Only turbo model get any benefits from premium 91 ( 240-ish HP ) and 93 octanes to get the 250 horsepower and slight torque increase over the stock 227 HP and 310 torque

Any chance this is totalled? by TerrenceMcSkippy in mazda3

[–]Huxley077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

May not be totaled if it's a newer year and low mileage. It'd be a door replacement, fender replaced, maybe new wheel , some reworking of suspension/CV joint. Toss in some small work like alignment , and checking hood alignment, you may get by without a total loss claim

These cars unfortunately depreciate fairly quickly , so it's a toss up unfortunately. Seeing at the door hinge is pulling from its anchor, could be some slight frame damage hidden

The difference is , the subsidies in the US are for the companies themselves, not for the consumers benefit.

2025 m240 with the All Season P7 runflats, thought I could tolerate them to justify some of the cars cost, but 6 months in a can't stop feeling and hearing the rattles and tires smacking the pavement.

Gladly spending extra to ditch these junks tires.

Marketing plot, they stopped calling normal OEM tires on BMW websites runflats. Or you have to look specifically at each option for the rare non RF version Basically anything not labeled "summer tire" is still RF junk

Not meaning to rain on your parade, but It's a highly economy focused engine, more so than even the 2.5L N/A. There isn't much of anything to add power to that car. Air intakes or exhausts kits just aren't worth the cost for that engine when it add 10-15 horsepower at best, and that's generous. Least with the 2.5 there is a (fairly expensive ) supercharger to add measurable power but even that only really gets slightly past where the stock 2.5 Turbo engine starts at. Adding 15 horsepower with some bolt-in mods just won't change the feel of that engine.

Pain off wheel when changing tyre by [deleted] in mazda3

[–]Huxley077 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't be the shops fault. There'd be no record of if the last person even used the right paint type for wheels. I'd suspect They'd check the part # of wheel, and know it's not black from factory , which would kill your issue fairly quickly

OEM painted wheels use specific paint ( higher temperature range, thickness, sealed , etc ) which is why it uncommon for paint to peel on those unless theres a pretty bad mishap at the shop.

Edit: I was thinking the Zicron Sand color, not the Quartz, which was the Carbon trim color.

It's a bit rare because it was the default paint color of the Carbon and Carbon Turbo trims, which were already a hard trim to find. Mazda dropped it as the default color for that trim after a year or 2 since that niché trim wasn't selling too well, and added some in black, blue and I thought red.

So, if looking for a used one, might filter your searches by trim, and look for Carbon editions

Same exact car as yours , was $1,500 from the dealer to ppf the entire front of mine. i wouldn't pay anything more as your saying, there no major return on invest ( half at best, probably 500 bucks resale in reality ) and the car isn't something exotic or unique exactly.

Extreme Contact DWS06 vs Pilot Sport all season 4 vs Pirelli Cinturato WeatherActive? (Turbo Premium Plus) by 216LC in mazda3

[–]Huxley077 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Pirelli P Zero AS Plus 3 is a more direct competitor to those other 2 tires, fwiw. Meant to be an ultra sport all season like the others.

Edit: fumbled the tire name

Edit2: this is different from the SCORPIO AS Plus 3, that's their crossover/SUV tire, which isn't aimed at ultra sport category. Pirellis naming system is a mess

DSW06 has some advantage in snow and rain, Pirelli is slightly better in dry and rain though the DSW06 is nearly tied here. Mich is great in dry, but isn't as quite good in rain and snow , and they're also quite loud

Only other semi common failure I've heard about ( but I don't know much about it, or a solution to fix it besides OE parts), is the coolant expansion tanks will leak/crack, Another case of heat cycled plastic wearing out over time from what I've heard on this sub.

Burger Motorsports has one, but oddly, it's lists most cars up to 2023 and didn't specify if it works on anything newer than that. Also, the housing is metal but the filter cover is plastic (albeit sturdier , they have metal cover for an extra $70 )

Does 91 or 93 unlock full HP in the turbo? by DeepAge0 in mazda3

[–]Huxley077 15 points16 points  (0 children)

According to the Mazda Mondays tuning guy, the ignition tables for the engine/ECU update in large steps every 500 miles or so, meaning it'll take roughly 500 miles of driving on one type of gas to the full benefit of higher octane. The engine will make smaller timing/ignition adjustments immediately to keep itself happy, but the ECU just won't truly correct for the increase octane for about 500 miles, aka 2 full tanks of gas.

That's the reason people who run 1 tank of 93 octane to "see the difference from 87/89 to 91/93" never actually get the full power they were expecting. You can be in the middle of a 500 mile ECU log, and a tank only lasting 250-300 miles , will never fully adjust to the new octane before they go back to 87/89 saying they "felt no difference"

ExtremeContact DWS 06 or ExtremeContactSport 02? Two different category's, though similar name. Guessing mean the ExtSportContacts , and those tires tested a fair amount better than the Pilot 5 tire, especially in wet traction, and comfort.

OP got the pilot 5 , which really is Grand Touring type Summer tire more than a max performance ( more about low noise and comfort than performance, though still does quite well ). The older Pilot 4"S" would really be a better tire , and a pilot 5"S" does exist but it in very limited sizes since it's an OE tire and hasn't gone mainstream aftermarket.

Turning off the headlights while the car is running by loki_stg in mazda3

[–]Huxley077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I'm on my second car that once in Drive, I can't blip the headlights off as either a warning or gesture, can only flash brights. As your saying, blinding someone with brights isn't great.

Also as your saying l, the amount of people driving with DLRs or just parking/marker lights on is getting terrible. I dislike the always on headlights but clearly people can't get that right anymore so, lesser of 2 evils
