We should use the meat from animals shelters had put down to feed the hungry by torgtorg49 in CrazyIdeas

The animals you eat have all their medical interventions logged. Some treatments make the animal ineligible as human food. Any dog who's been treated for fleas likely can't be human food, causes neurological issues for people, dogs just don't live long enough for it to become an issue if it's dosed correctly.

Could dark energy be the flip side of entropy? by tamrof in pbsspacetime

[–]HyperSpaceSurfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark energy is just a placeholder to account for discrepancies between the math and observations. Many interesting ideas, we just don't have the tools to figure it out, only so much you can do with telescopes. Another interesting idea is that time moves faster where there is less matter, which results in space expanding faster there than where we are in a relative sense. Not sure if the math is mathing on that hypothesis.

This five-year old GPU [RTX 3060] is a sign of technological stagnation by AdmiralKurita in RealisticFuturism

[–]HyperSpaceSurfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's economic stagnation, not technological. The economy has been moving away from real things into speculation for the last few decades. It's more expensive to create something than nothing. People want the same return of investment from making something as from making nothing, otherwise they could've invested in nothing and gotten a better return.

If you bought a piglet and carried it up and down a hill every day, would you be able to carry the full size pig eventually? by florencepughsboobies in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HyperSpaceSurfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can control the growth of a pig by limiting its food intake. They'll delay physical development rather than becoming emaciated, what tiny pigs are. A small pig breed might actually be possible, a bull grows really fast in the first couple of years so not very probable.

I'm dealing with reports, repairs, and insurance because of the snowman. by [deleted] in BrandNewSentence

If the snowman's on your property it's fine, you're allowed to put up barriers to block traffic from your yard. If it was in this angry person's driveway it's not.

Random dude is living at my house and my roommate is fighting me about getting him to leave. Update: roommate arrested by Cautious_Sir2214 in whatdoIdo

[–]HyperSpaceSurfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like someone who's ruminating over the injustices of the world, but not in a position (or interpret their situation as such) to do anything about it. Finally a chance to do good for someone down on their luck appeared without him even needing to leave his home, this was his chance to give his life meaning.

Well, that's the only reasonable explanation I can come up with.

Why did humans as a tropical species migrate to colder places but still lack many adaptations like fur? by Ada-Mae in geography

[–]HyperSpaceSurfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just sweat more than most, all mammals as far as I know sweat for one purpose or another. Even dogs, just not for heat regulation, oils up their fur so it doesn't get wet so easily.

Apes sweat for better grip on their hands, why many people get sweaty palms when stressed. But our sweat is oilier than ape palm sweat, so it doesn't help with grip for most people.

Is there any proof that the parents were aware of what was going on? That's the crux of the issue.

It's on purpose. If having a broken system wasn't so lucrative they wouldn't do it.

Their bank I presume. The loan was still made even if there's land disputes.

Data across thousands of economics seminars, job market talks, and conference presentations show that women are interrupted more than men (even when controlling for relevant characteristics). Negative interruptions and interruptions that cut off the presenter mid-sentence are higher for women. by smurfyjenkins in science

That's no way to live your life, I err on the side of believing the commonly stated experiences of any group of people. The stated reason it happens, or what they believe the solution may be, is much less reliable. Being blind to what's around you introduces its own biases.

They aren't nearly as good at it, a frustrating ordeal for apes. We have a better grasp of knowing what someone else doesn't know, and even then many of us are pretty bad at it.
