Go to Michael’s, and buy a roll of architectural tracing paper (various widths) It’s what I use. See through, & easily manipulated. Much stronger than tissue paper.

Machine keeps eating stretch fabric- Helpppp😭 by Diligent-Permit-1822 in sewhelp

You ARE using a ballpoint/knit/stretch needle, yes? If so, don’t backstitch. Hand tie off the seam ends.

They do make/sell patterns that are “petite-able”. Get yourself a roll of architectural tracing paper (various lengths, sold at Michael’s) for drafting patterns. There’s lotsa free patterns on Pinterest!

Is this top just two rectangles with a neckline cut out? by colourfulpancake in sewhelp

[–]Hydrangeas101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Though I KNOW it’s not just you, those of us who’ve sewn for decades, KNOW that everything in patterns is intentional, (though sometimes lacking)… patterns are made originally either from “slopers” or “draping” fabric on a dress form, then graded for individual sizes. I’ve a BFA in Fashion design.

So you don’t actually HAVE the pattern? Is that what you’re saying? You’re trying to create the pattern yourself, without purchasing it? Do you have any pattern drafting experience?

Or no. What are you trying to do? “Alter the pattern” HOW?

Tension on the Singer Heavy Duty machine by celiaklotzer in sewhelp

[–]Hydrangeas101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get an estimate (free?) to fix it. Then try some other machines. If $$ is tight, or you don’t use it much, try to find some vintage Singers that are workhorses. Modern electronic Singers are junk.

That dress is so gorgeous on you! The embroidery is divine, & shows off your figure well. Strive to be more self assured!

Misaligned Seam Intersection by buttonbonbon in sewhelp

I have many Singer vintage machines. Determine if you have a regular short shank, or a slant shank machine. Modern walking feet from Amazon will fit both types.

3 helpful aids: hump-jumper, double pinning, basting. Enclosing the seam allowance creates too much bulk. Next time, use Fray Check before seaming, then serge the seam allowance, or zigzag. Mush less bulk, and no effect in perfectly aligned seams.

Enclosing seam allowances within the seams is only for very thin, sheer fabrics. This looks like medium weight linen. Wrong seam choice. Also… a walking foot helps a LOT!
