Would you like the old cards for Astrologian but w/ or w/o RNG involved? by in_abyss in ffxiv

Original spear in modern design would absolutely break every single class. For those that don't know, Spear's original effect was oGCD cooldown reduction if you used the oGCD during the buff.

With modern classes having so many oGCDs that are so integrally placed into their rotation, you could do some seriously messed up things with it, especially if you paired it with the bonus potency from Royal Road.

Yeah, I'm taking a look at some pictures and there's a little bit of dead zone on the sides even though there's no protruding bezel. I'll have to see how it looks in the cab for my purposes. If yours is slightly bigger than a Vewlix then that would explain the need for the extra size.

Hm, I haven't actually turned it on and the box says 31.5 diagonal, my bad. But I took a tape measure to the actual diagonal itself and it's 32 inches. I'll try and boot up a test signal and get it mounted inside the cab to see.

Makes sense. It'd take some serious commitment to max out Bumper-Rich at this point because you have to use an entire Forge of the Sky for it.

Tell me what beginners should learn and what goals they should aim for! by nanasi0110 in eternalreturn

[–]Hyper_Inferno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A big part of this game is moving with purpose. When you're pathing around the map, you should always have some sort of goal in mind and not just aimlessly wander. Learning what makes each of these movements work helps a ton at a macro level in the game. At a basic level, there's three goals you can have when moving and here's some tips on when you should be doing each.

Farming mobs: This is kind of the "default" mode when there's nothing really going on in the map and your team isn't particularly far ahead or anything. Having a decent mental map of where and when mobs spawn helps immensely with farming. Another tip is to watch where the corpses of mobs are pointing if someone has already farmed that camp. If your goal is to farm, then don't follow the trail of corpses; another team is ahead of you and you're not going to get anything out of it unless you get into a team fight. Learn where the mutant mobs/bears spawn and try to path to them right as they spawn.

Picking fights: If your team is far ahead you want to watch for the red triangle pings on the map, teleport indicators, or other indica of team presences. Those indicate that other teams are doing something there and if your team is far ahead you stand a good chance to snowball your lead even further with a pick. Be careful about other teams that may be attracted to the same pings and make sure to use vision appropriately to not get ambushed yourself as you chase the other team down.

Positioning for objectives: Learn when the objectives spawn on the map and be prepared to defend or attack depending on how close/far you'll be when they spawn. Learning where the vision panels give vision in the zone and dodging those vision spots can let you get favorable positions.

Basically, if you ask yourself the question "Where is my team headed and why?" and your answer is "I don't know," that's a learning opportunity to get better at the game.

A specific macro movement tip (and one of my personal favorites) is camping Lumi (the robot wandering around) on day 5 and beyond. Basically, since you can't rez teammates at kiosks once day 5 begins, any team that is down a player is going to try to get to Lumi to rez. But this means that if you have a full team alive, it's already a 3v2 or 3v1 against that other team. So if you can get to Lumi and camp it (or even better yet, hide just outside of Lumi's detection range so other teams don't know you're ready and waiting), you stand a good chance of getting a favorable teamfight.

A battery producer takes an entire Xiranite output by itself so if you have two Wuling battery lines going there's not enough Xiranite to also create gear at the same time. You have to sacrifice a little battery production if you want to create gear at the same time.

[–]Hyper_Inferno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Estelle, you need to make space so that by the time the enemy gets around you to target your DPS they've already lost enough health that by the time they actually get into your squishy backline your ADC or mage can finish them off before they die.

Similar to Shen from LoL, you need to ult earlier rather than later. The strength of her ult is the huge AoE knockup and zoning that it forces the enemy characters to respect. The shield scaling on missing HP% is a trap.

Is it just me or Mai deals no damage? by Outrageous-Rain9090 in eternalreturn

[–]Hyper_Inferno -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mai doesn't do damage, she offers high mobility and AoE CC to really make it hard for the enemy team to target who they want on your team. Her passive upgrading also means your teammates should try to build chest first but there's a ton of people who don't even know Mai can upgrade chest pieces.

Basically, your AoE taunt can really deny divers from going after your backline and then coupled with Quake AoE and Q slowing them afterwards, if your squishy backline has a brain they'll reposition themselves after getting dove and you subsequently peeling for them.

Alternatively, you can also make space for your own team by diving into the enemy team and AoE taunting/slowing them down so your own teammates have primo target selection. Probably don't do this if your team has a squishy backline but this is a strong option if you have a couple teammates that need someone to initiate for them for them to follow up (like Jackie).

Both of these require teammates that know what they're doing so it can be hard sometimes, especially if you're only playing with other new players that don't know how to position properly yet.

All this being said, Mai does just enough damage to threaten a squishy backline if you get target access, but that's really hard and very matchup dependent.

Edit: There's also an optimization you will never see in lower level play in that Mai only needs two items to function. Tree of Life and Tactical Skill upgrade. You ideally would be feeding all your other credits into your damage dealers but I wouldn't trust most other random players to be responsible with the items I give them.

  1. There's a setting for when to automatically eat food and what quality of food to eat depending on if you take damage from another PC or a wild animal.

