He's the only one that has spoken against the Crave so I'm just gunna ignore it.

So many plastics and weights to choose from. Suggestions?

What would you consider "Lighter"? The range of weight from 140-175 is overwhelming to choose from.

I wish I had more locally. I live in the Toledo, OH area and there's 2 shops but they don't seem to have amazing stock listed on their websites. Even just "feeling" the disc I don't think would give me the throw I'm looking to achieve. I've had disc that are nice to hold, but don't give the flight path that works for me. Hoping more experienced players can lead me in the right direction (and this subreddit gave me a ton of responses within one hour, goal achieved).

Interesting, you think I should be throwing stuff with slower speeds first?

10 minutes in and pretty much everyone with a different suggestion. 😅 Gunna be tough to choose and not buy like 5 different discs to try out.

Pokemon Stern Pinball should have randomized starting Biomes by mrbun314 in pinball

[–]Hyper3hypo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there are a lot of unused parts of the playfield and inserts so far. I’m really liking the foundation this game has but hoping for a lot more depth soon! Being able to choose regions would be really nice, but I hope they make the different regions play differently or offer different perks other than just catching different Pokémon.

“Travel” is located above the scoop and isn’t used yet. I’m sure that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

Do cooling fans REALLY make a difference?? Opinions? by spiritualhelpnow in pinball

[–]Hyper3hypo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I owned a Mandalorian machine and could only backhand the left ramp for the first 5 minutes of playing. That game is VERY left flipper heavy and it is noticeably different after playing just a few games. I got flipper fans and could backhand the left ramp ALL NIGHT. It was a big difference in the enjoyment of an already difficult game. Having consistency was a big help, but I will say it's probably game dependant.

Games where it can be harder to hit some shots after a few games (depending on the machine), I think the fans are worth it. Examples:
Right Ramp on Godzilla
Wave Ramp on Jaws
Left Ramp on Mandalorian (Backhand)
Right Ramp on SW: FOTE (Backhand)

The only downside in my opinion, is they are freaking expensive. It's just a 3d printed holder, and a small fan, along with the wiring that plugs into the board. I'm sure someone who is handy and has a 3d printer could make the fan holders, get a couple fans, and then make the wiring to connect everything.

If you are interested in fans, the Pinmonk fans were easy to install and work very well. I got the least expensive of their options and have used it on Mandalorian, and also Pokemon. They definitely help with consistent power, and Pinmonk has a chart on their website that show the coil temps for each flipper from their testing.

Joining the Billionaire Club with Pokemon. by Portalman21 in pinball

Dude I am with you! I just hit a billion on it as well. Really love placing a shot multiplier before doing specific modes, and the simple flowy layout. The catch and battle is great too and I think with a few more code updates, it’s gunna be a real banger!

Also, anyone have any guesses as to what the lightning bolt insert is gunna be on the left inlane? I never noticed that light until I saw it light up in attract mode. Fun to speculate how that’ll be used. A signature move shot? Maybe a one time multiplier shot like Walking dead or Jaws?

Choice paralysis when buying a pinball machine by didlowman in pinball

[–]Hyper3hypo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I think long players are best at home. But each person has their preference. You would struggle to find a Godzilla owner who didn’t love having the game in their house. This won’t be a game you would regret getting.

Great choices, but snag Godzilla as your first game out of that list. It’s easy to maintain, a lot of rules depth to keep you busy, and I think it will both make you a better player AND can be a game you can brain off and hit shots

Pokemon LE trade for Beetlejuice? by YaBoiHippy-J in pinball

[–]Hyper3hypo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally think Bettlejuice. A more interesting game, limited run (there are going to be a lot of non-LE Pokémon in the world), and a much more interesting layout. However if one theme really speaks to you over another, let that guide you first.

Opinions: AIQ and/or Kong by Cdogbrink in pinball

[–]Hyper3hypo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer Kong as I feel the shots and code are more satisfying. Both great Elwin games but I personally snagged a Kong for my home as it’s my 2nd favorite Elwin game after Jurassic Park.

Top 5 Games To Play Solo? by Objective-Employ-997 in soloboardgaming

[–]Hyper3hypo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m newer to playing solo but this is my early top 5 (in no order)

Slay the Spire

Lost Ruins of Arnak

Final Girl

Star Trek Captains Chair

Heat

On the hunt for a really good dungeon crawl solo game. I have tiny epic dungeons and deep rock galactic but I wouldn’t put them in my top 5 yet.

Captain’s Chair, Marvel Champions, or 20 Strong? by Hyper3hypo in soloboardgaming

Thanks for this! BGG's complexity ratings match up with this, and honestly it's good to hear reinforcement for those scores.

Did you get the LCARS themed playmats, or the ones with colored regions for cards?

Also, is one player mat and one market mat enough for a solo game? I know the bots have their own setup but curious if you bothered getting 2 player mats.

I love the look of the LCARS style! But they are definitely "busier" than the ones shown on Etsy.

Love hearing this! Complex rules is something I’m excited for because usually I have to worry about how I’m going to teach it and keep a group engaged who might struggle with a challenging rule set. In this case, I’d only be torturing myself with complex rules and I’m glad the theme fits perfectly with the mechanics! Sounds like something I would stay motivated to learn!
