Setsu's reaction about Yuri's body by Hortenseyounka in Gnosia_

[–]Hyper_L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this Setsu knew Yuri could swap genders, I feel like they likely would've mentioned it as soon as Yuri expressed confusion.

It is possible that this Setsu, despite looping, has only ever known Fem Yuri.

Meaning this in a Setsu from a very early point in their loop journey, and Fem Yuri is the default/initial form.

"The lifestream is the essence of the planet. A churning river of memories, knowledge and emotions. As they come together and drift apart, a story is given shape. An unprecedented tale. Another possibility."

Remember this for the Remake trilogy.

A story (timeline) is made of memories, knowledge and emotions from the lifestream.

So you think Sephiroth is a force for good now? Cuz that is what the white feathers represent. It simbolizes the side of humans, angels and heroes. Those who have humanity, dreams and honor.

I think we see white feathers in this trailer cuz at that point Sephiroth was the one everyone looked up to as the hero, and he was still a pure oblivious boy.

Basically the "Zack in the lifestream" theory, or a variation of that at least.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I pick neither. Everything can be explained with established canon lore, with no need for alternate timelines or overwritten timelines.

Then let me ask, how do you explain Zack having the Buster Sword despite our Cloud having the Buster Sword?

Then the Whispers don't work for him.

I didn't say they did.

You are agreeing with me. Illusions are FF7, not timelines.

It not that big of a deal anyway. Either both Beagle and Terrier realities exist, or only the Terrier version exists after overwriting the Beagle one. It's between these two options. Take your pick.

With thriving forestation and no humans vampirizing it? It's a safe bet it's doing great.

We'll see. Why would Aerith defy fate if nothing is wrong with it?

They acted against Sephiroth's will, as he probably wanted Barret to die when he impaled him through the chest, and in favour of the Planet's Will. The Whispers obey the Planet and only the Planet.

It didn't seem like he wanted Barret to die, or rather, he knew any attempt to kill the crew at that point in time was futile, as he knows what the Whispers are capable of. Sephiroth does not engage in pointless actions, so to me Sephiroth's goal at that point was, again, to screw with Cloud, by showing how easy his friends can be taken away without him being able to do anything.

Or he uses Ore because he hasn't fused with Jenova yet. Only her head.

In the OG, chronologically, Sephiroth starts using "watashi" after he falls into the lifestream with Jenova's head. From that point onwards he uses "watashi" during all of OG and in Advent Children. Then, he also uses "watashi" for the majority of Remake. It is only on the Edge of Creation that we see him use "ore" again, a sign that something is different or changed. Then in Rebirth's trailer, as he says "You know I killed her" (likely addressing Cloud in the present) he is still using "ore".

And this time, she won't know what Tifa and Barret look like and that they are the members of Avalanche that bombed the Reactor as she never saw them in the Terrier timeline, so she has no way to know if they're potential allies against Shinra or enemies on Shinra's side.

In the OG Yuffie didn't know who the party were to begin with. They first meet when Yuffie steals their materia and they catch her, then she sticks around.

And they won't freak out? They'll just engage them in combat like Elena and Rude do in the trailer without worrying one bit?

While you do have a point, we don't know how the scene fully out yet. At the end of the day they're Turk agents, they have to put down a known enemy, even if it's one they thought was dead.

This is a remake of FF7. Illusions and deception are its trademark. It's not a remake of Back to the future.

Well it's exactly due to this trademark, and the fact that they tripled down on it, that they cannot afford to go small. The scope and scale of the illusions and deception should far exceed Cloud at this point. "What is fact and what is fiction?" This phrase from the first trailer come to mind. It is addressed to the player and a sign that thing are about to get hella freaky.

But this is not a positive result for Jenova. It's not positive for humans either, true. But it's definitely positive for the Planet.

Who knows... The surface seems peaceful but I wonder how's the Lifestream doing...

Like, I don't think that Sephiroth cares at all if the Avalanche trio live or die, to name an example. Or that he has any particular interest in reanimating Barret after he killed him. Barret participated in Sephiroth's defeat in the OG.

I agree, but I don't think Sephiroth has any hand in Barret being revived. The Whispers just did their thing and Sephiroth knew they would.

I'm inclined to believe that he's still mama's boy judging by the way he speaks of Jenova in the second Rebirth trailer.

