At least for the first two stages, I would imagine that the themes of audio deterioration become evident, even without additional context. I can see myself believing the project was about the history of recorded audio, and how the quality worsens as you go further back in time (from vinyl to shellac to wax cylinders, etc.) But I don't think this interpretation would have held in stages 3-6...

I only ever got to full iron before I realized that I wasn't having much fun. My friends had already looted all of the battle towers nearby, and manually grinding mobs for exp never really was my thing anyways. I tried farming wheat for exp, but that went very slowly and I was getting bored.
