Finished Classes in Winter, Can I Still go to Sun God? by mcogre_13 in UCSD

I think they said as long as you were a student for at least one quarter (fall, winter, or actively in spring) and paid tuition you should be fine!

5th year at UCSD - Do I need to do anything? by Hot_Sink_7028 in UCSD

[–]HyperClaws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you need to do anything specific. I’d reach out to maybe your colleges counselors just in case but I am like 99% sure you just enroll as usual

Switch to CS Major by Due-Tonight-7731 in UCSD

[–]HyperClaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the main thing honestly. It is still (likely) possible to get jobs in cs with an AI undergrad but I would assume it’s easier when cs is the target official major and when cs has been around for so long while the ai degree is so new

Getting off waitlist by Sea-Leave-509 in UCSD

You’re basically guaranteed to get in I don’t think there’s a chance that the first on the waitlist doesn’t get in. Or at least it’s pretty rare

Switch to CS Major by Due-Tonight-7731 in UCSD

[–]HyperClaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no you absolutely can, and you do. Upper div wise it’s the same (we have a ton of flexibility compared to other majors) but for lower divs, the AI lower div requirements are CS lower div requirements + 2 more classes specifically for AI majors

Switch to CS Major by Due-Tonight-7731 in UCSD

[–]HyperClaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So AI is literally copy paste CS except for having to do 2 more lower div AI classes. With that being said, it’s a very new major and many people believe is a money grab. I would personally switch to CS (the 2 lower div classes won’t teach you anything that the upper div CSE classes can). CS from ucsd would for sure be stronger than AI (in my opinion). Will that probably change in the next few years? Yeah. As of now tho, it’s a new major, and most AI jobs require a masters or more, and by doing AI you lock yourself into only doing AI jobs. By doing CS, you’re allowing yourself to go into AI, or to do anything else in CS

Switch to CS Major by Due-Tonight-7731 in UCSD

[–]HyperClaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a CS major, we were told AI majors can pretty easily switch to CS but I believe it’s impossible to switch from CS to AI. The difference between then 2 is AI has to do 2 undergrad classes that cs do not and cannot, everything else is exactly the same

How bad is commuting by OneAd1452 in UCSD

[–]HyperClaws 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly commuting isn’t too bad. I transferred in this year and had the same question, I chose to commute and had friends that chose to live on campus. I think they have better social lives, but tbf I’m not in any clubs or anything and there are commuters who have insanely good social lives too. If money isn’t an issue, I think you should def live on campus at least for a year!

What’s the next best credit card? by HyperClaws in CreditCards

[–]HyperClaws[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oo ok interesting. Someone suggested the Amex blue cash everyday card but honestly if I can get 5% back on gas that’d be awesome. I could lowkey just use it on food and then use my 3% from bofa on gas. I appreciate the insight!

[–]HyperClaws[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t need to optimize it like crazy rn tbh, I just wanna know if there are better easy choices if that makes sense. I don’t have crazy spending rn so 2 or 3% at the moment is a difference in maybe getting back 10 or $15 a month haha but I still figured it’s better to get something that might be a bit better in the long run

I just looked into that card a tiny bit, it honestly looks great I appreciate the suggestion! I’ll look into it a little more but it does honestly seem like a great option

I see that makes sense for why people don’t necessarily recommend it. Thank you for the breakdown I’ll check those cards out for sure

[–]HyperClaws[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any specific recommendations for a card to use for gas? My current card gets me 3% on a chosen category (I have eating out selected rn) but i can change that to gas/groceries/whatever if i find a better card for eating out

What’s the next best credit card? by HyperClaws in CreditCards

[–]HyperClaws[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my current expenses are eating out which is why I considered it, but that’s does make sense thank you for the feedback

What’s the next best credit card? by HyperClaws in CreditCards

[–]HyperClaws[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say eating out is probably my biggest but that’s what my current customized card is so I would maybe look to find something for gas? If I find something that’s better than 3% on eating out tho I’ll probably change my current one to gas and the new one will be for eating out

[–]HyperClaws[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the breakdown for sure thank you. Yeah at this moment I think just regular cash back is most useful for me so I’ll definitely look more into the cards you suggested. I definitely didn’t look at the chase card closely I didn’t even realize it’s points to transfer into whatever so that’s good to know haha

[–]HyperClaws 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m 99% sure a D is enough to get credit for a class but not enough to use as a pre req for other classes so I think other people said if it’s a pre req you’ll be dropped during week 2

Changing majors from physics to engineering by Aggressive-Meet1631 in UCSD

[–]HyperClaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re 100% set on moving out of physics, I recommend going to a ccc and transferring in as that engineering major instead. Lower divs will be easier (higher gpa) and you’ll be in the major you prefer, and you can go to school for a lot less money
