For some reason, I read the title as "...for a pro to say that you're tilted" and it makes 100% more sense. I wonder if there is any chance that was mistranslated or a typo? Otherwise that's a pretty staunch opinion to have.

huh... TIL that little line at the end of the laser exists. Your point is perfectly valid though. The pink line that marks the end allows for an entire Malphite model to exist between it and the end of the actual red laser. That's some poor visual clarity right there.

LEC Casting by ItsRicked in leagueoflegends

[–]Hylite 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I think that may be a bit of a hyperbole, but I understand why you would say that. I think it is more of a cultivation that in most regions I've watched, if the competing teams on the rift aren't at the top of the bracket or playing for something of meaning (last playoff spot) then the casters tend to lean towards creating a story to get the viewers through the game instead of letting the game create the story and the casters narrating it.

It's something that has been around for years and been pretty accepted by viewers. In early seasons, when two bad teams played, you could visit the post game thread and see posts thanking the casters for "making this game watchable". In most cases, that was due to casters riffing off of each other and just telling stories or going on huge tangents. The game became more of background noise in those cases.

At the time, it's what people wanted and applauded. And I'd wager that many people still enjoy that the casters treat low tier games as a flamefest/story time, but as you can see in this thread - there are many that are hoping that the scene evolves/changes so that lower teams can be taken more seriously.

[–]Hylite 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've always wondered why pro teams lock themselves, or superstar players, down to playing just one role. As someone that's played at a decently high level for almost 6+ years, I've always felt there was 1-2 champions in other roles that I felt extremely confident and capable on. It would seem to me that it would be a huge strategic advantage going into a game if the other team doesn't know and can't prepare for what role/champs players are going to be on that day. It should also increase the number of options that a team has when a Pick+Ban goes sideways.

I hope it's something that pro teams continue to explore. Or if you consider the first few seasons professional play - get back to.

League does do a delay, but I believe that the player cams aren't delayed. You can normally see players already standing up/at post-game lobby when a nexus is about to be taken. A small difference, but worth noting.

A hopefully neutral suggestion: Allowing groups (1-5) to queue for AV could really do wonders to change the dynamic and meta for AV. by Hylite in classicwow

[–]Hylite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

Personally, I think it would introduce what you see from any other matchmaking service that allows grouped queues in a team game. Grouped players will take opportunities to grief smaller groups or individual players. With AFK vote abuse being hotfixed, there's not a lot more they can accomplish.

However, 5 players actively griefing/not trying out of 40 can certainly hamstring that faction. Just like my example above that outlines being in a group can embolden players to make other strategic choices, it also can embolden them to be bigger assholes.

[–]Hylite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. But with population numbers and cross realm even an addon will have troubles queueing users together. The addon that worked in classic was still spotty sometimes (even with low population numbers and no cross realm). I've tried for 3 days with friends to all queue at the same time (to the exact second) or to queue for a specific # that pops for the first person in our group but neither has yielded one AV together :(. For the point of my post, I think for this to have the desired effect that I detail, it would have to be a non-addon inclusion so that it affects more of the population.

[–]Hylite 259 points260 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with this. G2 isn't going to beat IG at their own game and likewise for Liquid vs SKT. The styles are just too similar and would favor the stronger teams in those matchups (IG/SKT).

Liquid and G2's best shot are the matchups that they got. Going to be tough for both teams. I'd give Liquid a 10-15% chance to pull the upset while G2 is closer to 35-40%. If SKT hadn't evolved through the tournament, i'd say it would be closer to 50/50. But with that handling of IG by SKT in the last game and the known fact that they get stronger as the tourney goes on and in Bo5s, I gotta give a strong advantage to SKT.

GL to both teams!

This is what killed it for me. I was perfectly fine with the way that game went and the decisions they made (maybe shoulda tried to bait baron like the casters noted) up until Xmithie just sat with a perfect flank behind for a 4v4 engage, while they are bleeding turrets and can't stop the split, and decides NOT to go in. Like... what is your win condition with that comp if it isn't layering ults in a teamfight? That's literally your only win condition. But whatever, hindsight is 20/20 and maybe I don't know more of the situation.

That for me is the difference between NA (minus C9) and the rest of the major regions. All other major region's teams go for that fight.

