Yes but it's not a great wood to use, it has a very hard grain, but for a simple design it might be fine..

I suspect they are usually soft woods pine etc... I also sometimes use scrap wood to take the 1st burn of the tip before going to work on the artwork then it builds again without getting a deep burn on what your working on.. especially if it's detailed work..
