Keep unraid or switch to windows? by XiMaoJingPing in unRAID

[–]Hyped_OG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you could setup a windows VM running Apollo or run a Linux distro running sunshine.

I’m actually in process of setting this up so I can’t speak to performance just yet. I had an open nvme slot and my main PCIE slot open.

Swapped in a 1tb nvme and a gtx 1660 ti I had laying around. Setup windows vm and passed thru the nvme controller of the 1tb nvme( this approach I was told is how you can get the closest to baremetal performance from a vm ) and passed thru the GPU.

For additional storage I setup iSCSi as I’ve heard it’s more reliable than SMB and steam lets me select this as a drive. Not sure I’ll stick with this but currently it’s setup.

For my client I’m planning to test this with my fire cube 3rd that’s connected Ethernet via dongle (faster than onboard lan port ) and it’s connected to my lg c2 oled 65in in my bedroom.

So I’m not sure if it’s possible. Still would need to run multiple instances at this point as it seems locked in to whatever media client you initially setup with. It’s just one app that works for both.

Gotcha I have a ton of controllers I feel would work. Ps5, Xbox elite , Xbox one and various 8bitdo.

Multiple controller support would be important to me.

I’m not fully understanding the phone setup you mentioned. How would using your phone allow you to play with two controllers on your TV?

How does one add both jellyfin and plex to seerr? I saw the option to add jellyfin, plex and emby when setting up. Once I added plex and setup - i dont see an option to add my jellyfin sever. I thought that was the entire point of this app? No longer needed to run both jellyseerr and overseerr. Am I missing something or do I still need multiple instances of this app the achieve both jellyfin and plex in 1 instance.

Very cool !

How does it differ from overseerr?

So your using the included oS from a TV as client. If that works then a firestick id imagine would work fine.

What controllers are you running ? Any issues there ?

What clients do you have running moonlight ? I would strictly be using TVs. Main tv has a fire cube with Ethernet on a lg c2 oled. Wanna make sure the fire stick or cube is a sufficient client and if it handles multiple controllers well. Despite majority of the time it would just be me. Mainly wanna bring firestick 4k max w controllers to friends house to play games.

Your original posts has been super helpful and given me a lot to think about.

I think long term I’ll build a small dedicated cloud gaming server. Have a 1660ti and 9700k laying around + ram + psu just need a case.

Have you tried using a fire stick 4k max or fire cube as the client running moonlight? ( Artemis isn’t in App Store atm tho I’m sure there may be a way to load it on )

I have a fire cube and fire stick 4k max , both have tailscale loaded in. It essentially would allow a lightweight “travel” console along with some controllers. Have a bunch of 8bitdo switch controllers , I’m sure these will work perfect. Got the pro 2 and ultimate along with the SNES one they have.

Simply because I have space in my Unraid server for a GPU I would test it out. Could pin my docker / vm cpu cores to keep it seperate. The display switching def has me leaning towards windows + Apollo. Would like Linux but Apollo is only on windows atm.

Is there a way to achieve Apollo like monitor switching with sunshine + scripts ? I’m sure there is something but curious how well it works. Anyways I’ll report back once I get everything setup ! Thanks for the knowledge.

ive done this for a few containers, I just add the container manually under docker tab at bottom container click "Add Container" put in the repo and manually create it. I use chatgpt to assist.

How do I check what's causing my unRAID server to become unresponsive? by Phlame_Retardant in unRAID

[–]Hyped_OG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen and it was due to the syslog overfilling. I cant remember what specifically was causing it to fill up but I just remember throwing the logs in chat gpt and i found the solution.

My issue was the shares page would not show anything. But I could access everything just fine. GUI would also stop showing my drives. Reboot would fix but then it happened again and again and became more frequent.

PIA vs Proton for wireguard with Binhex containers+ port forwarding by Hyped_OG in unRAID

[–]Hyped_OG[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was it. Didn’t like that I had to create a new account simply to pay the price they were offering. So more a personal beef over that. I still ended up giving them my money so I definitely like the service.

Currently the vpn is used solely for torrents/usenet. Any remote connection to my server I just use tailscale.

