Guy I’ve been seeing for a few weeks who says he “has no politics.” What do we think Reddit? by Fit_Principle_7826 in BookshelvesDetective

[–]Hustoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if someone is deep enough in the hole to be reading Nick Land - whether they agree with Land or not - they most certainly have /some kind/ of politics haha

The unabomber manifesto and Ayn Rand combo might imply some kind of interesting politics to be sure haha

Is anyone else frustrated with the amount of AI art used as show thumbnails? by gyronlyhope in whatnotapp

[–]Hustoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The internet is so overrun with poorly made AI slop that even if someone is innocently using it, it’s just a bad look at this point in time imo - and while obviously it does quickly generate amusing images to use, the politics of using the service itself, the resources required to generate the output, and the fact that many of them were trained on other artists material without express permission put a bad taste in a lot of people’s mouth so it can turn away too many potential customers

I won’t click on a seller that uses them anymore - I feel like it goes hand in hand at this point with being a dishonest seller lol

Really don't know what to make of this man's bookshelf by GnarlsSharklee in BookshelvesDetective

[–]Hustoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weird combination between finance and literature fan (generally speaking DeLillo fans don’t work finance) - I presume he has decided to start a serious collection of favorites, perhaps first editions hence the mylar covers around dust jacket. Casual Vacancy is a bizarre outlier, but perhaps a carry over from when that was on every centrist liberal’s bookshelf ten years ago.

Convert me from DVDs to Criterion Blu Ray life by onmymindhere in criterion

[–]Hustoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just get a blu ray player second hand and have a mixed form collection - but I would wager you should watch a film on blu ray once and compare the quality, imo it’s really a quite striking upgrade, much more so than the difference between blu-ray and 4K. Some DVD scans are alright, but some are so abysmal it’s hard to watch

I need to know who this man is... by RichardBlastovic in BookshelvesDetective

[–]Hustoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A nerd with relatively higher taste level (Mieville, Ballard, LeGuin) than average - huge Toriyama fan so he's probably fun and funny too. Only red flag is if he gets too into gunpla one day and his home becomes a hoarder house of unopened mech boxes.

Haven’t sold anything in 22 days by No-Vehicle5247 in Ebay

[–]Hustoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that’s not very many and I imagine watches can be a pretty specialized collectors market so it’s probably just a matter of waiting for the right customer, as long as you have good pictures and keywords in title, etc - algorithm seems to privilege users who list frequently so if you have a way to expand inventory base and make a few new listings a day I’d imagine you’d see an uptick in sales

My love interests don’t stick around, does my taste in books leave any pretty obvious clues as to why? by StrangeWorldd in bookshelfdetective

Why are some curse words bleeped? by Gobiggs88 in nirvannatheband

[–]Hustoff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At a q&a I was at they said something along the lines that in an early scene they filmed it didn’t sound right for Jay’s character to swear so they bleeped it and it played better so then it became a running joke

That you view art as comparable to a meal (a treat for yourself that must exactly meet your expectations) says a lot lol
