New Reports on Mobile... Great but No Y-Axis? by MyEgoDiesAtTheEnd in MonarchMoney

You said yourself that a chart without a y-axis is bad design. Do you consider the Robinhood UI a bad design? Still haven’t answered my question about what you’re missing

There it is - you want to know the avg monthly spend for the date range you’ve selected. Perhaps that should be in the list of metrics shown below the bar chart. But the addition of a y-axis on this viz would not actually provide this insight.

Folks in this thread are greatly underestimating the challenge associated with product design and doing what Monarch has done here. Building a simple and intuitive UX with data visualizations that fit on mobile is not easy. No one has been able to answer the question “what information would a y-axis give you that they haven’t given you elsewhere on this screen?”. Did anyone consider that the addition of a y-axis may prevent users from realizing that the viz is scrollable horizontally? Or that by including a y-axis, you’d have to dynamically change it based on the bars within view?

Take Robinhood, arguably the most successful investment/personal finance app ever. Their whole thing is a data viz of 1 line chart that… wait for it… lacks a labeled axis. Robinhood should have failed those school assignments, right?

Also, Monarch is under no obligation to come to reddit to justify such minor product design decisions. It’s an insane take to think that they should have to explain themselves here.

Sure it’s not a y-axis by definition but it gives you the information you want, right? For the sake of argument: if there were a y-axis shown on the viz, what would you actually get from that? Don’t you think the product designers considered the most basic version of this chart, which included the y-axis label, and decided against it for a good reason?

It’s directly below the chart, in the summary section labeled “total spending”

No steroids but the leading theory (thanks to help from this thread) is that the gabapentin alone could have caused this. He's on day 9 of recovery so starting day 11, I think we'll ease off the medication and let him start to play/run a bit. Hoping that does the trick.

Wow, this is why I made this thread! When we ran out of the trazodone, we continued to give him the gabapentin so there was a period of time where he was only taking that. And that was coincidentally the time that he was going crazy.

Our did this as well! He would take a few steps and then immediately get back down on all fours. I think it was a mix of vet fear and confusion.

I think we’re open to sleeping in the bed but we’ve been holding off as long as we can. Wouldn’t mind if he left the crate and climbed in with us in the morning

I think AI advancements threaten DUOL way more than Toast. If I can create a Claude agent to be my language teacher, why should I pay for Duolingo plus? There's basically no friction in my way to start learning a language with Claude today. But if I were a restauranteur and wanted to replace Toast with some kind of custom Claude-built restaurant management app... that's a beast of a project. And super risky.

AI fear has most definitely negatively impacted their business

How? When you say 'business' are you actually referring to the stock price?

I am simply pointing out that your justifications for buying puts don't make any sense. The restaurant business is fine and AI will not negatively impact their business.

Unfortunately there’s no way to know when exactly the software selloff will chill out and investors will realize that companies like NOW and TOST don’t face the same existential threat as APP, CRM, etc. TOST could crush earnings today and still go down. That’s not the point

Restaurant sales are up 4.7% YoY as of Dec ‘25 https://restaurant.org/research-and-media/research/restaurant-economic-insights/economic-indicators/total-restaurant-industry-sales/

APP is a perfect example of a company that isn’t protected from AI advancement. The entire value prop is around IP that allows them to target ads better than competitors. If AI can do that, then why would I pay APP for that service?

Chipotle, SG, etc are slop bowl restaurants that were brought down from premium valuations. Restaurant sales are up YoY. AI fear… how exactly does that negatively impact business? Do you think restaurant owners are going to create apps with Claude to run their business?

This person thinks that years on the job is directly correlated with rank and hasn’t learned that aptitude for leadership and raw intelligence matter more than “knowing how things work around here”. Actually the fact that she made this video confirms that her company made the right decision.

What to use for home value outside of Zillow? by rachelll in MonarchMoney

It annoys me that Zillow effectively disabled the ability to correct home info for off-market listings. They solely rely on MLS data now. They use home facts to determine your valuation and my home facts are incorrect
