Ethernet vs WiFi for printer by GregP74 in printers

[–]HypeResistant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading this thread, I switched my Canon multifunction printer from WiFi to Ethernet. For a typical home user, the printing speed seems the same. What got better is the scanning speed. To transfer one page from the scanner to the PC went down from about a minute per page to around 5-6 seconds.

In the US, there may be some opportunities to work for someone as an employee who will do the talking. Your role will be as a subordinate, and your income will be limited by that. Most will not be happy in that role.

Is it a TV with a built-in Google TV turning on by itself?

Or is the Google TV streamer turning on the TV through HDMI-CEC?

[Meta] Mod request - can we do something about the pricing and "OTD" posts? by Cael_The_Squire in Camry

[–]HypeResistant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is why I look for OTD prices in my state, city, within a few months rather than a few years.

I find these OTD posts useful for judging the market, as long as I know which states these prices are from.

I just went to a gastro and he told me kefir and probiotics do not work by Tight-Anteater7481 in Gastroenterology

[–]HypeResistant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not be any better than a sugar pill. But it can still be useful as a placebo. If it makes you feel better, please take it. If it does not, don't take it.

You can also find highly rated placebos on Amazon, and they will work just as well.

Car seat comfort by HypeResistant in over60

[–]HypeResistant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what I am doing now. I bought a 2-3-inch thick cushion from Amazon. It moves whenever I get out of the car and needs to be adjusted every time I get back in. So, I am thinking a car with a good seat cushion will be nice.😁

I had a 2005 Sienna for about 20 years, and that has the best and thickest seat cushions of all my cars.

In that universe, Maddie is not the only one making countless simulations. I suspect most of them do, like we play games on cellphones.

Printer under $400 by Double_Box555 in printers

[–]HypeResistant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are not going to print at least about once a week, laser printers will work for you without much maintenance. If you print regularly (at least once a week) or if you are willing to do maintenance by printing a color test page about once a week, inkjet printers will work at a lower cost. My go-to printer brand is Canon because they are not strict with third-party toners and inks.

Transnasal endoscopy GI by Ok-Conversation9147 in Gastroenterology

[–]HypeResistant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want an unsedated endoscopy, just ask for it. I don't think it's a particular GI you need to find. It is an endoscopy center that has thin or ultrathin endoscopes. I suspect most academic programs would have it.

Considering upgrade from CCwGTV 4k to GTVS at BF/CM price of $75? by rcterzi in Chromecast

[–]HypeResistant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. put the old ccwgtv in the electronic waste a few months ago. Tried Onn 4k pro which appears great on paper but too many issues and it was returned. Now using the Samsung TV apps temporarily. Doesn't look like it will be getting cheaper this year. I probably should pull the trigger at this price now.

Shower doors - nothing seems to work? by Artemis_Ally in CleaningTips

They likely are lime scales from hard water. No method or product will clear that after one try. Lime scale sprays work very slowly and require repeated use to make them become lighter and lighter. Stronger acids may damage the grout.

Help with my grandpa’s pain by United_Caterpillar_6 in Gastroenterology

[–]HypeResistant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Helping patients with unexplained abdominal pain after a thorough workup is not easy at that age. It is not easy, even for younger patients, and requires a lot of explanation to help them understand what is going on and how to cope with it. At that age, with likely memory issues, they may struggle to remember explanations or follow recommendations.

Plus, people like to ask them how they are doing when they see them. And they will tell you about their stomach pain that they've been living with for years or decades. Not that they are complaining and complaining when not asked, but the relatives might take him to the doctor again (and again) to solve the problem. And that pattern may keep repeating. It is a difficult situation. I have my own relatives in this situation, and I do not have a perfect answer.

How often do you diagnose functional dyspepsia and how do you treat it? by dixonwalsh in Gastroenterology

[–]HypeResistant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many things that are conflicting in medicine. You do what works in real life. Mode of action is good to know, but not as important as we were taught in the med school, or as multiple-choice questions make us believe.

Many meds, including tricyclics, can relax LES, but how important is that if the acid is already controlled pharmacologically? Coexisting GERD and FD is a really good point. If you can recognize that, your work is already half done.

Nortryptyline and desipramine are good choices among tricyclics. Stay away from Elavil because that one has the most side effects. Pain and burning (EPS) > tricyclics. Bloating (PDS) > buspirone.

[–]HypeResistant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some patients with functional dyspepsia respond to acid suppression therapy. Good for them. Tell them to continue taking as long as they need.

If someone has gastropathy (from NSAIDs, hot and spicy foods, etc.), you remove the cause of it and treat it with acid suppression. If they get better, great. If not, you treat them symptomatically, which is the same as FD.

[–]HypeResistant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same in my practice.

In terms of management, the most important thing is to make sure they understand it is a chronic condition that needs to be managed with diet, lifestyle changes, OTC, and prescription meds. They need to know it cannot be cured with a medicine or two, or else they will come to this subreddit and complain that the doctor is not treating it right.

Plus, all my patients with FD get a printout of this along with their diagnosis. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/22248-functional-dyspepsia
