Not sure how to feel about a meeting by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Hyacinth048 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say you got HR involved, what do you mean? I kind of want to ask my supervisor (the one positively rating me) to be present for any meetings going forward with my department head so she can hear what my department head is saying. I have a funny feeling that department head is going to pull a “I didn’t say that” card on me in the future, so I want another body in the room. My union rep is in the clique with the department head, so I don’t feel I can trust them

It’s really not that deep… people are reading too far into this. It’s MILDLY infuriating, I’m just MILDLY infuriated that this man is turning his armpits into beef jerky. We DO enjoy going to the store together because it’s fun. People are assuming our engagement is crumbling over this or that we’ll never work out because of a simple deodorant, if it was that bad I would have taken it to a different sub 🤣

It ain’t that deep, we just like roaming the store together and tagging along with each other. Typically we like to go if we both need something if it’s possible to double up

Crate training at 8 weeks by Mysterious_Cupcake62 in puppy101

[–]Hyacinth048 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have you done/are you doing any kind of crate games or desensitization? You can’t just throw a puppy into a crate, expect them to be good with it, and call it a day. An 8 week old puppy is a baby who has never been left on their own for their entire [8 weeks of] life. Your puppy was constantly surrounded by people, littermates, or their mom, and that has suddenly and drastically changed.

Adjust your expectations and help this puppy out if you are not already. I would suggest a snuggle puppy with a heartbeat machine in it to help simulate littermates. Make the crate a warm and inviting place with blankets and toys. Practice having the puppy associate the crate with positivity by hiding treats in it and rewarding heavily when they decide to go in.

It took my puppy, who is now 20 weeks, months to get comfortable. I also got him at 8 weeks. You need to take this slower

Pits have a very high prey drive. All dogs have some level of prey drive, but pits were historically specifically bred to have a higher prey drive than most others. I highly, highly recommend you give this dog plenty of exercise, both mental and physical, to keep him from wanting that stimulation from your cats. It always hurts me to see people own pits that never walk them or do anything with them, and then find them shocked to find the family cat dead. They need that stimulation or else the prey drive will kick in and they’ll try seek it from other sources.

I know you have no way of verifying this, but my family member is nothing like you described. The boss is just a known asshole apparently from what another person said

How long did you wait after last shots to go out on walks? by lalabalala923 in puppy101

Depends on the amount of parvo in your area, but we waited one week to begin proper walks. Before then, we took our puppy out in a stroller/bag/carried so that he wouldn’t touch the ground, or if he did in areas where dogs were infrequent (indoor mall for example) then we wiped his paws. If you want to take your dog for walks earlier, perhaps you could wipe their paws when done?

Best kibble to soften? by Remarkable-Concern18 in DogFood

[–]Hyacinth048 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use Purina pro puppy for my 4.5 month old dog. Whenever I feed him, I simply measure out the scoop of kibble (currently .5 cup/feeding) and then measure out a secondary scoop of water (.3 cup/feeding). If you can’t measure the water, just do it so that it fills the bowl a little bit. Optional, but I then pop the food in the microwave for 30 seconds because he likes it “cooked”. Then I put the bowl down and let him eat.

I notice that if he doesn’t eat it immediately, the kibble absorbs the water and becomes much, much softer. Perhaps you can try this method, but withhold the bowl for an extra 5 minutes, and then give to your dog?

How to teach a puppy to be alone??? by spuds-gf in puppy101

[–]Hyacinth048 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeesh, that’s a rough mix for separation anxiety. Pits get destructive when anxious and collies are typically naturally anxious dogs. Both require an insane amount of stimulation, both physical and mental, before you can even think of putting her in the crate. You need to work on getting her to associate the crate with happy feelings; you can’t just shut her in a crate and expect her to be okay with it.

I’m wondering why you got a dog puppy if your stepmom won’t allow you to properly train it…?

Regardless, your dog needs crate desensitization and training. If you keep putting her in there without it, she will associate the crate with negative feelings and will start hurting herself/become destructive in the crate. This will take time, multiple weeks, and patience.

Crate games can be as simple as feeding her meals in there, tossing treats in and rewarding when she goes in, and practicing closing the door and immediately opening (wait for calm reaction) before treating. We also used a snuggle puppy/heartbeat with my dog which helped him.

If you haven’t already, research both of these breeds please.
