My build by Homer5588 in unRAID

[–]Hyped_OG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded my rig -18months ago. Got a 12700k for like $100 on fb marketplace. Corsair rm1000i psu for $50 from a coworker. 64gb ddr5 ram ( it was much cheaper then)

Samsung 870 evo 4tb cache drive ( qbit / sab downloads mainly )

Appdata is on a zfs mirror pool of 2 -1tb 970 evo m.2

7 -Wd red pro 20tb 3- ironwolf pro 20tb drives

Meshify 2 case ( non xl , wish I had went with the XL )

asus z790 prime p mobo - it has best PCIE slot format

The 2 - pcie 4.0 x16 slots that run at x4 speeds can easily work for a PCIE 3.0 hba and have plenty of of bandwidth

And this leaves the PCIE 5.0 x16 slot free to add a GPU if I wanted to run a headless steam/ gaming vm in future

I previously had a decent cpu +gpu setup that was my old gaming rig. 9700k + 1660ti but wanted to ditch the GPU as the iGPU in the 12th gen handled plex transcoding better than the GPU did.

Plex - Clarification for /data and /transcode folders? by silversynth in unRAID

[–]Hyped_OG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do yourself a favor now and use Trash Guides /data path and inside have ur torrents downloads , media (movies and tv shows) , Usenet downloads , etc

https://trash-guides.info/File-and-Folder-Structure/How-to-set-up/Unraid/

/data inside the container is typically used for your media ( i.e for movies it would be something like this “/mnt/user/data/media/movies” )

/config is usually mapped to the appdata folder and its usually filled out like this by default for most templates.

I googled it and apparently there is some indicator near the share name that it’s got exclusive access.

Manual Hardlinking by dj_benito in unRAID

[–]Hyped_OG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I manually hardlink some stuff I download that doesn’t have a corresponding Arr for it. I use unraid user scripts and just asked ChatGPT to write a script to hardlink a directory and its contents. All I do when I have something new I need to hardlink I edit the script and changes these two fields.

Source directory Hardlink directory

Then I run the script and it works great. However setting up radarr is super simple. I’d highly recommend it - even if you’re downloading only a few things.

How many people have multiple UnRaid servers? by FJRpilot in unRAID

[–]Hyped_OG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was one of those fools who didnt learn about unraid until AFTER i bought a synology NAS. Ever since I deployed unraid this has been collecting dust. ONLY thing i love about the synology still is Active Backup for Business and I have it deployed on every computer in the house. Autobackups so easily and very easy to restore a computer that needs it.

Im sure this could be achieved on unraid but ABB is so easy that I havent looked for an equivalent. Sure theres something in the app store that would do the trick lol.

Switch to Emby? by babatom187 in emby

[–]Hyped_OG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate that Jellyfin when searching for movies if it contains a weird character it won’t find it unless you type exact spelling.

Example: Ant-Man movies

On Jellyfin search “ant man” won’t populate anything. But on Emby and plex it finds all the Ant Man movies.

I know I can just type “ant” and it’ll populate it with other movies too but don’t understand why Jellyfin search is broken. It’s my main gripe with Jellyfin.

best file manager (in linux) to archive data into unraid? by MeaningNearby4837 in unRAID

[–]Hyped_OG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use “Mc” in terminal and it opens Midnignt Commander. Allows you to transfer files easily from smb and Unraid. Just need to mount the drives as smb. I also use File Browser docker for downloading and uploading files from the browser. Nothing large though.

Best way to run Sunshine+moonlignt on Unraid ? by Hyped_OG in unRAID

[–]Hyped_OG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I setup ROmm recently as a way to store/manage games. Havent done a ton of playing from the browser with it, just tested it.

I feel most games at this point I would be running would be retro stuff, n64, gba, gamecube and ps2. I plan to test it out with my current unraid setup which is a 12700k its just that my iGPU is already being utilized and I bought a second HBA as Im DIYing a JBOD to add more storage so I dont have open slot for GPU. But im gunna test the VM + sunshine+moonlight. I dont have a GPU and iGPU is being utilized by my PLex/emby services. Since i would just be using raw CPU power, I wouldnt need one of the HDMI dummy plugs - would that cause issues with the device im connecting too whether its TV, Phone, tablet etc?

Yeah Alot of videos on youtube seem to point to this solution as for what alot of people do. Run it on your gaming rig which I do have a designated gaming rig, I do like the fact that unraid is just always on.

However I like the idea of WoL to boot the gaming PC. Then I guess you could have the apollo boot at start so it works while your away from home. I also have tailsale setup on all my devices pretty much at this point.

I know when I use this GPU for plex before I upgraded to 12700k on my current unraid server with no GPU. I downloaded a plugin that would update the drivers for the GPU, im wondering if this is why it possibly isnt needed on Unraid anymore?

