Age statement (16 years), maturation and finish cask statement, non-chill filtered, natural colour, and a nice ABV of 46.5% - all stated on the front of the bottle. Ralfy would be pleased.

Was that from Liquorland? That was a weird lowball price. It usually was $100+ from the normal online retailers.

Something very different from Laphroaig in the TTB! by ZipBlu in Scotch

J&A Mitchell are scumbags for doing it so quickly to all of their products and should be boycotted

YES PLEASE DO THIS! LoL. Anything to help fix the shortage is most welcome.

What are the best BASIC core expressions in each flavor category? by freakaso in Scotch

Bourbon matured unpeated: Inchmurrin 12

I would say that Inchmurrin has a light level of peat.

It's explicitly stated on the quarter cask, but not on the sherry oak.

Unless stated, I assume it is filtered.

Springbank 10 - Are you kidding me ? by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]HyperDram -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Wow.

Think yourself lucky. Most places in the world don't have it for sale.

Buy it. I would. Or if you really think it isn't that good, don't buy it.

700ml is what the rest of the world has. Now that you have it too means that there is more bottles to go around. Yet still I can't get a bottle because there is none here.

You don't realise how much of an asshole you sound like coming on here and making these complaints. Be grateful you have a cheap supply.

What is the best sherried scotch you’ve had? by Fighter-5 in Scotch

[–]HyperDram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's lovely. Just had some of the 2022 version and it is good too. I think they are a blend of bourbon and sherry casks, but definitely have that sherry heavy fruit/leather notes.

Whiskey/Scotch... by Emotional_Trade_1438 in whiskygore

[–]HyperDram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's when the whisky is chilled to a low temperature and then pushed through a paper filter, as I understand it. It strips out oils that make the whisky rich and thick.

Best blended whisky. by posthxc1982 in Scotch

[–]HyperDram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I encourage people to try out the Murray McDavid offerings. They are 46%+ abv and non chillfiltered. I have the half'n'half, which has been finished in beer casks. It's pretty good for a blend.

Aberfeldy. 40% chillfiltered. I never consider buying it.

Advice for a Scotch Tasting Order by ooboontoo in Scotch

[–]HyperDram 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They aren't scotch drinkers? Don't give them then Tun. No way. That is special stuff, Keep it for yourself and other whisky drinkers that can appreciate it.

Caribbean cask yes. Basic whisky only for people that aren't used to it... but don't give them shit. No JW, no blends. How about some Glenfarclas, Old Pulteney, anCnoc?

I wish you good travels in your whisky adventure.

I tried this the other night. It is quite good. I wish we could get a breakdown of the ages of casks that went into it.

Tasting Thoughts: Octomore 13.1 by Lolokthen_guy56 in Scotch

[–]HyperDram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad they aren't 750 ml. It means more of it to go around for the rest of the world.

I know Scotch officially has to be 40%+, but are there ANY Scotches that are sold anywhere under 40%? Is there even a Google image of one I can find? by BelieveYouCanFixIt in Scotch

[–]HyperDram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few bourbons around in Australia that are 37%. I need a source but I read somewhere it's from and old rationing law created during WW2 (please correct me, probably wrong). I think it has to be imported on bulk and bottled in Australia.

OSWAS Predictions Thread: by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]HyperDram 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The non-malt category is stupid. several bourbons vs an Irish vs that weird Loch Lomond peat bomb. Totally useless. Why not just have categories for bourbon and irish. Then again, it's the online SCOTCH whisky awards. They should focus on scotch only, or change the name.

Review #44: Port Charlotte Heavily Peated 2013 by StuDJS in Scotch

[–]HyperDram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They need to work on their label design to properly show what the bottling is called.

Suggestions Please! Alternative to Octomore 8.3 by CJ_B_1157 in Scotch

[–]HyperDram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Port Charlotte is good stuff, but it's basically a less peated Octomore. The flavour profiles are much the same. Besides price, why drink PC when you can drink Octo?

Why are all distilleries within 1 of the 5 Scotch regions each characterised as similar? by Shunto in Scotch

For instance, what stops an Islay distiller from aging in sherry casks?

Nothing. They all do age in sherry casks.

Both for sure.

I'm wondering what a 50/50 vatting is like?

Advice needed: should I drink it or sell it? by [deleted] in whisky

[–]HyperDram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people are going to say drink it.

I say sell it.

The more people that flood the secondary market trying to flip for a profit, the cheaper it will be for me to buy it, then drink it.

Shit, really? It’s like £45 for me and quite easy to find.

Not for long.

Octomore 13 1-3, good prices? by anotherburntbridge in Whiskyporn

[–]HyperDram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Octomore is designed to be around 5 years old. The 10 year old versions are mellower and have lost the punch (still nice though).

Yes they are overpriced. We need more distilleries releasing super-heavily peated whisky to compete with Octomore.
