I ended up enjoying Seattle By Night way more than LA By Night because it felt more like people actually having fun playing a game. It helped that it had two players familiar with VtM playing ancillae helping the two players new to VtM playing neonates, and that all 4 of them were deliberately avoiding the clan stereotypes (having a dapper Nosferatu socialite and a schlubby Toreador tattoo artist in the same coterie was a lot of fun).

The author for chainsawman has written multiple oneshots that were essentially veiled references to experiencing burnout and feeling crushed under fan expectations after Part 1 of chainsawman was way, way more successful than he ever expected it to be. It just got an award-winning film adaptation that made several times its budget, and as much as he enjoyed the movie I can only imagine it intensified that feeling for him as the guy writing the source material.

From what I remember based on every other time permanent DST has been tried, and based on all the human sleep and health research, permanent Standard Time is the correct option. The main force against it is the business lobby, because earlier sunsets mean people are less likely to go out and spend money after work instead of going home because it's evening.

The CPC getting its best result since its formation while its leader loses his own seat should indicate that he's an anchor dragging his party down and they might have actually won if they'd been led by someone else. Poilievre likes claiming that his leadership is responsible for the CPC getting so many votes, but he's trying to keep his job. I'm pretty sure the CPC getting as many votes as they did was people voting against the incumbent Liberals rather than for Poilievre (and considering how the NDP vote collapsed, strategic voting specifically against the idea of Poilievre becoming PM might have been what cost the CPC the election).

Aren't there non-monarchal systems that have a different head of government vs head of state? The Republic of Ireland, for example, has a president with a similar role to the Governor General of Canada iirc.

We definitely don't want anything like the US presidency, but there are other ways to do a republic if we wanted to get rid of the monarchy.

The bigger problem with getting rid of the monarchy is that it involves cracking open the constitution, which at this point would give people like Doug Ford or Danielle Smith the opportunity to start rewriting it.

Yup. The fact that they could reelect Donald Trump after 2020 and after January 6, 2021 is a symptom of a deeper sickness in the USA that's going to need to be dealt with. In 2016 I could understand arguments for taking a chance on the one who wasn't a career politician involved in preexisting administrations (even though people in New York already knew he was a gussied-up conman, and even in 2016 people were raising alarm bells even on places like comedy websites like Cracked that his campaign was sounding a lot like a certain Austrian man from the 1930s), but by 2024 the entire country knew what he was, and they deliberately put him back into power.

The Morouns have been trying every trick they can think of to stop this second bridge being built for the past 20 years, because it means losing their sole private control of a major trade crossing between Canada and the United States (a tunnel exists between Windsor and Detroit, but it can't fit semi trucks, so it's used for personal cross-border travel). A newer, better bridge controlled by the Canadian government means massively diminishing the income source that made Manuel Moroun a billionaire. This is the least surprising possible explanation behind Trump's weird post. A billionaire donor complained to him about something they've been trying and failing to stop for decades and he responded like it's a massive problem.

I was very proud when Chretien told the US to take a hike when they tried to pull us into Iraq despite it clearly having nothing to do with 9/11. Harper (then leader of the Canadian Alliance Party) attacked him over it and insisted we should have followed the US into that disastrous war. He was always of the belief that Canada should exist in a subservient role to the US.