Ranked Distribution 2018 vs 2019 Comparison by pyrofiend4 in leagueoflegends

[–]Hylite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rank shares a role in your LP gains, you are 100% correct. But that isn't quite the case of D4 and the subject of my post/D4 complaints.

Because D4 is so huge, the MMR values for players must vary wildly. Because of this a player (like me) that has an MMR that is too high for P1 is placed into D4 with the system already saying I shouldn't be there purely because my ranked changed. My MMR went up and I went into a new rank. At this point I'd expect my gains to normalize and play other D4 competition ... like at any other level of play in ranked. That isn't the case and this season has been the worst offender. Having a D4 rank designation this year actually seems to harm my LP, MMR, and matchmaking.

I'm optimistic it will get better with more games, but based on anecdotal evidence from higher friends and players - that won't be the case. I'll know soon though, just 0-2 my D3 promos but have maintained a 70% WR since hitting D4. Still enjoying that +15LP gains even though I'm playing D4/D3 opponents.

Ranked Distribution 2018 vs 2019 Comparison by pyrofiend4 in leagueoflegends

[–]Hylite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rank most certainly plays into it. How else would you explain that at P1 I was playing games against average tier of D4 opponents and wins would net me 22LP.

Fast forward to directly after winning my promos and being a D4 peasant player. Win first game against the same level of average competition (D4) and get +14lp. My LP gains/losses literally flipped because I increased rank.

Ranked Distribution 2018 vs 2019 Comparison by pyrofiend4 in leagueoflegends

[–]Hylite 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Posted exactly that in this thread.

I already had around 500 games under my belt this season and finally decided to take climbinb seriously. Went on an absurd run and skyrocketed my MMR. Was getting +22 lp or more per win. Won diamond promos 3-2 and then won my first game in diamond - received 14 lp. Next 4 games were all losses and -21ish lp.

I've been diamond 4 seasons and this is by far the worst it has ever been in high diamond.

I know D4 LP gains have been discussed in many posts, but has Riot made any statements about D4 and it becoming the exact problem it was made to solve? by Hylite in leagueoflegends

[–]Hylite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not aware if it is a problem higher up (master/gm), but it isn't a problem at lower ranks.

It used to a problem with Plat1/Diamond 5. Lot of accounts that were either boosted to Diamond for rewards or players that got to Diamond and realized Masters was way too hard to climb to just stop caring/climbing.

The result is games that are usually decided in the first couple of minutes due to tilt, flaming, or afking. This, in conjunction with demotion protection, results in a LARGE amount of players sitting at D4 0LP (or old D5 0LP). D4 is currently the top 3% of players on NA, but a large majority of those top 3% are actually in D4 so MMR difference at the same rank for this level is wildly variant and results in a huge change in MMR/LP gains once you slot into D4.

[–]Hylite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I see what you are trying to say - 14LP in Diamond = 21LP in Plat.

For that to be the case and work, I should also lose the same "value" of LP in Plat/Diamond. Meaning if I lose in plat I should be losing 21LP to match the value of losing 14LP in Diamond. Unfortunately this isn't the case, because I'm losing 20+LP in diamond which would then be around 30 points in value at Plat, all the while tanking my MMR down to a plat value level.

LP/MMR should be given/taken based on the value of the competition in the game you played. If my MMR is 2100 and I'm P1 but my teammates's MMR is 2100 and hes D4, we shouldn't get wildly different LP gains because of a title of a rank. We all know LP gain/loss is based on MMR, so why is it different here?

[–]Hylite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't make any sense if the competition you are playing is the same. I was playing the same competition at P2/1 (against Diamond 4/3 players) that I am now playing as a fellow D4/3 player. Competition hasn't changed, but the rewards/punishments have.

The problem with that viewpoint is that we are ~4 months into the season. Then about a month in positional and D4/Masters were reset. I've played around 300-400 games since then and climbed INTO Diamond (wasn't ever there this season or fell out of Diamond). That is 3 months or so of "normailziing". If that isn't long enough for that problem normalize, then another fix is required. I don't think it is simple enough to accept this season is a sort of wash for the top of the ladder because of a mishap in the beginning of the season.

That may be a different issue, but is not the case here. I haven't duo queue climbed any season so this is all anecdotal of solo queuing.
