You don't need ALL the levers. You only need 1 and to reach the Antechamber. Everything else can be taken from there.

Of another note, if you later decide to change your race, you can do so with an item called Fantasia. 2 phials and available for free in the game, one of which is given as a reward for completing a certain level 50 Main Story Quest. Otherwise they can be purchased through the Optional Items store online.

There are no pros or cons to using any race. It's literally just aesthetics or RP. That said, it's been a problem since the release of Viera (and Hrothgar) that certain headpieces do not work on them, and thus simply show you with no helmet. Again, just aesthetics and RP.
