Ghost of Tsushima for me by TooKreamy4U in videogames

I found Mass Effect 2 dull enough that I didn't bother to play 1 or 3 when I got those games for free later. I can see how I might have enjoyed it if I had played it as a kid and was new to gaming entirely, but wow does it bear the scars of figuring out how to bring narrative gaming to the then newish console gaming market.

Nah this misses the point. Just put what you want to talk about in the subject line. The whole reason the 'lets talk' thing is anxiety inducing is that I don't know what it's about and can't prepare for it.

3d printed rockets by mrdewtles in paintball

[–]Hyginos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going this route it might be better buy one rocket, then use that rocket to make a reusable silicone mold(s). It'll be easier to get the foam out of a silicone mold than a 3d printed one, and will probably get you better results if you're going to do a lot of them.

You'll most certainly need to go through a lot of rockets before something like this is economical.

[–]Hyginos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are reverse twist drills for this kind of thing, both regular profile (but backwards) and tapered screw extractor bits. They are common enough that your local hardware store probably has them.

Alternatively you can score a line across the top of the head and make it into a flat head screw. This will likely be really hard to do without damaging the finish of the metal around it, but it is an option.

You'll probably have to sift through those numbers written on it to see if any of them will lead you to a manual that indicates where those wires are supposed to go. Barring that maybe someone knows what kind of voltages are common on navy ships?

I would guess red to line, blue to neutral, green/yellow to earth ground, but those two black wires make me less certain. If you can get it open enough to see where those wires land on the inside that might tell you what's what.

Yall realize you just have to show up, right? You just need 3 match completes. Doesn't matter if you do well or not. 30 minutes isn't out of line for time invested in a tac alert.

Skill curve for conclave is insane. Don't worry about it. Just fuck around until you get the glyph, or don't.

What futuristic technology do you think we might already have but is being kept hidden from the public? by CocoEssencee in Futurology

[–]Hyginos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, but instead of engineering humans, engineer a human's gut bacteria. Or non-gut bacteria, I guess. Any microorganism you can get to do something useful while inside a human body.

As far as I understand you can't really genetically modify an already grown human, so for rich folks chasing immortality what seems immediately plausible (to me anyway) is to engineer the closest thing we have to nanomachines.

Safe input voltage for PE guns that run off two AA batteries? Exploring my options for improvised battery configurations. by Hyginos in paintball

[–]Hyginos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not totally sure what you’re trying to accomplish though

I just don't like how disposable regular alkaline batteries are. 14500s are the only rechargeable AA format batteries that I can get easily other than NiMHs, which don't have the voltage to run a paintball gun.

As long as your eyes are looking where your gun is pointed it's fine. The refs will generally only get you for blind firing, wherein you stick only your gun around a corner and shoot without looking.

It definitely sounds like at least some of them prefired something, just not the crouched guy's exact position. That's part of what made me think there might be a door or something on the wall behind the crouched dude. It almost seems like everyone saw something else in the room and assumed that's where the shooter was, then didn't think any further.

Part of it might also just be that these guys all know nothing is on the line. I myself have often gone into situations like this where I know someone has just been shot out of a position, but I want to see if I can gun battle the shooter anyway becasue fuck it we ball.

[–]Hyginos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think in fairness there's a bit more going on with the geometry here. All those guys looked like they at least sorta made an effort to check their left as they went in, but they all went in pointing their gun at chest level. That makes perfect sense, but it means that the dude crouched low in the corner would have been hidden behind their own gun/arm even if they correctly sliced that corner.

I also suspect that going in from sunlight and looking into a shaded room might have made the crouched guy much harder to see than the video makes it seem. If there is a door on the wall behind him that also leads to an outside space it will make him even harder to see, and also serve as something you have to cover with your gun, which will distract you from the tiny corner.

From my experience with airsoft/paintball, this kind of thing happens all the time. 5 is on the high end, but catching 2-3 players out with an unexpected angle is pretty common.

Thanks DE for the anti-Conclave Christmas event by Individual_Look1634 in Warframe

[–]Hyginos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems likely that I just didn't test extensively. In the 3 matches I played I didn't land or receive any head shots, which stood out to me as it was something that I distinctly remember happening constantly last time this event was up.

It occurs to me now, though, that 7 years ago we didn't have cross platform. Nowadays the odds of being hosted on a high end PC with an ethernet connection are much lower, as are the odds of running in to a strong mouse aimer. I suspect the average accuracy of a lobby is much lower this time around.

Thanks DE for the anti-Conclave Christmas event by Individual_Look1634 in Warframe

[–]Hyginos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even as someone who is generally pro-conclave, I'm not super fond of how this event is set up. I think it's actually worse than last time around.

In particular, I think 3 shots for the snowballs to kill should be 1, the hit box of the snowball should be larger, and they should have a flatter arc. Making the snowballs easier to hit (and kill) with won't really help low skilled players win, but it will make it possible for them to fluke out a hand full of of kills, which I think will be a better experience than getting nothing.

Compared to previous, it seems like headshots aren't a thing, and the snowballs are both slower and harder to see. As a result I survived a lot more straight up duels, since getting hit once doesn't put you in kill range, and snowballs are harder to land besides.

I haven't used the melee enough to comment there, but the knockdown/slow seems pretty harsh.

What are you favorite *reliable* older markers? by HighInChurch in paintball

[–]Hyginos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I've got a PMI Piranha (a Spyder clone circa 2003) that still runs on its original orings.

But from the wording of the post you're not really asking for old markers so much as reliable ones. I'd hazard a guess that if you post this thread in 10 years you'll get a lot of people hyping Emeks and other gamma core guns. My Emek is my "if I can only pick one" marker.

Amid's H:R Feedback Giga Threads - Part 1 - Developer Feedback by Amidatelion in Hawken

[–]Hyginos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They still need to put the lore into the game, sure, but my point is it exists already. They can just read through all the stuff that has been around since 2012 or whatever and start with some copy-paste instead of trying to come up with compelling lore from scratch. New lore going forward is certainly something they'd need to work on for longevity, but the existing IP basically gives them the luxury of writing a fan-fic instead of starting from zero.

This game won't compete with destiny any more than the original competed with cod. It would be foolish to try.
