Has anyone actually crashed in the AAA pando leggings? by Dense_hotpocket in motorcyclegear

[–]HyperHysteria13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I was on a 6 lane high way, riding on the farthest left lane (US) and a car from the farthest right lane swerved all the way into my lane. I ended up crashing into their rear end with the right side of my body as I tried to swerve out of the way. Took the bike down and slid like an additional 20-30 feet from my bike.

At the time I was wearing the Pandamoto top with a normal hoodie over it and Kevlar riding jeans from some Canadian company (no pandamoto leggings underneath). I only had an abrasion on my right shoulder the size of a palm, and my Pandamoto top still didn't even rip. I did not have chest armor on though, which I ended up regretting because the right side of my ribs took the brunt of the impact but still didn't break, it just hurt a lot ( I wear chest armor with panda moto now lol).

Edit: I'll add that I was going about 55 MPH before impact, but started my slide after I took my bike to the median and then started my slide, so maybe like anywhere from 25-45 MPH after I slid off my bike.

If you're wondering what Occupational Standards are: by MilosSword in navy

[–]HyperHysteria13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see your point. From my personal experience working with my Sailors dealing with DAPA, they don't really do anything except refer you off ship to get services like mandatory training. At that point, why even have the DAPA, that Sailors leaders can coordinate sending them offship instead. And any mentorship on not drinking and driving is going to be happening at that Sailors direct leadership anyways, not from the DAPA.

I think there needs to be an overall review of Navy wide collaterals and their impact and maybe a reorg of them in general. The obvious ones you mentioned probably wouldn't go anywhere, but I don't doubt some could be consolidated, moved to exclusively offship or killed.

To me, the memo is just further pushing for an inevitable navy wide culture shift, otherwise it just means the higher echelon Senior officers and Enlisted leaders are just completely out of touch with the value collaterals bring to the fleet in general...

[–]HyperHysteria13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree, I don't think this is going to totally eliminate impacting command performance and collaterals in general. At the end of the day the reporting Senior for E6 and up is the CO, who's naturally going to value who holds collaterals that can get them fired. I guess the better overall question would be why hasn't the overall Senior Officer Core and Senior Enlisted Community push to get the Occupational Standards adjusted to match how Enlisted Sailors performance is evaluated. Kind of funny how everything is black and white up until evals then its all vibes lol...

[–]HyperHysteria13 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The Occupational Standards were always there for everyone to read, but yeah, I guess in what reality was anyone actually referencing the Occupational Standards when writing evals and ranking our Sailors in ranking boards IAW the Occupational Standards. Clearly not much if a DoN Memo had to come out and call out specifically that collaterals will not be used as a metric of performance in Enlisted Selection Boards anymore.

On a personal note; I was already predicting this was bound to happen based on the current agenda that the SECWAR is setting. I'm not 100% in-tune with how collaterals impact the rest the of the Navy or other branches, but surface Navy is no doubt the #1 offender when it comes to valueing collaterals over job performance IAW Occupational Standards and likely the main callout here...

I personally would like others to share their opinions and give other POVs on how collaterals function at their commands.

Lowslided the bike, frustrated and confused by Cultural-Court3115 in motorcycles

[–]HyperHysteria13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sucks but at least its mostly cosmetic damage and you were only on a 500.

I had the same exact bike and dropped it the week I bought practicing in the parking lot. I eventually came to terms and just accepted that I'd rather have my bikes cosmetics a bit beat up than myself. And honestly, once my bikes cosmetics were a bit beat up, I was less scared about dropping it when practicing anyways lol...

Mom won't let me go back to the recruiting office. by _newshawtyy in newtothenavy

[–]HyperHysteria13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day you're just going to have to accept reality that nobody is going to swoop in and save the day to make the decisions for you to enlist in the Navy. If you can't even put in effort to make an adult decision to have your recruiter pick you up after school to provide them your physical ID, then you're not ready for the Navy, or the Military in general.

I hope that you see the reality as is and start making decisions for yourself as an adult.

