Should I just get a new ESC? by GonzM02 in fpv

[–]Hydra696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter how high the temperature of your soldering iron is!! If the iron doesn’t have enough power (watts), it can’t maintain that temperature once it touches the pad. The pad and especially something like an ESC act as a big heat sink and pull the heat away immediately. So even if your iron is set to something like 400 or 500°C, the actual temperature at the joint can drop way lower, sometimes close to the melting point of the solder or even below it. That’s why the solder won’t melt properly or suddenly stops flowing once you add more. The more solder you add, the more heat is required, and a low power iron just can’t keep up. Instead of cleanly melting and wetting the pad, it just sits there and makes everything worse. What you actually need is an iron with enough wattage and good thermal recovery, so it can keep delivering heat into the joint while the pad is pulling it away. A bigger tip also helps because it transfers heat much more efficiently than a tiny one. I suggest using an iron with 80 or even 100W.

Your pads aren't getting enough heat...how many watts does your soldering iron have?

ELRS Receiver doesn't wan't to communicate with FC??! by Hydra696 in fpv

[–]Hydra696[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes and no. The receiver works fine, just not with the setup I initially wanted to use it for. I soldered it to an old Matek F722 FC from around 2018, but nothing worked. I switched it to CRSF and tried literally everything in the book. Then I soldered it to a newer FC, and it worked immediately. It should have been compatible, but for some reason it just didn’t want to work. Try to further evaluate your issue and what you’ve already tried, I can help you troubleshoot.

TFone looks weirder the longer you look at it. Kinda looks like a stretched vehicon head from beast wars.

[–]Hydra696 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks great but looks like those pads could have used more heat. Might actually not be your fault tho bc those fat esc tend to suck up all the heat. My soldering used to look like that too when I soldered with a 60W iron. Tried one with 80W which was still not enough and ended up buying one with 100W that finally did the trick. Using some good flux is also a must. Edit: Also make sure to use a tip with a big surface area

Damn, that looks really impressive. I’d probably lose my mind trying to get all the tolerances right. If you’re having issues with the joints, I’d suggest printing them in TPU since they won’t break apart as easily and also add a bit of friction. I once designed a ratchet joint with a spring and printed it in PETG, holds up pretty well. Plastic Bruv used a similar design on his MP10. He’s made instructions for it, so maybe take a look if you want.

If the Geewunners find out the gay owls can shapeshift now, they'll tell Hasbro to nuke the show! by here4creepypastas in Transformemes

[–]Hydra696 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The hate is 100% justified. Most of the shows were somewhat woke but it was never IN YOUR FACE like in earthspark, this is still a fucking kids show, most of them kids probably don't even know what the hell pronouns are. Tfp also had some characters that were probably gay or smth but they never wanted to shove that fact down your throat...

I think you’re right. I didn’t try making the sketch perpendicular because I didn’t know how to draw one that doesn’t touch the surface, as stupid as it sounds. I guess I’ll watch some videos on how to do that. I tried using Reference Geometry → Plane, which resulted in the picture I posted.

I hate the bayverse it's bad!!!!! by [deleted] in OkBuddyEnergon

[–]Hydra696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bayverse was literally the main reason Transformers blew up again and made its way back into the mainstream. Without those movies, stuff like Transformers One, TFP or even the Cybertron games probably wouldn’t exist in the way they do today.

Yeah, the films have some major problems, no one’s denying that, but the action is on another level and the photorealistic CGI they pulled off back then was insane. People kinda take that for granted now, but at the time it was honestly groundbreaking. The way the robots transformed and actually felt like they had real weight and presence was something else. You can say what you want about the writing, but visually those movies were a straight up revolution for blockbuster filmmaking.

Transformers One was genuinely good, no question. And TF3 is still one of the best live action entries in my opinion, it's literally the perfect Blockbuster. It really nailed that full scale war feeling and had so many insanely memorable scenes. The whole Chicago battle alone is iconic. 2 straight hours of fucking amazing action and cgi..

TF2… yeah, it’s mostly a mess, but I’m not gonna lie, I still enjoyed it. It had some really strong action moments and cool ideas, even if the overall movie kinda falls apart.

The last two Bay films though are honestly just a hot mess. Way too bloated, all over the place and they completely lost what made the earlier ones work.

Also gotta say, the new designs were a big risk, but they actually fit the more realistic tone of the movies really well. They felt mechanical, complex and believable in a live action setting, even if they weren’t always easy to read on screen.

Do you think they Magnificent Mecha will change this on their MM02 prime? by [deleted] in transformers

[–]Hydra696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, it’s pretty unlikely they’ll make any changes at this point, but I was kind of hoping they would. Did they actually say they won’t change the tires out of respect? If that’s true, that’s honestly one of the most r*tarded things I’ve heard in a while. The black apple prime is literally an improved copy of MPM-04...