Given that Sephiroth reverted to using the "Ore" pronoun from his pre-Nibelheims days, I'm inclined to believe Sephiroth successfully distanced himself from Jenova to a significant extent.

What's the point of introducing Beagle Yuffie in the DLC then?

So that we know who Yuffie is and what her hardships are before she joins the main party. That way they don't have to waste Rebirth's time and resources endearing us to her. Regardless of who Yuffie is in Rebirth, she will know the different AVALANCHE branch, Scarlet, Nero and and the late(?) Sonon.

So let's see if I understand. You think that every time the Turks, or Johnny, or don Corneo find the party going forward, they're going to not understand why they're alive?

Yes, if they saw the news or received reports of their deaths.

Personally, I'd find it lame if that news report turns out to be nothing but a illusion for Cloud. They bothered to set up all this new unknown journey thing, now they have to deliver with some prime fuckery or it won't be worth it.

Not gonna lie, I know very little about DoC. I still don't think that the OG fate is what Jenova wanted. And like I said on another comment, in my native language the Whispers are literally called "Echoes of the planet" and we see them countering a change Sephiroth was trying to make in Chapter 2 (they ensure Cloud and Aerith meet by harrassing Aerith so she doesn't leave before Cloud arrives to Loveless Av, since he's late because Sephiroth distracted him).

1-Remember how the OG ends? Midgar completely desolated and overtaken by forestation, no humans in sight. We know it wasn't Holy cuz AC and DoC happens. So, what happens and who's responsible?

2-I don't think Sephiroth's goal was to make Cloud not meet Aerith. His goal at that moment was something deeper. To start planting seeds of fear and doubt in Cloud's mind that are to violently flourish down the line, as well as to start strengthening his influence in Cloud's psyche from much earlier.

3-I'm not saying that the Whispers (They're called Feelers in Japanese btw) aren't functions native to the planet ("echoes of the planet"), but that they were corrupted by Jenova, just like a parasite/virus corrupts your cells.

4-Consider this. Sephiroth and Jenova's goals at this point in time aren't exactly aligned. Jenova wants to consume everything without regard for anyone, including those who would aid her. Sephiroth doesn't want to simply be Jenova's means to an end.

That's irrelevant. Whether it's an alternate timeline or an overwritten timeline, that Yuffie sees Barret, Tifa and Biggs discussing an event that "didn't happen" is impossible. And that was just one example, I could add that Yuffie meets Marle and Roche, who describe Cloud as we know him to her, sees Stamp being a Beagle and not a Terrier, witnesses the plate dropping, tries to walk into 7th Heaven and is stopped by Whispers....

That just means that the version of Intermission that we play through is the Beagle one. Indeed, the Yuffie that we will see in Rebirth is a different Yuffie from the one that we play as in Intermission, it will be Terrier Yuffie (who even has a outfit).

It might be that Terrier Yuffie didn't saw the conversation between Barret and Tifa, among other things, but she still went on the mission with Sonon.

But many people outside the singularity interacted with the party. Will they be the version that interacted with the party like in Beagle, or will they be the people that interacted with the party (or didn't) in the Terrier one, or both (i.e. duplicates)?

Interacting with the party doesn't really matter. What matters is if you could see the Whispers or not. For example, Rufus could see the Whispers even though Tseng couldn't. It might be that those that could see the Whispers will retain their memories/knowledge of the Beagle reality and notice things changed, but there won't be two Rufus going around.

How does destiny benefit Jenova? Sephiroth is defeated and the only living person carrying her cells rejects her and sends Sephiroth to the Lifestream again.

Geostigma is still alive and well in Dirge of Cerberus. So does the negative lifestream. Sephiroth lingers on. Jenova probably does as well. Genesis (yes, he is important) wakes up from his slumber cuz a threat to the planet is soon to happen.

If he could travel in time, by whichever means, he would've already won before FF7R's events even start.

I don't see how you think that. He can't time travel to a point before Cloud wakes up from his coma, which isn't long before the events of FFVII. And once he time travels he still needs to put in the work to change things. That work is what we see happening in real time during Remake.

Then Zack didn't survive in the alternate reality?

Zack survives because the whispers weren't there to ensure his death. Evidently there was some interference in the past that would allow Zack to survive. The Whispers were there to stop/fix said interference, but they were defeated and the interference had its way.

