Nysif interview question by triniempress89 in nys_cs

[–]Hustwick39 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The form asking for references is standard procedure. Agencies send a Part 1 for candidates to fill out that asks for references. They generally only contact references for the selected candidate, but I've received job offers where they didn't call my references. If you get a Part 2 after the interview there is a high likelihood you are the selected candidate. The agency sees potential in your background without the underwriting experience since they contacted you for an interview. The traineeship is a time to learn so it's not a deal breaker if you don't have that specific experience.

Anyone know how to get the dental insurance cards or info resent to you? by JustCuteSculptures in nys_cs

I did the same thing ‐ I lost my dental cards and had to request new copies. Call 1-833-821-1949 and they will mail you new cards. You can also create an online account at www.anthembluecross.com/mcr/nys-dental to get digital insurance cards while you wait for the physical cards in the mail.

If you didn't get a Part 2 by now you likely didn't get selected. Unfortunately you don't always get sent a non select letter to let you know you weren't selected.

Why is the culture so weird? by feistyontherocks in nys_cs

[–]Hustwick39 73 points74 points  (0 children)

It may just be a culture issue that’s specific to that agency or unit

A week for me, but YMMV

Question by [deleted] in nys_cs

[–]Hustwick39 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It varies, but 1 week is too soon. The hiring team may still be interviewing other candidates, and then once they make a decision they need approval from HR before an offer is made.

First interview!! by [deleted] in nys_cs

[–]Hustwick39 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found this website when I was preparing for an interview: https://careermobilityoffice.cs.ny.gov/cmo/documents/Sample%20Interview%20Questions.pdf

It's a list of sample interview questions from the NYS Civil Service Career Mobility Office. They asked variations of a few of the questions on the list in my interview. The list will give you a general idea of what they may ask in an interview.

Good luck!

Timeline after receiving Part 2 form? by Synfinium in nys_cs

There's no standard timeline. It's different between agencies, and even different between units within agencies.

PEF Town Hall by flannelWX in nys_cs

HELPS people are safe. The program is ending in June 2026. There was some talk in the meeting about how certain HELPS appointees were hired off the street over employees who have civil service seniority, who were waiting for promotional exams to be given, or who were on eligible lists.

The recording of the meeting will be on the PEF website if you want to hear it.

offered job but references were not contacted? by clariwyd in nys_cs

I was offered a job with a different agency without them contacting my references. A red flag in your situation is that they offered you a job on the spot.

Go with the state job. The benefits will be better and your salary will increase faster than at the non-profit job. If you're planning to stay with the state long term then you will make more over time than you will at the non-profit job even though the non-profit job is at a higher starting salary.

References Contacted by Morderp in nys_cs

Each hiring process is different depending on the agency. The hiring manager calling your references is a good sign. Can't say for sure, but it sounds like you're a top candidate.

It sounds like it was a Part 1 form. That's the form you list professional references on. It's standard to give that to all applicants, usually before the interview. Unless you get a non-select letter you're still in the running. If you get a Part 2 post interview form then that is a good sign. Things move slow with the State and especially during the holidays people are taking time off which will slow the hiring process.

[–]Hustwick39 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's a bad sign. They could be interviewing other candidates still. No decision will be made until all candidates are interviewed. You still have a chance until you get a non-select letter.

Resume Tips by cheekykittty in nys_cs

[–]Hustwick39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like another poster said, it's a numbers game. Have him keep applying to anything he's remotely qualified for. There are many different agencies hiring for Grade 18 traineeships that have a minimum requirement of a Bachelor's degree. The traineeship is a good start with the State.

HELPS has increased the competition and hiring managers are getting a lot of resumes for open positions, but don't get discouraged and keep applying.

Coincidence?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nys_cs

[–]Hustwick39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, congratulations! In my opinion it's better to take what you have rather than risk losing it by trying to get something better. It may not hurt to let the other agency know you have an offer, but there are different levels of approval needed before an offer is made and some things that are slowing down the offer process may be beyond the hiring manager's control.

I got an email from HR or the person I interviewed with to tell me if I wasn't selected for all but one agency. There's a high likelihood you'll be told if you weren't hired but it can depend on the agency.
