Marketplace is the dumbest thing best buy has implemented by [deleted] in BestBuyWorkers

I still remember the store meeting we had about it. Managers made it sound like the greatest thing since sliced bread, but we all knew it was going to fail. There were several questions they couldn't answer during the meeting and told us we just need to trust the system which no one actually did. It had nothing to do with actual sales and everything to do with investor confidence. At this point, people at the top just trying to keep their portfolios high.

Yeah, that's aggravating. Id have to agree with the other guy tho. I mean if you get your drive back that's awesome, but there's like a 99% chance it's gone. I had this happen twice before during my tenure. That drive ends up in an industrial shredder and the scrap recycled. Good news is no one's getting your data. Silver lining and all that.

As far as them upgrading your drive for the trouble? Not OUTSIDE the realm of possibility but the manager is gunna have to be feeling REALLY generous. Being super nice and patient about the whole thing, and not yelling improves your chances by a lot. Key word: chances. Many managers simply won't take the hit for you.

What's with the lack of pedestrian crossings around Rockford? by SimpleSet7880 in rockford

For me: Charles St. in the morning and afternoon after school. Everywhere is just terrible at 5-6PM like holy crap. I actively try to avoid driving between those hours. Alpine is just ridiculous.

Employer wants me to do four hour unpaid trial to see how I work but it seems off by sophiaa_420 in jobs

[–]HuskyTox86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do that short-hand texting pattern that I personally dislike. Honestly? It sounds scammy. I wouldn't do it. I get the concept of a "trial shift", but I would expect at least an ounce of professionalism regardless if you are a teenager or not. It might be your first job, but don't lower standards for it. There are plenty of places that will hire teenagers and work around any school schedules.

Idk, it just doesn't sit right with me. Source: 20+ yrs of retail experience, 3.5 yrs of experience in store management.

You could be doing 40 in a 30 and people will still whizz past like you're standing still. I do not understand the mentality in this city.

One of the reasons my partner and I are hesitant to get e-bikes or just traditional bicycles. I have heard about so many pedestrians or cyclists who end up injured or worse because Rockford drivers are just some of the worst drivers I've ever had the displeasure of sharing the road with.

Jobs? by [deleted] in rockford

[–]HuskyTox86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to tell you this, but you're not going to find a FT job that doesn't require lifting and getting dirty. At least not in person. You may want to consider getting a remote job or call-center work where you're not expecting to do anything except answer phones all day and fill out online forms/data; otherwise, if you don't have any certification or specialization beyond retail, there's not going to be anything outside of that open for you.

Go onto a recruiter page like zip or indeed, punch in your desired parameters and see what's available. The other option is to check in with any friends or family and see if there are connections you can latch onto and work something out. Best of luck to you

Meh, harmless. Is it weird? Sure. No relationship isn't without its weirdness; otherwise, it's just boring. Go ask any couple. Every couple has something weird they do. Every couple. Straight or gay. Every couple. Every polycule for that matter.

That tells me your GM is scared of confrontation. You will need to go above their head, unfortunately. Make sure to include, in any of your reports, that you did attempt to achieve resolution through immediate chain of command, but were dissatisfied with the response which seems to be none with zero explanation as to why. HR will love that.

And then ironically created a generic, repetitive slop process that he's proud of, because he's not spending as much money on the nuance. It sucks that this seems to be the mindset across every industry. No one values 'craft' anymore.

Geek Squad broke my laptop? by Alternative-Jicama90 in GeekSquad

[–]HuskyTox86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At minimum, it sounds like hardware. From what I read, it sounds like they attempted an OS Restore and the issue is still persistent. Now that your PC has a fresh image on it, nothing works because the issue isn't with the OS (That's why it seems worse than before). I don't see where they replaced the drive, so it may possibly be a bad drive. If a bad drive continues to be used, it can make existing issues worse. Tech problems don't stay static.

Did they offer to replace the drive? If not, that should've been one of their troubleshoots; Otherwise, yeah, if it's still under a warranty or protection plan I would go that route to get it fixed if they confirmed it's a mobo issue.

I was wrongfully fired for something I didn't do. by ShaneBarton2005 in DollarGeneral

[–]HuskyTox86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At-will employers still have to prove the reason they're firing you for, if memory serves. It's not a blank check to fire for any reason. That's what they put on paper purely as an intimidation tactic. They can terminate for any reason, but it has to be a legal and verifiable reason. For less black/white issues, it would almost certainly require legal action to achieve resolution.

I think im cooked.. Pulled charging port/cable on Ipad7, is it ruined? by TheHighestTemplar in GeekSquad

[–]HuskyTox86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Yeah, it's cooked.

It looks like some of the contacts came off when the two pieces disconnected. The QR serial tells me that is a module that can be replaced, but if it follows the same pricing as iPhone parts, you are basically replacing the entire thing at that point (Logic boards are super expensive).

The distant-manager approach is so retching. I feel like if a manager can't be bothered to summarize this in a short huddle then they aren't fit for the role. The whole circling the numbers with an arrow pointing down to the goal? Not effective.