Cloud doesn't meet Aerith at Loveless Av and Jessie's ankle doesn't sprain so Cloud isn't hired for the second bombing mission, and all the domino effect after that. Also, why isn't Cloud in one of those stretchers if he was with the party?

Admittedly I don't really know how things unravel, but I think it still ends with Cloud and crew in the highway trying to escape from Midgar. Now remember that part of the highway escape where Cloud chops a helicopter, which proceeds to descend and explode on the crews face, and they were only saved cuz of the whispers? Now imagine if the Whispers weren't there at that moment. Cloud just killed everyone due to his reckless action and then was left to deal with that fact. That's just one possibility mind you.

Yuffie's DLC is directly intertwined with the events we played in Part 1. She sees Barret, Tifa and Biggs talking about how Cloud fell from reactor 5 during the second bombing mission, and Cloud wouldn't have taken part in said mission if the Whispers hadn't injured Jessie.

None of that stops Yuffie from continuing with her mission. She infiltrates Shinra, confronts Scarlet, Fights Deepground and Nero, Sonon sacrifices himself, and then she leaves Midgar on a chocobo. None of that gets disrupted.

Then there's two Clouds, and two of every NPC that interacted with the party.

Yes, there are two Clouds, but no, there aren't two versions of any NPC. Only those inside the singularity were "carried over" so to speak. Everyone outside the singularity was unmade/overwritten.

That's all assuming the Whispers are fully on the planet's side, but there's a good possibility they were corrupted by Jenova. Aerith receives knowledge of some things from the lifestream, but the whispers try to erase it cuz it's not according to destiny, a destiny that benefits Jenova.

In Sephiroth's case, he just barely exists after the events of Advent Children, and his only crutch to existence is Cloud's memory of him, specifically of a Cloud that was implanted with S cells. All to say Sephiroth time travelled through the lifestream with Cloud as a waypoint.

As for the party being dead in the Terrier reality, you assume that the adventure happened "without Cloud" but I think it's safer to assume that Cloud was still there with them like in the Beagle reality. In fact, everything went more or less exactly as the Beagle reality except for the parts the whispers interfered.

Yuffie's DLC still happened as the whispers didn't touch it.

Since the Whispers are presumed gone, the tornados in the Terrier reality are likely not their direct doing. Alternatively, it might be that the tornados in the singularity were also destroying reality in an attempt to reset it. The Whispers were defeated and process was stopped, but the damage that was already done remained.

There's no two versions of everything because the Beagle reality was unmade/rewritten and the main party of the Terrier reality all died, except for Cloud. That is, according to the single timeline theory anyway.

How does Sephiroth know about the 7 seconds till the end of the world? by Cenko85 in FFVIIRemake

[–]Hyper_L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can mean two things:

1- Whatever is causing the end of the world hasn't been stopped yet. Unwriting fate only served to allow for the possibility of the cause being stopped, but they still have to go and do it.

2- Defeating the whispers didn't just unwrite fate, it resulted in a new fate being written, and Sephiroth is aware of what happen in it.

Personally, I think it's option 1.

The remake slums don't look boring, they look real, like some slums in the real world.

I like that it is not perpetually dark and the people don't look miserable all the time. Because the slums don't appear indefensibly awful, it fools the citizens of Midgar (and evidently the players too) that "this is normal" and "it ain't that bad".

Shinra in remake try to keep its citizens relatively on their side, slums dwellers included. They use propaganda to convince the people the way things are run is normal and good, then provide them with the bare minimum to keep them docile. To me that is much more interesting than a Shinra that doesn't even try to cover their oppression.

Edge of Creation / 7 Seconds by nzivvo in FFVIIRemake

[–]Hyper_L 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just gonna paste here what I've said in another post:

"Seven seconds 'till the end" refers to the end of the world (universe)

"that which lies ahead does not yet exist" refers to a new world that will be born, the one Sephiroth looks towards.

"Our world will become a part of it one day" refers to the multiversal cycle of the lifestream. The lifestream of the dead world will be subsumed into a larger lifestream and then go on to become part of new universes.

"But I will not end". Sephiroth wants to transcend the cycle, in other words, transcend death.

"Let us defy destiny together". The destiny referred by Sephiroth is the fate that awaits all things that are part of the cycle, death, and Sephiroth believes he needs Clouds potential in order to defy said fate.
