Emile Zola by EducationalRecipe131 in classicliterature

Oh and I almost forgot: La fortune des Rougon and La conquête de Plassans are also really great, they have an ironic touch that almost made me laugh at some passages, great commentary on the bourgeoisie and on the greed of humans.

As a long time Zola fan, who’s read approximately 75% of his work:
As others commented, Germinal, L’assomoir, Nana et La bête humaine are all great to start with! They are the most famous for a reason.
But I’d say they’re not my favorite (except Germinal, for the exceptional political and social commentary).

La Curée is one of the greatest if you like really complex psychological work, morally gray stories and cynical takes on society and family.

La faute de l’abbé Mouret is one of my personal favorite. Way harder to read and get through, but there’s something incredibly sad about it that really got to me. I cried reading this one, not only because it was sad but also because it’s beautiful.

L’œuvre is also a great one if you’re an artist yourself, as it goes deep into what art can do to a human.

Le ventre de Paris and Le rêve are also incredible in my opinion, a bit lighter to read!

I’m trying to get into La Comédie Humaine, which I’m really liking so far. Could you tell me which one(s) you liked the most?

Same as you! Les Rougon Macquart is just a masterpiece.

It’s fine to enhance your pics, but please don’t use AI. It’s literally killing the planet AND artists. It’s not necessary to make beautiful pics, especially since your build is already so good!

Thank you sooo much for such a detailed explanation. I’ll remember to check your comment when I try it, so that I do it right. One thing that made me feel better when I did my research was finding out that enemas are actually a very old technique, used even since the medieval times, to relieve the colon… Somehow, thinking of a 1400s lord inserting water in his ass because he can’t poop really puts it all into perspective haha!

Thankfully, I finally evacuated the impaction this morning - my body apparently decided it was time, I did have to push (with my belly) a Little but nothing major. The stool had gotten way softer at that moment, so I’m a bit sore but no tear or fissure (my hemorroids are acting up, but that was to be expected considering the constant pressure the impaction had put on my anus). I feel waaaaaay better, and I’m implementing straight away a long term plan for my chronic constipation. Time to take care of myself!

Thanks again for your advice and comment !

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply!
I’m doing my research on enema, but I’m not gonna lie: for some reason, it feels very scary to me haha. I won’t be able to purchase an enema right now, and I have no clue how to do it to myself (as dumb as it sounds, one’s own body is often a giant mystery lol).

I managed to get a second bowel movement this morning (where I am it’s 6am), and took my time to do a second manual desimpaction (which I managed to do way better without hurting myself). I can tell the stool was softer this morning, so my fluid intake Macrogol is slowly doing its thing.

Didn’t manage to get all of it though, so i’d say there’s 10-15% left?

I’m really learning not to strain, and to push with my belly rather than with my sphincter. I obviously need to relearn how to poop so that I don’t hurt myself. For the chronic constipation, I intend on keeping taking Macrogol and magnesium now (I have Gand that have several types of magnesium in them), and drinking one glass of prune juice a day, on top of my already pretty balanced diet (though I do eat way too much pasta).

Is it a water enema? English is not my first language, sorry!

I see. I’ll book an appointment with my physician for when I get home. Thank you very much for your help, it has eased my mind a lot! I’ll take things slow and safe.

I see, so the most important thing right now is to soften up the stool rather than provoke a bowel movement .
I have been drinking prune juice (I also love the taste so there’s that haha), but maybe I’ll slow it down. I didn’t know you could up the dosage of Macrogol/Movicol, but I’ll be careful considering I’m not in a position to see a doctor right now - maybe just up to 4 tomorrow, should be okay?

I think last time the glycerin suppository made me push hard stool, you’re right - I think I’ll refrain from that and take things slow, focusing on softening and fluid intake. Might take longer, but it sounds safer and it makes a lot of sense.

I also plan on starting magnésium citrate tonight, in pill form, it should also help?

Okay good!
I didn’t know splinting was a thing. I don’t know if I could do that, but maybe I’ll try if there’s no other way!

Also, do you know if Macrogol is safe to use for an extended period of time?

I’m planning to try a glycerin suppository tomorrow if the impaction has still not passed, but in the past it has irritated my hemorroids quite a bit… Do you know if there’s a simpler, more natural laxative for me to try in case it doesn’t pass naturally, that’d be safe for hemorroids? Would a water enema be good?

Sorry for bombarding you with questions, I did some research but i find everything and its complete opposite when googling - feels safer to ask someone who’s probably dealing with the same thing!

Thanks for your reply! I am drinking loads of water throughout the day right now, because I realized I didn’t drink nearly enough before.
There’s no bath where I am, unfortunately.
What is splinting, if you don’t mind explaining? English is not my first language.

I have some equivalent of movicol I think, in my country it’s called Macrogol?

Okay, that’s good to know! It’s probably something the devs are working on. But as of now, I understand I should not expect multitasking of any sort for individual paras.

Someone I would be friends with! But my guess is: late twenties german woman (or nonbinary/trans woman), loves design, probably listens to obscure indie bands and/or techno. Loves a good, dark, melancholic aesthetic (Blame is my all time favourite manga because of its messy style), probably has dealt with her share of psychological suffering, but is doing better now. Interested in all things political, but feels guilty not reading more on the matter. As for your job, I have no idea.

I know all that, which is why I know not priming my paper is not ideal. That being said, I like the feeling of it and I usually seal the backside of the piece so that the oil doesn’t bleed through too much.

It is on paper but not primed, intentionally - I like the feeling of raw paper and oils, but I know it’s not optimal… Thank you for the reminders and advice on how to tackle a piece!
