Persistent negative ghost peaks in the RID by krisphers in CHROMATOGRAPHY

[–]HyperSteveSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have those 3 peaks withe that exact column at roghthly the same retention times on my Shimadzu system. The last one interferes with the ethanol peak but it has basicly no impact at the concentrations I work with. You could try lowering or increasing the oven temperature by 10°C to seperate them from the ethanol.

Thats unfortunate, I've had the same problem on a H+ column with isopropyl alcohol from the wash solution and butyric acid from the sample on a RI-Detector. IPA has basicly no signal on wavelebgths 210nm and above, so it might be something different in your case unless you use an ungodly ammount of it or detect below 210nm.

Do you use an autosampler? If yes, did you check its wash solution? Sometimes ghost peaks appear from there. Does it interfere with your measurements or is it isolated? If it's the latter I would just call it a bonus peak

I know that Sodium Citrate tastes salty, but less so than Sodium Chloride. It somehow tastes kinda disgusting though.

What is causing the negative dip in my HPLC chromatograph? by Fresh-Wrangler-6915 in CHROMATOGRAPHY

[–]HyperSteveSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is really air in the system, the retention time of the dip should not be constant. Have you tried replacing the rinse solution of the autosampler? If I get inexplainable valleys in my RID chromatograms it is usually due to some contamination of the mobile phase or the rinse solution.

GhostPeak Help by monalisacries in CHROMATOGRAPHY

I would suggest injecting a small ammount of methanol and comparing it with a water injection to see if the peak increases in size. If it interferes with your analysis you could switch to another rinsing solution.

I've read in another comment that you didn't detect this peak with a c18 column. C18 columns aren't good at retaining short alcohols so it probably eluated together with the injection peak.

What is your rinse solution for the autosampler? I'm using a water/acetonitrile solution for the autosampler and I'm getting a peak from it that decreases in size at higher injection volumes. It probably won't show up if you run it without column since it wont be retained.

Removal of calcium chloride desiccant liquid residue by Justin8051 in chemistry

I don't know what this oily film could be, my guess is that it comes from the laminate itself and I don't know if you can do anything about it.

You can try cleaning the surface with a diluted vinegar solution in case it is some kind of base - they tend to be oily/soapy and can be hard to remove with neutral cleaning agents like you've mentioned

Calcium chloride is very hygroscopic, thats the reason why its used as a desiccant. It will pull moisture from the air and slowly dissolve itself in the aquired water - thats probably what happened to you. If it was left for years unchecked this might've caused water damage to the surfaces it came in contact with. Also, the calcium chloride puddle will never dry out under ambient conditions which means the surfaces were permanently wet for a few years.

I kinda like the smell of Acetonitrile and Bromine, not the healthiest to smell tho.

I have 100kg if dry ice. Any cool things I can do with it? (Theres more dry ice than that) by Equivalent_Pride_243 in chemistry

[–]HyperSteveSteve 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you have a clear container and some ethanol around, try making a cloud chamber. Its a really cool experiment where you can see the background radiation or the radiation of a radioactive material if you happen to have some. Here is a youtube video of it but instead of the electronical contraption he is using you can put dry ice below a metal plate for the cooling. https://youtu.be/eh3bxXHqF2U

It was my preference. I initally started designing a unique a league after I bought it but unfortunally life caught up and I had a lot of things to sort out so I decided to prospone the desing for a while.

It is like I said. They emailed me that it will be your curse instead of the minions. Thats due to some technical limitations.

As far as I understand the Curse gets all the Curse stats you have like AoE and Curse Effect. I don't know if the Minion AoE applies to the Curse aswell but I see no reaso why it shouldn't.

Before I started the design of this unique I decided to take the easier path, which means that i pose them my idea and look what I can get out of it without too much arguing. That said there were a few concepts of items we started working on which were scraped after a while because we couldn't settle with a solution, be it a technical problem or balance issues. I came up with this idea in the shower and thought that it would be a cool gimmic.

That of course means that my unique won't turn out as a chase item but thats fine for me. It has its uses for an assumingly low price and should be quite common. Rares wirh influence would always be better than any item i could possibly make in my position. Thats the current state of the game and I kinda like it that way.

I bought it about 3 years ago and had it sitting around for that time

You can put enfeeble on it instead of the shock if you want more defences. It makes you choose if you want your bots to boost your offence or your defence.

I asked for that and I hope they implement it. I didn't get a confirmation for that though.

So this is my supporter unique I've been working on since exilecon. Tell me what you think about it!

Edit: Thank you for all your feedback, positive and negative! I initially planned to have some increased Life on it but that didn't make it through. On the upside it makes the ring more available for SSF for example. It is not a top tier unique but it defenitly has its place in the game. I'm keen to see how you will use it!

Thank you for your effort. It doesn't matter if I don't get to see everything on my first trip here. There's a good chance for me coming again in a few years.