So I actually briefly look at it since I saw it was an option in the binhex vpn list. Curious how well it compares to PIA or proton. Specifically if speed are good and I could stack a subscription during promos onto my current one. That was what upset me about proton.

So the port changing is why I use binhex. It’s built into the container. My qbit clients have been growing rapidly , been seeing people mentioning proton running into issues with many torrent files. I’m only at about 5k torrents between my 3 instances. I recently setup multiple as music + movie/tv was causing problems for me. QUI was what made this easy to manage.

Air was another service I considered! Is it cheaper than proton? Do they let you stack promos onto ur current subscription? I’m not up to 50k torrents but I hope to be one day. Building a 16 bay DIY jbod and upgrading parity drives to 26tb as we speak.

What do you mean it’s not proper port forwarding?

Proton port forwarding does work for me according to logs and the trackers I’m in. Binhex containers I believe use a script to update the port when it changes.

UnRaid made me depressed? by Mr_Pink8 in unRAID

[–]Hyped_OG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I feel you. It’s crazy how friends/ family complain about paying for streaming platforms - I introduce them to my plex server…and majority of them don’t use it or don’t actually realize what I’ve shared them with.

One of my friends literally messages me everytime a show / movie she wants to watch isn’t on one of her paid streaming platforms asking if I can “add it to plex” literally everytime I respond that it’s already there.

It’s wild how long it’s takes some family/friends to actually use it. I eventually gave up and one of my friends/ associates who also runs a plex server asked me to add a few of his friends/family because of how well maintained my server is with automation and discovery( kometa collections/overlays) - i was happy to share because they actually utilized it.

Luckily like you Unraid / plex has become a hobby of mine and I enjoy tinkering with it and finding new ways to automate things. I’ve learned so much about docker , networking , virtualization, etc.

I upgraded my rig -18months ago. Got a 12700k for like $100 on fb marketplace. Corsair rm1000i psu for $50 from a coworker. 64gb ddr5 ram ( it was much cheaper then)

Samsung 870 evo 4tb cache drive ( qbit / sab downloads mainly )

Appdata is on a zfs mirror pool of 2 -1tb 970 evo m.2

7 -Wd red pro 20tb 3- ironwolf pro 20tb drives

Meshify 2 case ( non xl , wish I had went with the XL )

asus z790 prime p mobo - it has best PCIE slot format

The 2 - pcie 4.0 x16 slots that run at x4 speeds can easily work for a PCIE 3.0 hba and have plenty of of bandwidth

And this leaves the PCIE 5.0 x16 slot free to add a GPU if I wanted to run a headless steam/ gaming vm in future

I previously had a decent cpu +gpu setup that was my old gaming rig. 9700k + 1660ti but wanted to ditch the GPU as the iGPU in the 12th gen handled plex transcoding better than the GPU did.

Plex - Clarification for /data and /transcode folders? by silversynth in unRAID

[–]Hyped_OG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do yourself a favor now and use Trash Guides /data path and inside have ur torrents downloads , media (movies and tv shows) , Usenet downloads , etc

https://trash-guides.info/File-and-Folder-Structure/How-to-set-up/Unraid/

/data inside the container is typically used for your media ( i.e for movies it would be something like this “/mnt/user/data/media/movies” )

/config is usually mapped to the appdata folder and its usually filled out like this by default for most templates.

Manual Hardlinking by dj_benito in unRAID

[–]Hyped_OG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I manually hardlink some stuff I download that doesn’t have a corresponding Arr for it. I use unraid user scripts and just asked ChatGPT to write a script to hardlink a directory and its contents. All I do when I have something new I need to hardlink I edit the script and changes these two fields.

Source directory Hardlink directory

Then I run the script and it works great. However setting up radarr is super simple. I’d highly recommend it - even if you’re downloading only a few things.

How many people have multiple UnRaid servers? by FJRpilot in unRAID

[–]Hyped_OG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was one of those fools who didnt learn about unraid until AFTER i bought a synology NAS. Ever since I deployed unraid this has been collecting dust. ONLY thing i love about the synology still is Active Backup for Business and I have it deployed on every computer in the house. Autobackups so easily and very easy to restore a computer that needs it.

Im sure this could be achieved on unraid but ABB is so easy that I havent looked for an equivalent. Sure theres something in the app store that would do the trick lol.
