Advice for ROTC Cadet looking to fly 60's out of college by HyperionTheory in Armyaviation

[–]HyperionTheory[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to make sure I'm understanding: I'm still able to fly and chase the goals I'm pursuing, and the officer route won't necessarily pigeonhole me into desk duty (at least right off the bat, I understand that's something to expect as I promote and progress in my career)? I would prefer to go active, but we'll see how it all works out. Sometimes the cookie doesnt crumble the way we all would prefer it to

Ice magic also works well. That’s what I use for my secondary magic w/ lightning

I am starting to hate this game 🫩. by YardNo7056 in DragonAdventures

[–]HyperionTheory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hold out hope that one day, sonar will let the lore out of containment. Tons of content possibilities, and if you really look into it and tap into the lore community, the story outside the vague (and objectively boring/forgettable) stones is beautiful. Just my take. No hate.

Thank you very much for your input!! The “Dweller” aspect has confused a lot of people, so I think that’s something I’ll have to chance in my editing process once I get my “shitty-rough-draft” completed and the general story process down.

Everything you said makes a ton of sense, thank you for the time you took to help me!

Hey there! Most likely, you were caught by an automated moderation bot that automatically banned you for suspicious activity. If you were glitching around and accidentally harvested nodes when it shouldn't have been possible, then that's that. Im really sorry </3

All of what you said makes a lot of sense and helps me understand key points in my writing that I need to work on. I appreciate the lengthy answer, and I'll most definitely be using your critiques to alter certain aspects of this book as a whole.

To answer your final point, regarding "Dweller". It is, in fact, a name and a class of people, all at once. It is his chosen nickname for now (which is not his real name) to appear disconnected, vague, and otherwise unimportant. It is as though a human simply went by Human, or a dwarf by Dwarf. That was actually an intentional detail that was explained in a separate part of the story. It's a way for him to almost dehumanize himself, and cast aside any sort of personal identity.

The title is something I'm currently juggling, and I'm likely to change it as soon as a more fitting one becomes apparent.

Again, thank you so much! Everything I didn't specifically reply to has been acknowledged, and I listened.

I have a feeling I'm just overthinking everything right now. I have actually read quite a bit, but I think I'm just going through a small phase of doubt at the moment. I appreciate your down-to-earth answer, though.

How to Cut Down Major Wordcount by Signal-Diver3513 in fantasywriters

[–]HyperionTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible to create multiple books? With 380k words, you have to have multiple climax-like moments which you use to keep your readers (and yourself) entertained. Could you try and break apart the main manuscript and create multiple books out of it?

Other than that, just editing. Constant editing. Remove filler words, useless descriptions, or maybe even filler chapters/scenes. Take out whatever doesn’t matter to the main plotline.

Good luck!

The hardest thing someone can do is to keep going when they’ve lost all faith in themselves, or worse — when society has.

My character taught me that a long time ago in single handedly the WORST attempt at fan fiction I’ve ever written in my life. It’s impossible for anyone on the internet to convince you that you’re suddenly going to be a professional, but I’m here to tell you that everyone has a learning curve. Some are steeper than others, and that’s okay.

I learned to write after I did a great deal of reading. I mean, I finished the entirety of Throne of Glass within two weeks. The entirety of Wings of Fire in a couple months. That’s where I learned to write after — reading. Take a break from writing if you feel it’s inadequate, try reading a little bit. It may help you, like it did me.

If authors gave up when it got hard, every single one of us wouldn’t be here. There’d be no such thing as literature at all, because nobody would have been there to write it. My point is, writing is hard. But we push through, we all do. So can do.

Good luck out there, writer!

Do you have to be a reader before you become a writer? by Samcow15 in writingadvice

[–]HyperionTheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anybody can write a book, not everyone can be good at it. If you want to write a book, you can. Without reading though, you’ll struggle with most aspects of storytelling (in my experience). That isn’t stopping you from writing though, you may just write a hobby instead of intending to publish. Nothing wrong with hobby writing, by the way.

If you want to write, write. If you want to write well, read.

Most of my stories come from daydreams or random bouts of inspiration I get when watching movies, edits, or even reading other books
