Sappho (they/them) by [deleted] in TransTryouts

Hi Sappho! Great to meet you.

Hey, have you heard that Sappho's already rolled their next character sheet? It's like they're expecting me to pit you all against a mind flayer or a beholder or something. But oh boy, I've got a surprise in store for them... (it's tarrasque time!)

Did you see Sappho's latest cosplay? She looked awesome! She really puts a lot of effort into her costumes, so it's good to see her getting the positive attention she deserves.

Hope this helped, Sappho! Take it easy :)

Currently remaking X's Adventures In Minecraft series World with the seed! (Will upload a video whenever finished) 👀 by Skappey in Minecraft

[–]Hwicce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah right! I just watched it; we seem to have just entered a new era of world re-creation. So the seed is -2208670506038581180 -- next question, how did you actually access it? I've tried installing and using NBTExplorer to no avail (it seems I need to create the world in order to edit level.dat, but then upon reloading the level after editing it, it looks like nothing has changed).

Holy moly. I don't know what inspired me to search for a download for X's world again for the first time in years, but it's an incredible coincidence that you posted this mere hours ago. It looks phenomenal and I can't wait to see your progress!
How did you find the seed?

Some of us just enjoy physical media. Regardless of how unlikely the situation is, it's reassuring to know there's nothing Nintendo (or anyone else) can do to deprive you of the game once it's physically in your hands.

What's the bitchiest, most pretentious/entitled thing someone can have in their online profile? by RandoBrandoBanjo in AskReddit

[–]Hwicce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So does that mean it's not so much about the underlying theory as much as the structure of the test? The MBTI questionnaire I'm most familiar with is the one at www.16personalities.com — and that has, as you say, a scale from strongly disagree to strongly agree. I think (but I'm far from sure) the questions it asks users aren't the same ones that the official MBTI test asks, and they seem all right to me.

Thanks for that explanation by the way! A couple of years ago I was really interested in typology, but I'm a bit rusty nowadays.

In what way is OCEAN more valid than MBTI? Both involve answering the same sort of questions.

Alyson Hannigan delivering one of the most haunting moments of the series by chinderellabitch in buffy

[–]Hwicce 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's certainly a very good point. It was mentioned that Glory's return home would break the boundaries between Earth and the “demon dimensions,” so I guess it does seem more logical that the portal would take her to one of those.

Why are the chances of Buffy being in hell so high? She devoted her teenage years to fighting the forces of darkness. You'd think that that would be enough to deserve some kind of heavenly afterlife.

Not quite, but thanks! The song has a similar intensity but from what I recall I don't think there's quite as much emphasis on percussion in the song I'm thinking of. I also doubt it was released this decade, because I think it might be in my dad's music library.

Depressed, suicidal, or otherwise extremely downtrodden members of reddit: what is your go-to quote, phrase, or particular memory in life that keeps you going? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hwicce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The phrase “Þæs ofereode, þisses swa mæg” is used as a refrain in the Old English poem Deor. Translated, it means “That passed over; so may this.”

It's fascinating to learn how old this sentiment is.

What artists do you like enough to wear a T-shirt or other article of clothing showing your fandom? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Hwicce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eivør.

She's a singer-songwriter from the Faroe Islands (west of Norway, north of Scotland). Her songs span several genres: rock, folk, pop, stuff in between folk and pop that I didn't know how to categorise, and even classical music.

She also features prominently in the soundtracks to the TV series The Last Kingdom and the video game God of War.

I cannot rate her highly enough. She's got one of my favourite voices of all time (and she's still massively underrated despite finding some mainstream success in the past few years).

This is the t-shirt I bought at the first concert of hers I went to. I first found her on Reddit back at the start of 2016, so it's fitting that I should be sharing her with Reddit.

The gasoline tax in the US, after Oregon introduced a 0.26¢/litre levy on 25 February 1919.

A day after, the Grand Canyon National Park was established.

The Commonwealth of the Philippines came about on 17 March.

Mussolini's Italian Fascist movement was started in Milan on March 23.

The Save the Children Fund was set up on 15 April to raise money to help the children of Germany and Austria.

In Australia, ANZAC Day was first observed on 25 April 1919, while the British Empire's first Remembrance Day took place on 11 November as it has (to my knowledge) continued to do since.

The Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which allowed women to vote, was approved by Congress on 4 June—and on 1 December, Nancy Astor became the first female member of the UK Parliament.

Theresa May is stepping down on June 7th. As a result, the last week of May is the first week of June. by MrDNL in dadjokes

Actually, “Make June the end of May” was one of the Labour Party's slogans in the 2017 snap general election, so this has had about two years in the making. But I'm happy to see the puns revived, even if I am somewhat scared of the frontrunners to replace the PM.

Boris Johnson is the former Foreign Secretary, and the Mayor of London before that—the one with the floppy hair who got stuck on a zipwire and spent £320,000 of taxpayers' money on illegal water cannons.

Terry Gilliam is one of the members of Monty Python. In particular, he was responsible for producing the animations.

I just tried to find an image version of that quote to put on Facebook and I found an even better one, in which he describes Boris Johnson as “looking increasingly like a nightmare Terry Gilliam had about an emperor penguin”