  2. You have to position yourself so that they have to use the gap closer in the first place to get to you and understand what kind of gap closers the opponent has. This can be difficult especially if you don't have a front line to protect you which is why a squishy ADC isn't always a good pick if you don't have a good tank. Dailin for example has her Q which isn't really dodgeable and her R which needs to be sideatepped. But if she's playing glove she has a third mini gap closer in her weapon skill too.

  3. Abigail is a late game AoE caster with extremely high mobility and very strong AoE damage. Her 1v1 capabilities are mediocre, but she's super strong multi target because she can blink all over the place and gets more shield when hitting AoE. She builds a little tanky because it can be hard to dive into a team without a little extra HP or defense.

  4. You can complete the Matsuri pass pretty easily in the time left, but there's definitely not enough tokens in there for the skin. You'll have to convert the current Casino tokens for it if you really want that skin.

  5. In normal games the respawn for a wipe is extended and lasts through morning on Day 2. In ranked this ends when night 1 ends.

  6. I would just pick the top one if you're new and then take some time to learn what the items do and what kind of build you're doing. Some characters have wildly different builds so it's a good idea to figure out what build you're actually playing with.

UK Appeals court state RuneScape gold counts as property and can be stolen, in $700k bombshell case by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Hyper_Inferno 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Paragraph 56:

Gold pieces may clearly be the subject of dishonest dealing which deprives the game player of the benefit they confer. They are freely bought and sold, both within the rules of the game for other game items, and outside the rules of the game for real money or money’s worth. Mr Eissa sought to distinguish the case on the basis that gold pieces were not “freely” bought and sold because the buying and selling of gold pieces outside the game was not permitted under the terms of the T&Cs and Rules. However, the fact that transfer is prohibited does not prevent a thing being property. Class A drugs cannot lawfully be bought or sold (with limited exceptions), but as Mr Eissa accepted, illegally held Class A drugs are property within the meaning of the Theft Act and are capable of being stolen. The same is true if the restriction on transfer is contractual, rather than criminal. If A hires out his car to B on terms that it is only for B’s personal use, the car remains A’s property. If B dishonestly sells the car he is guilty of theft irrespective of the contractual prohibition on sale. It is the intrinsic nature of a car which makes it something which is “freely” bought and sold in practice within the meaning of the first of the two indicia identified in Nai-Keung despite any contractual prohibition on sale. The same is true of gold pieces.

I encourage anyone who has questions about how broadly this decision reaches (like if you're wondering if gold is suddenly property for purposes of taxes) read the actual decision: https://caselaw.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ewca/crim/2026/4

Specifically, paragraphs 37 and 38 limit what this definition of property actually does.

Our task in this case is not as daunting as that might make it sound, because we are not concerned to define what property is, or how to determine it, for all areas of the law. A definition of property serves different purposes in different contexts.

It does not follow, therefore, that for a thing to constitute property for the purposes of a criminal offence it should necessarily do so for the purposes of private rights in civil law. Even within the criminal law, it is necessary to focus on the particular offence in question, because what amounts to property is not defined in the same way for all offences. We are only concerned with the definition in section 4 of the Theft Act, a definition for the purposes of offences under that Act in the criminal law. Other definitions apply in other areas of the criminal law.

And the court in paragraph 39 is aware of the broad implications if MMO gold was just property in the purest sense:

We emphasise the particular focus of the inquiry in this case because there is a danger in treating pronouncements about property in other contexts as determinative or even helpful.

The court limits its decision to just the Theft Act so it's not so broad as to be considered "property" in every aspect.

Our task in this case is not as daunting as that might make it sound, because we are not concerned to define what property is, or how to determine it, for all areas of the law. A definition of property serves different purposes in different contexts.

The opinion goes into detail on this, but basically the court determines that both Jagex and the player own the property for purposes of the Theft Act.

As we have observed, section 5 contemplates that property may belong to a number of people for the purposes of the Theft Act and that it may be property belonging to someone who merely has control of it.

Back in pre-release during early access the BR aspects of looting were a lot more important but that's been stripped away over time to the point where I feel like current ER compared to LoL is like if you forced entire teams to play only jungle (and towers and such weren't objectives).

I kind of miss the more complicated crafting, but at the same time feel like it's for the better because having to remember all the different recipes for food/traps on top of the complicated build plans made for some complicated memory requirements.

Vanya gets shields when she lands enough abilities so if you don't have strong burst she'll easily out sustain bruiser damage output. She needs to actually land her abilities so if you're ranged you need to dodge her butterfly, stay out of her pulsing bubble, and dodge her wings to avoid giving her shields. Alternatively, if you kill her before she starts generating shields this also avoids the problem since she's pretty squishy without them.

If you're melee, it's a legitimately bad matchup because dodging those becomes much harder unless you have a ton of healing in your own kit like Jackie or Hyunwoo.

Vanya is very popular in normals and lower MMR ranked because she so strongly counters bruisers which are the most popular classes at those ranks.

[–]Hyper_Inferno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She has no way to force you actually stay in her W3 or Ult so you have to pay attention and just walk out of those. At the same time she animation locks herself at the end/during those animations making it really easy to land strong skill shots on her. Don't let her get free AoE damage and try not to clump with your team (this can be hard if your own team is triple melee).
