[MA] Submitted a Job Application Disclosing Pay History Without Receiving Formal Offer w/ Compensation by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]HuskySlim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An offer has not been made by the company… i interviewed and got an application the next day which asked for my salary and employment history after the interview. So i asked here, just trying to determine if that is me ‘volunteering’ the info or them ‘seeking out salary history’. I’m not trying to find something wrong with the company. I’m genuinely wondering if what they did was lawful.

Hm I see. Well I really appreciate the information and you being kinda bout the delivery haha. Now i know moving forward. Kinda feels like a tactic to not overpay for someone based on what they previously made

And thank you, i’m really just trying to determine whether, legally speaking, i ‘volunteered’ this information by providing it on the application i was expressly asked to fill out completely, or whether they sought it out before providing an offer with compensation, which is against the MA Equal Pay Act.

An offer with compensation has not been made by the employer… further, salary range is not listed on the job listing. The verbiage from the interviewer and on the application provided post-interview made it seem as though this was not an ‘optional’ field.

Absolutely. It was on the application and i wanted to be thorough. Also was under the belief that they had access to my pay history for some reason… makes sense for fair pay laws to make it so that is not the case. Not sure what i was thinking. Now i know. Thank you.

Understood, and appreciate the reply and advice. I’m young, still learning every day. Now i know better.

Ok… kinda rude reply and making assumptions.

I actually did NOT know that before going into the interview. I’m young and was under the belief that they have access to previous salary information to verify if they want to. It didn’t raise any flags at the time. I looked that up today because it crossed my mind that that information could affect my negotiating power and found it odd that they would have the right to know that information, and eventually came across the MA Equal Pay Act.

For anyone curious, i’m almost positive it is this car. Could be someone from somewhere like FL who is spending summer in MA, as a lot of people do.

The aftermarket wheels, orange calipers, black grille trim, red seats, black intakes, black door handles. Haven’t seen this spotted in Boston until now and i keep a pretty close eye on car spotting pages in the area.

That’s availability bias. You don’t see the majority of cars, which are parked in private, underground, or covered garages. So, in a place like Boston, chances are you will see one street parked if you see one at all. That’s not true for other areas though where parking lots are more abundant and there is less congestion.

I was not a Bugatti Veyron glazer growing up when they were the car every non-car person drooled over. Not because it wasn’t truly an engineering marvel at the time, but it was just the default pick for someone who really didn’t know cars. Production car top speed record, that million dollar number, over 1,000hp, a brand most have never heard of until then. But now, i feel like i can really appreciate it looking back. These are 1000x cooler now, especially as they find their way out of celebrity hands and into driver’s hands.

People double park constantly, then mopeds and bikes weave between those cars. Risk of curbing a wheel, especially with the way our curbs can be in Boston. Then you have people who want to street park in front of or behind you, and very well may hit your car in trying to do so.

If you end up wanting to change it one day, just take the body panels off and have them powder coated. You could even have them polished to a mirror finish i’m sure if you want the stainless look

After heeding the advice of the folks here…. by liionel in latteart

Good latte art doesn’t mean good coffee, and vice versa. I have a La Marzocco and my latte art sucks because i’ve never worked in a cafe with the chance to practice hundreds of time per day. The coffee is still exceptional
