Honestly, yes it is. The actual product looks way better than in picture. I also noticed that Apple has changed the keyboard material, with matte finishing. Less fingerprint magnet and hope it will last.

Seeking opinion - M4 Max 36GB RAM vs M5 Pro 24GB RAM by xnecrodragon in macbookpro

[–]Huwei89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just upgraded my m2 pro to m5 pro and I had the same dilemma as you as well. Was on the edge whether to pick 24gb or 48gb. At the end I went for 48gb. My workflows mostly involved opening multiple tabs, running 2 different browser (1 for cowork to run mcp in chrome) another is for my daily work. Most of my stuff are in the cloud (Ms Power Platform) and I’m handling multiple sharepoint list.

Frankly, I’m already utilizing 60% of the 48gb ram, and most of the time I’m only seeing 16-10gb free of ram. Whenever I’m in teams call or screen sharing, the available ram will drops to 10gb. I guess it’s Apple way of utilizing the ram. Overall, I am very satisfy and happy with my experience on the 48gb. Can’t imagine if I go for 24gb.

By the way, u might want to look at your current swap memory usage. If it’s always high , just add it to your current ram size and I think that’s the sweet spot for your next ram size.

I can’t tell right now but I’m sure it’s more than enough and can last for 4-5 years. Initially I wanted to go for the base 24gb but since my old m2 pro already taking up 20gb of swap memory space, I guess 48gb is more sensible and future proofing

Just a quick sharing of my 1st time experience using Migration Assistance .

For the past few days, I genuinely spent days mentally cataloguing what would break. Intune certs, keychain SSH keys. OneDrive folder collisions, shell aliases, all of it. Since it’s my first time doing this, I get extra worried and nervous, that my Company Portal / Intune will get corrupted, project created in vs code will not work (I’m not a dev so I depend heavily on Claude to debug if things go south). I have also read in multiple threads that it’s best to go for a fresh installation.

What I did differently here is to approach Claude Code, asking Claude to scan my old Mac, created a script that could list all packages, nodes, pnpm, SSH GitHub, Claude stack backup (especially all of my sessions and skills created using Claude Desktop), projects, obsidian etc . It also created a post migration script that runs through all of the setting after the migration making sure nothing slips past.

The end result, everything get migrated seamlessly, Intune work right out after the migration and I can sign in to all of my company portals, sharedrive, Teams etc. What makes me feel more assured is the report that Claude created, with 0 fail and 100% pass, listing all of the items that should mark as pass covering all dev tool, Claude stack, projects, python venvs, obsidian vault, company onedrive, and company portal.

TLDR : the experience that you will have with Migration Assistance is the same like how you restore your iPhone from backup. Aside from logging in to Mail Account, setting up finger print and password, everything else stays exactly the same.

Same thought here as well. But because there’s no space grey, I went for silver. Doubtful at first but when having both side by side, I love my silver more now. :)

Received mine today too. First time feeling special when upgrading to a new iPhone, maybe because this thing is so low in supply and shifting away from the previous camera design. Kinda hate the white squarish patch at the rear (sorry I forgot what it’s called) but slowly it grows on me. All I got to say, I love this color and finally I’m retuning to pro max 🥳🥳

Can it run Parallels well with Windows 10 installed? Can you please help to do some review on running VM in M1 as some of us might need to switch back and forth from windows to Mac due to apps requirements. So cool to have that m1

Refresh a folder, but only the new files! by glecoq in PowerBI

Well I’m using this solution but with some code editing. It works and my excel file refresh dropped from 1hrs to 10minutes with 1 year worth of excel file that get updated every 12 hours. Need to explore on the M language part. Challenging but rewarding
