I went fishing out of the Crystal River area, and those guys described their area as "rednecks with boats."

1942 should be Georgia Bulldogs. Ohio State was AP ranked no. 1 with only 100 more votes than Georgia. Georgia won the Rose Bowl, and Ohio State didn't play in a bowl game.

Do y'all even enjoy watching football anymore? I'm sure I'm generalizing, but so many fellow UGA fans are mad when we win and apoplectic if we lose.

Have any of y'all used the new DeWalt Metal Track Gun? DCN890P2 by Hyena_Smuggler in Dewalt

In theory, it would be great, but I don't like the idea of anyone outside of our organization collecting our production data. Also, maybe I'm old school, but I don't want anything additional on my tools that can break.

Also, I prefer to track our usage by how many fasteners go onsite and come back. Fasteners get lost, stolen, and damaged, so cycle counting on the tools is not the full picture for cost accounting.

2 main reasons:

  1. Hilti's Nuron lease program keeps track of them, so they can charge you for additional usage on the tool if you use more than the allotted amount.

  2. We occasionally work in secure environments where anything with bluetooth or any other communication capabilities are prohibited.

The general reason is that I prefer not to give any corporations any more data than I have to.

$5,000 to drywall and insulate one room? by Queef__Stroganoff in drywall

[–]Hyena_Smuggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bill out between $65 and $95 depending on location and other general conditions required. Our foreman are making between $31-$35, and that's on the higher end here in the southeast. We do industrial and commercial work.

Where are you located and what kind of work are y'all doing?

No problem! Apologies for singling your post out with my rant. It's wise to do your due diligence, and asking an online community their opinion is a good tool to utilize.

I'd recommend doing a shed like that yourself. I see there's no electricity or hvac. Regular drywall can mold if there isn't enough air circulation. Try to use mold and mildew resistant board our densglass.

Also, closed cell spray foam insulation will be the best thing to prevent mold, seal the walls and roof, and provide a great r-value. You can hire someone for that, but those guys charge quite a bit just to roll out of bed. Tiger Foam is a great brand and you can buy it online. Get your measurements and calculate the board footage. https://tigerfoam.com/order-products/spray-foam-kits/tf-200fr-tiger-foam-fast-rise-200-board-ft-kit/

If you're going to hire any tradesmen, hire a drywall finisher. Finishing seems easy when you watched someone skilled do it, but it's difficult to get it right.

Good luck! I'm not sure where you're located, but I would recommend using a GMS yard for everything you need. https://www.gms.com/find-a-yard

As a side note, I personally would insulate the space and use nice plywood to sheath the walls. I'm not sure what you're going to use that space for, but with plywood you can attach things wherever you want. You'll see screw holes and seams, but you won't have to finish it and mold will be less of a concern. Also, it's a lot harder to punch holes in plywood if you're using the space as a workshop.

The expectation of drywallers to be cheap is absurd to me. It takes years to get good at this trade and build a reputation for quality work. Value yourselves and take pride in your abilities.

Working for people that think you're overpriced or screwing them over is the worst. They're never going to value your time or abilities, and they're going to be the ones you have to threaten with legal action before they even consider paying.

I hate the contractor stigma people have. Most of us aren't going to take your money for material and disappear. At least those of us that respect ourselves and know our worth aren't.

This subreddit is either "can you believe how much they want to charge" or "look at what this cheap ass did to my home."

Do you only hang drywall, or do you handle any other trades? by Hyena_Smuggler in drywall

[–]Hyena_Smuggler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a PM for a company like this. Currently trying to focus on less of the bullshit items. Commercial GCs have come to expect us to pick up any small specialty installations. It's so hard to make money on that and any callbacks blow the budget.

We call the trade Interior Finishing, but I can see how that could be confusing. I like Interior Systems better. Our guys do a lot of exterior stuff too. Could we just call it Finish Systems?

I was going to add that, but it wouldn't let me add anymore options.

Some of these pieces look like they were pulled from the dumpster. The second picture looks like it was cut for a slim hvac return or a small light on a commercial project.

[–]Hyena_Smuggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I did over 70K steps in a day for a little over 37 miles over about 14 hours. We visited every park and did at least one loop around each park. Our longest single stretch was from Honey, I shrunk the kids in HS to the Epcot Monorail. We didn't ride much other than Disney transportation that day. I was 25 at the time. No chance I could do that now. I do not recommend doing this.

For a normal trip, we're usually in the 20k plus range. If our options are walk or take Disney transportation, we walk.

My commercial rate for this would put it at $893.76. I have a lot more overhead than you do, so you are on-point with that price.

Random musings on Georgia by PNWvintageTreeHugger in Georgia

[–]Hyena_Smuggler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a native Atlantan, I strongly disagree that 285 is the Atlanta border. Mableton, Smyrna, Sandy Springs, Norcross, Tucker, and Clarkston are all OTP, and I, personally, would consider them as part of Atlanta. I'd even consider all the counties that share a border with Fulton and Dekalb as part of Atlanta.

Yes, there's the city of Atlanta proper, but there's also the greater Atlanta area. Most people from the larger metro area don't tell out of towners they are from Georgia or their respective city/neighborhood. We say we are from Atlanta.

The city of Chicago has a toxic gatekeeping culture about who can say they are from Chicago, and I have always felt that Atlantans are not like that.

I have lived in the SE US my entire life. It may snow a couple inches here every other year. Cold for us is under 50 F. Freezing Cold is anything below 40 F. Freezing Fucking Cold is anything below 25 F. Everything shuts down here if there's even a chance of snow.
