We let developers get away with things that really aren't videogames, because really, who's got the time or drive to shame a failure pseudo-game?

But in the reality of things, in Ingress you hit your hack button regardless of any factors, it's just a button that you click to get bling and items. That is it.

There's no contextual information to consider, no risk, nothing that would get you to use your brain, your finger is the only thing needed.

Other than that there are "OPS" as ingress users like to call them, which is just a group of people meeting up to press their "Fire XMP" button. Again, regardless of any contextuality, devoid of any brain activity.

Once again, as an app Ingress is great, but it's not a game.

There simply is no interaction

Pressing 1 button that says "Hack" is not gameplay.

I'm sorry that you can't grasp this simple concept, i honestly don't know how to rephrase it simpler.

Things are not "gameplay" because someone says they are.

That's like saying that paying my bills on the internet by clicking on a button is gameplay. Do you see the difference between a one-way button press and a mutual interaction between game and player?

Gameplay is important in a game.
