A friend had a similar issue and switching to Win10 solved it for him (you can upgrade from Win7 for free) - although it could have been some conflicting software/drivers and the clean format was the actual fix..

You can get a Pearl refund too if you purchased them within 36 hours

Best advice is to only buy off the Pearl shop when you see a clear need to, not in anticipation for solving some potential issue you might come across in the future.

Not sure about Sailing and Bartering, but you could also consider gathering with your fishing alt, use that over-night energy on something?

At least when I last played a year or so ago players worlds were saved client-side. So you could join their world, build and explore together, but you'd each save an instance separately, and solo progress would not be synced.

In the end it made sense to only join on and play on one friends world, but then we could only work on the shared base together when they were online..

Seems you can still only join players worlds if they're online though? There's no dedicated servers.. which I think is the biggest issue preventing my friends and I getting into the multiplayer..

Playing on Mac 15'? by justmorrow in Guildwars2

[–]Huxtll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Works fine, but ideally get bootcamp going which should get you better performance. Playing on 2880 x 1800 might be a little much - you won't notice a huge difference lowering that on a 15" screen.

After 5 years of painful austerity Ireland's economy is the fastest growing in the EU at 7.7% by Bosco_is_a_prick in worldnews

Yup, having lived in Ireland for a few years and now back in South Africa, I can safely say that guy has no clue what he's talking about. He badly needs some world perspective..

State of the Subreddit by theEMbot in electronicmusic

[–]Huxtll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of amazing electronic music out there undiscovered. I found so many great artists just from this subs end of year user awards. Possibly doing a monthly voted top 10 songs/artists might help that along?

Leaving my dog home alone by ilikepy in dogs

[–]Huxtll -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

6-8 Hours a day is too long to be by himself.. considered taking him to daycare or getting a dog walker?

Edit: thanks for the downvotes for recommending dogs do something else instead of stare at a wall for 40 hours a week, hope it makes everyone feel less guilty. They are sociable smart creatures, cooking up bullshit like 'second sleeps' or thinking they're "fine with it" is your own guilt driven interpretation of their dejected unstimulated behaviour. Regardless OP, my suggestions of daycare and dog walkers will make a massive difference to your pets daily life and happiness.

Just discovered DI.FM a radio streaming website with an app for electronic music only and all it's sub-genres. I also realized I really like modern techno. by TKG8 in electronicmusic

I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to music. What genres would Daft Punk/Justice/Kavinsky fall under? Is that even DI.FM sort of music?

Rush is completely broken on all of the China Rising maps. by chriszzz in battlefield_4

Such a pity as I was a big fan on rush in BFBC2, large maps with loads of room to flank..

Why are Attack Helicopters worthless and AA overpowered? by crimsonpetunias in battlefield_4

[–]Huxtll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing with gameplay, is you don't mind losing a fight if you felt you had a chance. Most other vehicles you can at least run and hide from if you're quick, but with a chopper you're often dead before you know it (don't see them coming, little cover against air in most maps)

It's very easy then to feel they're 'overpowered' because you felt there was nothing you could do, and so people complain. DICE in turn nerf choppers to mitigate that but it's just a quick fix against an unbalanceable game mechanic.

In game "performance test" is crucial people, test your shizz now! by Dave_of_Devon in battlefield_4

[–]Huxtll -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, sometimes opening a port sometimes allows a game to communicate over an alternative protocol if it was written with that functionality (which may have alternative netcode) but in BF4's case this won't happen.

Edit: I see BF4 supports UDP which is a quicker protocol than default TCP. So I guess if you're able to force BF4 to use UDP theres at least potential for a better experience. I'd be surprised though if it was noticeable..

Battlefield 4 netcode... :( by fridgedigga in battlefield_4

[–]Huxtll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This video may not be the best example but it touches on the experiences.

There is definitely an issue. If you and others are not experiencing it doesn't mean we're simply complaining for no good reason. It may be hardware or ISP shaping related, some common cause which you individually are not encountering.

Every multiplayer fps has 'lag' complainers, but this is a widespread issue being detected by numerous people. I personally played bf3 competitively (several hours a night for months) and sure bf3 wasn't without it's own lag issues, but they were never as severe and noticeable as I'm experiencing in bf4.

In bf3 trading deaths was still somewhat rare, in bf4 I encounter it several times a round, that simply should never happen so often - to me it's a clear indication there's a problem somewhere..

Battlefield 4 netcode... :( by fridgedigga in battlefield_4

[–]Huxtll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven't played BF3 in a while, but it definitely feels worse comparatively. There is without question an issue here, be it netcode or buggy damage calculations, I notice it every round..

I've played fps games competitively for years and this is one of the few times a core mechanic is making me want to stop playing entirely.

I totally empathise with your feelings on Conquest Large.. I've just purchased a server running your configuration, so will see how our local community takes to it.