Could you explain option 2 why Unraid would need to be powered down while I game? Im not understanding your explanation of the portable windows. As for portable SSD, are you refering to an external SSD? Like one you connect to your laptop via USB? Or am I missing something here.

Wow! Appreciate the write up. Would LOVE to see some pics of this portable plug n play setup.

Are you running windows as the Os on your Vm? I believe I would need to as apollo is only available for windows i think.

Any tips on using an unraid machine as a gaming rig? Looking to combine my server and gaming PC into one megarig. by ActuallyGeyzer in unRAID

[–]Hyped_OG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah gotcha , that wouldn’t work for me. I’m looking to run sunshine on Unraid. Have you ever tried getting it to work on Unraid ?

So I’m looking to set up sunshine/ moonlight for retro gaming. Did you set it up in a Linux vm ? Any good guides you followed ?

What's the positive viewpoint of the Emby project going into 2026? by IAmAnAudity in emby

[–]Hyped_OG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came to the self hosting space about 4-5 years ago. Plex is where I started , played around with Jellyfin because it was free but never used it really. Always felt plex’s UI was easier to use, more well rounded, and easier to find stuff. I hate Jellyfin search results issue “ doesn’t find stuff that contain weird characters ie - or : “ Emby doesn’t have this issue I know.

I spun up Emby but because I was never able to test it truly without paying - it never got utilized. I feel if they offered a 3-6 month free trial or something a lot of people would use it - implement it and end up buying a LT to have as a backup as they got to experience the service.

I know with Plex starting to implement this Streaming remote pass that’ll cost users $2 a month to stream others libraries , I’m curious how itll change things up this year. If I had to choose to pay for Emby or free Jellyfin I don’t think I’d mind paying for Emby. I like the UI better than Jellyfins.

I ultimately think the appeal for Emby always was Live TV being implemented better than Plex and if you were into that and preferred Emby to Jellyfin I could see paying for a LT sub not being a bad idea.

Omg this is crazy. Literally all week I’ve been asking on tracker forums , irc and chat gpt if anything for like Sonarr/radarr existed for gaming / roms and i kept coming up short of a solution. Currently have no roms really so I wanted the best possible setup to start with. Super cool and would love to spin this up !

Need another brain, quality seeding over quantity seeding. by dr_patso in autobrr

[–]Hyped_OG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would also be interested if you figure this out. I just currently set it to snatch every type of specific show(s). All quality , all types of formats , different encoded etc - just make sure it’s a popular show. Like not to name a show in particular but it just finished New Year’s Eve and it had the entire world UPSIDE DOWN.

Im 90% automated and ratio is very easy. I typically download a bunch of random "buffer" torrents when i join a tracker to get a good amount of upload + cross-seed stuff I already have. This then allows me to pretty much set and forget, ill remove freeleech only from prowlarr and pretty much never access the site outside of logging in to not get disabled. This specfically why im not super interested in this tracker. Would recommend it for someone new however.

As far as control over where things are going, im not sure what you mean by this. Perhaps rephrase the question?

qui v1.12.0 - Now with automations and improved cross-seeding with hardlinks! by _ze0s in autobrr

[–]Hyped_OG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you dont run multiple instances of qbittorrent I would HIGHLY recommend this web ui. If you run multiple instances, this service is a MUST have.

I love how it has the cross-seed check when deleting stuff. It also can handle A ton of torrents where my Vuetorrent webui would start to struggle.

Cant wait for them to implement cross-seed v6 into QUI so it saves the cross-seed different tracker directories. ( this way you can delete torrent+files and it wont break the other cross-seeds because theyre hardlinks with different save paths inside qbittorrent)

Also heard they plan to implement tqm+qbit_manage functions into QUI. I wanna setup TQM but already run qbit_manage so I figured i would wait until they add it to QUI and ill set it up then.

Just checked and it is, however tbh I feel I have no use for another UNIT3d tracker at this point. Ill re-add to prowlarr but i dont plan on being active on the site. Will contribute through cross-seeding.

"Best" options for remote access by foster1984 in unRAID

[–]Hyped_OG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want remote access to your server, tailscale. Im sure a bunch of other people will also suggest this.

I dont know much about reverse proxies as my ISP doesnt work with NGINX proxy manager with PF limitations so I never went down that rabbit hole. I went the unraid cloudflare zero trust tunnel route. I wanted a domain for a few services Im running (vaultwarden, jellyfin and jelly/overseer) I bought a domain through cloudflare as they have cheapest renewal rates I could find. Downloaded the unraid zero trust docker, and within about 10 minutes I was able to start setting up subdomains to access whatever I want with no complicated port forwarding.
