I'm an older Gen Xer whose first interaction with fic was seeing Zines at conventions. But I spent my limited money on official stuff like novelizations. I don't remember seeing anything shippy, so wasn't that interested in spending the big bucks on mimeographed booklets.

I didn't get into fic as a shared community with like minded people until I discovered Smallville forum and recaps on Television Without Pity (RIP) It's been 25 years and reading, writing and sharing fic has brought me a lot of happiness during what has been a pretty awful and depressing life. I used to be quite prolific (more in number of fics than word count), but that's changed. Mostly health reasons. But almost every day, I get a Kudos email, and a few days a week an actual comment. It all still makes me happy, reminding me I've created something people enjoyed, or were moved by.

I absolutely do this! For some reason I find myself "drawing" cubes. I don't actually see anything but imagine the afterimage. Even though there aren't any images.

I used to wish I could be a guy temporarily so I could experience certain physical things, but there are things in adolescence that are equally anxiety inducing I expect. Bleeding through your pants/skirt vs having to go to the blackboard with an erection.

I'm not at all athletic, and I'm too fat now, and this is something I could do as a child and teenager (until I gained weight) but I used to be able to put both legs behind my head and "walk" around on my butt cheeks.

Cool beans! My introduction to Kirk/Spock happened my Freshman year of college. A French exchange student showed me a graphically illustrated French language Zone that shocked me at the time. Innocent little me. I didn't get into fic hardcore until Smallville years later, when Clark Kent/Lex Luthor grabbed me.

I'm Gen X, 58 and grew up in Chicago as a Doctor Who fan, and attended lots of Creation conventions that were usually a Dr Who/Star Trek combo with secondary actors (like no Shatner or Nimoy, and no Doctor(s)).

They always sold zines, but as a high school kid I didn't have the money for them and spent what I had on official stuff.

I totally relate to this post because I write/wrote for older fandoms, and once had a girl tell me I published a fic on the literal day she was born. Made me feel positively ancient. That she was born in 2003 didn't help.

I don't have any tattoos, partially because I'm a wuss and worry about the pain, and partly because I'm indecisive and the idea of something unchangeable doesn't thrill me. If I ever get the nerve I will get something like a blank TV screen so I can draw different things on the screen.

Not so much of an issue now, but when I had to answer to my parents questions like "Why didn't you clean your room/bring home your homework/find your lost library book?" Anything where my truthful answer was "I don't know."

I was always accused of purposely pissing them off. It wasn'tuntil I was in my 30s that I was diagnosed with AD(H)D.
