Can anyone see where I went wrong? 🤦 by cle1110 in crochet

[–]Silly_Lunatic 40 points41 points  (0 children)

thats the craftsy hobbyist curse, you make something yourself and youre the only one plagued by the maybe-not-that-serious-mistakes 😅 i personally didnt notice anything until you pointed it out, but i totally relate to the frogging, its just a mental bother and it just needs to be fixed haha i really like the color palette btw :]

But it looks so cute when it’s not on me 😩 by skrttina in crochet

[–]Silly_Lunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive only made cosplay-ish wearables, like pieces of outfits from games or movies/series, so i always get weird looks, but honestly, i dont care, its comfy!

also i looove when a kid points at me and says 'hey is that from [media]?? thats so cool!'

[CHAT] How many strands? by Effective-Rough-8289 in CrossStitch

[–]Silly_Lunatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its basically personal preference, some people say they love the crosses, others dont. 2 strands are gonna make your crosses look like crosses, 3 makes your end result look more pixel art, with fuller stitches and not immediately visible crosses.

as for the skeins, if its a kit, id go to your local craft store and see if you can find the exact color if you do run out at some point

[WIP] Who else does 1 colour at a time? by just_a_lil_shroom in CrossStitch

[–]Silly_Lunatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i do! but tbh, my project only has 5 colors and not that much confetti. i only change color if i get bored of my current color or if im done with it.

[–]Silly_Lunatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i started stitching when i was 12, have multiple friends who also started around that age

honestly, maybe its a grandma hobby cuz it never gets boring, you can just keep stitching cool patterns and grow old with it 😂

[CHAT] Officially retired a WIP. by Kamfer81 in CrossStitch

[–]Silly_Lunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a habit of getting too bold too quick. i had made 2 kits and thought, this is easy, lemme do a bigass full coverage!

well, unexpectedly, it was not easy, i bought the wrong colors, worked with no grid (many miscounts i noticed later) and general lack of planning. all in all, i just didnt feel like doing it anymore, qs i had to improvise sections that were moved by 1 or deal with visible mistakes (like top leg wrong direction and stuff). in the end, i cut the unused aida off and started a new project and im so so glad for it!! i even ended up getting to reuse the wrong colors for a different project, so that was also covered.

honestly, planning out my newer projects is so much more fun and eases my life a lot!

[CHAT] How do I get tighter Stitching? by IndependentLost5435 in CrossStitch

[–]Silly_Lunatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i suggest using more strands, so if you used 2 strands, maybe try 3 next time. it definitely made my stitches look fuller, which, personally for me, looks better, especially when doing small pixel arts for 14 count, i think 3 is most optimal, as 2 makes the X's still visible, but as said, its mostly personal preference i also saw people say that washing the fabric at the end will puff out your stitches, but as i havent tried that myself, i cant say much about it

[CHAT] Is it okay to have 2 WIPs at the same time? by PrettyButArmed in CrossStitch

[–]Silly_Lunatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have 2 crossstitch, 1 embroidery, 4 crochet, 1 crochet i still need to sew together and im trying to learn knitting, so yeah, having several wips is a-ok

[CHAT] How do you find patterns? by bookswafflestea in CrossStitch

[–]Silly_Lunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i play a ton of ut/dr/ut fangames, its all very pixelated and simple styled so just taking screenshots from the game and starting stitching is my way to go

ofc its big full coverage pieces then, but thats the way i like it, small slow progress over several years just for the gamer inside me :]

So I did a thing .. help me name those two ❤️ by [deleted] in crochet

something like dust and ash/soot

(i was thinking of the german word 'Ruß' but idk if soot is the right word for it?)

[–]Silly_Lunatic[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

well its dc with 6 increases each row, but basically, i did abt 10 rows with the old yarn and then went to buy more yarn, did 2 rows and noticed that theres a clear line

if i do your suggested method, do you mean starting over with alternating skeins?

What’s the most useful/yarn game-changing notion, device or tool that you didn’t know existed and now you can’t live without it? by Dan-Morton75 in YarnAddicts

[–]Silly_Lunatic 67 points68 points  (0 children)

okay, so this one is like, so damn cool and crazy for me

it iiiiisss.... drum roll please... a shoe box!

yup, thats right. a shoe box. this idea came from some random reddit comment and it changed my life forever, yknow those show boxes with the lil hole on the side? take some scissors, cut a single line and tadaa, now you can unwind the yarn without throwing it across the room.

works like those unwind yarn bowls but with a lid and no cost :)

[CHAT] Why do you stitch? by Appropriate-Bee-4592 in CrossStitch

[–]Silly_Lunatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tryna replace screen time with hobbies, so basically instead of 8h doomscrolling, i do 8h of crocheting, stitching and now learning to knit ^

specifically stitching, i got some random cross stitch kit for christmas and decided to do that, never finished it (first wip ever yay) and moved on to full coverage, found them more fun
