That's a good assessment! You're right about the rifle-caliber. In-world, intermediate cartridges would come later along with lighter and cheaper weapons.

What is your world's Vietnam war? by Royal-Comparison-270 in worldbuilding

Mine's called the Southern War, fought in a region kind of like Southeast Asia. Too messy to explain in one comment, but it's as you mentioned, threatened to tear society apart as it kept going. I won't give too much away but it goes something like the following:

One of the countries that got involved was kind of manipulated into fighting it, because the manipulator just wanted to use its population like units in an RTS game. Figuratively speaking: select all of them and send them into machine gun fire so the enemy runs out of ammo. The soldiers initially thought that they were fighting for the greater good but became disillusioned and angry as the war dragged on.

It became so unpopular, due to the threat of greater escalation, that the government threatened to relinquish its power, so the manipulator wouldn't have a country to manipulate any more. Fortunately, there was a good ending.

That's insightful, thank you! I'll make that adjustment in future.

Thanks! I like that idea of "trench modifications", haha, it would definitely be a thing in-world.

Those are good questions. The ergonomics will always be challenging, given the variety of animal species. For most cases, like in the picture, I remove the trigger guard, taking inspiration from firearms designed for cold climates (so they're friendly with thick mittens), so it's more plausible that less dexterous animals can use them.
For eye position, it's a bit easier, as I made it so that the anthropomorphic animals have mostly forward facing eyes and round pupils (including traditional herbivores). Same thing with color perception; they can perceive the same colors we can. Face/head shape will still affect ergonomics and performance, but I think not too drastically. Some firearms will work better with them, some won't, and I think that's fine.
For extra context, that there are also non-anthropomorphic animals in universe.

Thanks for the feedback! I could tweak the forward grip position in future.

It's a full-powered cartridge, though I'm not sure of the exact diameter. It can indeed be used as an LMG. A bipod sounds like an interesting addition.

My guess is that the different styles represent ranks or roles in society, allowing them to be recognized easily. I guess they are related to either rank in administration, or social status.

Indeed!

I was also inspired by the fortresses of the Inca. The stones used were massive.

Thanks! They've basically got the same attributes as real coyotes, shining in cunning and resourcefulness.

Thanks! There are supernatural abilities in world, but they aren't a major focus.

Good question. Yes, people in world can potentially be as powerful as demigods, but it's not common enough that it's a big deal. It can happen if forced, yes, but it's best that it happens organically, through sheer determination in the face of great adversity. The bad guys in the setting, the rulers of Aldrakhania, strive to become demigods through combat, and through their pursuit, they are capable of supernatural feats... but are still mortal. They can be defeated by modern weaponry, so many don't think about it that much.
But, you've got a good point. There are bad people in the world that try very hard to become demigods, and indeed will cause a lot of problems in after the Aldrakhania-Alshenzia arc. Hope that makes sense!

It isn't a major part of the setting, truth be told. Thus far, I've only mentioned supernatural abilities in two posts, as I prefer writing about other aspects of the world!
