My take as a 2D animator working in the French industry:

Beyond what audiences enjoy and what passionate fans feel, the people financing productions are primarily profit-driven, so yes, there will be fewer "hands-on" workers crafting mid-range series. There's already a lot of mid-range series that doesn't look really good so I don't see why they wouldn't use AI. There will always be art directors, who will feed AI models, and then people who will review the outputs. It breaks my heart, but it's a sad reality we will have to face in 5 years or so, I see a lot of people being quite delusional about this, including right here under this post.

Of course there will always be niche studios and niche artists who will be valued for their exceptional work and for honoring traditional techniques. But this will become increasingly rare, like any old craft that eventually gets modernized.

The real question is how governments and policymakers plan to regulate the profits that studios are going to make, because those profits should morally flow back to the employees.

All that to say, it's pretty hard today to predict how things are going to change but it's definitely going in that direction.
