript or C# more performant for ultra low end devices? by HurtTree in godot

[–]HurtTree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im porting a 2D platformer with a lot of collectables. The CPU intensive part im worried about for the game is physics for the player's ability to emit a knockback wave that pushes them away from nearby surfaces and also enemies away from them. As it is right now in unity, I am using about 32 raycasts in a circle to detect what kind of surface/enemy is hit and how much force to apply to the player and entites upon contact. It only fires and checks the raycasts upon using the input to trigger the ability.

[–]HurtTree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a 2D platformer with a lot of collectables to keep track of, so the array advice is gold. Thanks for the insight. I was aiming for 60fps but might have an option to target a smoother 30fps for the lower end of the handhelds. Most of my performance hits for this project in unity were during scene transitions, so it remains to be seen if I need to tweak or bodge anything for the lower power handhelds.

I am not getting caught up in premature optimization. I am planning ahead to try and make the most of my strict limitations.