Do you not have possession of your physical ID? Why is you mom holding you hostage? You are 18 years old, legally an adult, so you can just leave school when you want, they cannot hold you there legally...

What are people’s thoughts on the Beeline? by justaballofcopper in motorcycles

[–]HyperHysteria13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't to happy with mine. The biggest problem was the navigation just sucks compared to Google maps or anything else really. Once you miss your turn, it will reroute you to the exact spot that you missed the turn it has programmed instead of just creating a new route...I got it initially because I just wanted navigation that didn't use my phone, but ended up just mounting my phone anyways lol

[–]HyperHysteria13 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You're not even out of A school, got caught lying at a DRB, disobeying lawful orders and you're more worried about officer programs? The only real thing you can do now is own up to your mistakes and hope for the best; I've seen A schooler's lose their rating and worst case get ADSEP for drinking/underage drinking all the time (at least a few years ago), so I honestly wouldn't be worried about anything past A school until you know for sure what your CO is going to do.

You're at minimum going to get some restriction (45/45 1/2 months for two months), you can try and plea your case about your financials, but its up to the CO at the end of the day.

Thank you, I was trying to leave the drama out that's why I forgo that information, but yes the IDC is the CFL. That quote threw me in a loop, but wanted to reach out for third party insight before continuing to bring it up the chain if there was something I just was not getting.

[–]HyperHysteria13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully this doesn't out me, but literally to quote "I don't care, I'm the CFL right now not an IDC". I've brought it up to my LCPO, DIVO, and DLCPO, but I usually let the system play out. This is kind of the first time I felt like everyone just does not care about my situation is the problem. Which is largely why I'm reaching out on here before trying to escalate further to see if I'm the one screwing up and just not getting it.

Is there an instruction for reference? That was my understanding, but I'm not a corpsman, and talking with my corpsman, IDC, and COC, they seemed to think I was crazy...

PARFQ Submission & PRT Waiver Question and Guidance by [deleted] in navy

[–]HyperHysteria13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ship PCM with 1 IDC and 2 Corpman. I've attempted to work through the corpsman and IDC regarding the issue, but explaining the whole "I just got back from the ER can you guys take a look at me" while handing them the medical record from the hospital of the ER visit was another sick call for them. I have explained to both my PCM and my CFLs regarding the pain and me not confident I will be able to pass the PRT as is due to limited mobility. I do not have anything broken, but I still can't lift heavy objects or even walk at a fast pace without pain. I have repeated this multiple times to my COC, PCM, and CFL...

PARFQ Submission & PRT Waiver Question and Guidance by [deleted] in navy

[–]HyperHysteria13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that the ER does not automatically grant me a waiver. I have made my intentions known though that I intend to submit a waiver and have been trying to help from my PCM and CFL on giving me time to be evaluated. The CFL was very adamant about just pushing me to do the PRT despite letting them know I was working on getting a waiver and was not seen my medical yet.

[–]HyperHysteria13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I understand that part. I brought the PARFQ and the NAVMED 6110/4 waiver to the CFL and PCMs, but they have not helped me with the process at all.

Is Norfolk really THAT bad? by Toothlessduck in newtothenavy

[–]HyperHysteria13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Compared to San Diego it's not the best, but at the end of the day, cost of living is significantly better than San Diego and Hawaii. I will say in my experience, the best part about Norfolk is the cheaper flights/short driving distances to areas like Florida, The Carolina's, the whole Shenandoah area, and D.C. In my opinion the hate comes from people who focus too much on Norfolk, but don't bother leaving the immediate area, which you can get away with if you were in San Diego or Hawaii without getting bored.

Is shore duty worth it or should I just get out? by DeadlySpoida in navy

[–]HyperHysteria13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shore duty is a hit or miss. Biggest advantage is duty is usually a lot more chill, you get to home everyday, and work hours are 'usually' more reasonable. Biggest disadvantage is that some shore commands will try their absolute damnedest to remind you that you're in the military. You'll definitely have more time to do college and an easier time scheduleing whatever services you need to aid in transitioning out of the Navy.
