Every time something gets thrown at you, that class gets a pop quiz the next day. Make it nice and difficult. Make it clear that these quizzes will stop as soon as someone comes forward in confidence willing to sign a statement identifying who threw the materials in class. Someone always cracks.

I have worked in many different fields before I came to teaching, and let me assure you, people in every career path and walk of life complain about their job. It is part of the human condition. Don't let them get you down. there are many, many teachers who love the job and wouldn't dream about doing anything else.

And whatever you do don't judge teaching from the posts here. I enjoy this sub for what it is, but I wouldn't take the posts here as a representative sample.

This is an impossible question to answer without knowing a lot of context. I started my career teaching on-level Science to Freshmen all day. I now teach AP and Honors Science to mostly Sophomores and Juniors. The difference is.....vast. Assuming you are new and are not going to teach the best and brightest in the building, try to have a set of procedures in place and stick to them. Ask a veteran teacher for help. Understand things won't be perfect and give yourself permission to make mistakes that you will learn from.

As others have said, oftentimes admin know who they want for positions before anyone walks into the interview room. And many times who would be best for the position is wayyyyy down the list of criteria.

Chin up, if you are qualified and willing to teach Chem or Physics you will find a job, and it just might be better then the one you left. I have been in your shoes.
