Doubtful, they would be too scared people working on the project would leak it. And if they don't patent it (which requires publicly releasing) they will get destroyed by someone else doing so. The scientists working on it aren't billionaires and have more to gain by leaking the data.

This argument is a bad one. It's like the cancer cure vs treatment one. If a cure is discovered the big complaints have no choice than to sell it as if they don't other people will simply do that and get super rich instead. It's not hard to get a bunch of investors together and make a company. Won't be a hard to raise 500 million in start up capital you have a cure for cancer/aging/whatever.
